As you probably realized, I’m a creature of habit, and of drastic changes and there is no middle ground. My runs/walks and workouts are going well, but lately, another form of exercise has come to my attention. Wall Pilates.
I started seeing a lot of ads for Wall Pilates on TiKTok and Instagram, and it looked interesting. I have zero access to pilates here, although I hear great things about it. In addition, I really miss yoga, but it hasn’t been fitting in with my schedule. As always, I dug a little deeper into those ads, but the two companies I came across offer apps with monthly subscriptions, and I didn’t want to pay when I already have a gym membership. Some googling brought me to Rachel’s Fit Pilates on YouTube, and away we go.
What Caught My Eye?
I like the idea of workouts that are quick and efficient. It’s also nice to have something that works parts of my body I don’t use during running and my regular strength sessions. If it’s low impact, too, even better. For the last few weeks, I’ve really wanted to focus more on my glutes and flexibility, so this seemed to fit the bill. Finally, I was drawn to the fact that there is minimal equipment and no reformer. I have resistance bands and light weights at home. And if I need to do some of this at the gym, they have ankle weights I can use. Perfect.
How Does It Feel?
So far, so good. I am really excited to be getting back my wall sit, which will lead to more competence with squats and lunges. And even though the moves are small and the weights are light, I feel like eI”m hitting things the gym is missing. Plus, each workout is less than 20 minutes, so I’m finished almost as soon as I’ve started.
What Do I Hope To Accomplish?
As always, I want to be stronger. The weights I lift at the gym are good, but sometimes I feel stuck or plateaued. I also want to be more flexible. Pilates bridges a nice gap between yoga and strength training, and I like the idea of getting some more range of motion while building muscles.
How Is It Going?
We are on Day 4 and it’s good. Really good. Yes, I’m sore, but in all the best ways. The YouTube series is easy to follow, offers modifications, and make it simple to get the workout in. I’m going to keep it up for 28 days, because you know I love a challenge, and then see where I’m at.
Have you tried regular pilates, or wall pilates? Do you ever get curious about the fitness apps advertised on social media?

I haven’t tried any kind of pilates, but I do yoga regularly! I have done yoga against the wall and I would be curious to know if wall pilates is similar. Regardless, it will be a good workout for you!
runswithpugs says
I think it’s similar but the pilates pulls in weights and resistance bands. So the same stretching, but maybe a little more strength.
Darlene S Cardillo says
Like Wendy have not tried pilates.
I sometimes feel like a slacker because I barely fit in work and running. If I can I want to use the machines at the gym more… as you’ve mentioned, they don’t challenge me…(they could if I had mojo and time)
Glad to hear this is working for you.
runswithpugs says
You are not a slacker at all! You just have a different schedule and fit in different things.
Catrina says
Yes, I have gone to Pilates classes and I have enjoyed them a lot! Which reminds me that I really should try one of those classes again.
Do you have the link to the online class that you used?

Yes! Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xUTajb241g&list=PL6F8elYp4eOFCIMT4EzJbWX8llDIRqtyq! And I updated the post. I don’t know how I forgot!

Funny I got a free trial for a wall Pilates app and tried a few workouts. I really liked them as well. Just tying to figure out how to add it into my crowded workout schedule!
runswithpugs says
That’s the problem, isn’t it!
Zenaida Arroyo says
My podiatrist told me to do pilates. I am being lazy since I could do the ones on the Peloton app.
runswithpugs says
I kind of like it.

“Pilates has truly revolutionized the way I approach fitness! I love how it combines strength, flexibility, and mindfulness all in one workout. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced fitness enthusiast, Pilates offers a low-impact yet highly effective way to improve posture, core strength, and overall body awareness. It’s not just about physical results; it also helps to clear your mind and reduce stress. Highly recommend giving it a try if you’re looking to elevate your fitness routine!”
