Even though I live in Florida, fall running absolutely has my heart. While we don’t have the same autumn as much of the country, it’s still (slightly) fall, and I love every second of it. Fall running is a delightful relief after the oppressive heat of summer. Here are some of the things I love most.
Dear Fall Running, I Love Your Cooler Temps
After months of 80F and 100% humidity with sun, fall brings cool mornings. In some cases, it’s even almost cold. Check out the long sleeve shirts I get to wear, at least until I’ve warmed up a little. Colder-weather running makes it easier to breathe, and no one is sweating nearly as much. It’s just so much more pleasant all the way around.
Dear Fall Running, I Love Your Darker Mornings
I may be alone, but I prefer getting the bulk of my running done before the sun comes up. The sunrise is a beautiful cherry on top of my morning workout, but the heat it brings is so unwelcome. I feel much more accomplished when I log my miles in the dark and dawn, so until Daylight Savings Time, I very much cherish the darker days.
Dear Fall Running, You Bring Fun Sights To See!
With fall running comes fun things to see during those miles. So many people start decorating for the holidays, starting with Halloween, which means lots of super cool displays. I think we can all agree that having interesting things to look at helps the miles pass a little more quickly, or encourages us to step outside of our usual routes. I’m all in for it! And who doesn’t love a fun photo opportunity?
Dear Fall Running, You Have The Best Races!
In Florida, the cool races start ramping up through fall and winter. For us, summer is more for 5Ks and fun runs because of the oppressive and sometimes dangerous conditions. By the time October hits, we are so ready for some longer distances and cooler themes. Look for breast cancer runs, Halloween events, turkey trots, and all the festive jingle jogs your area has to offer!

I love our colors but not the dark mornings and the frost.
Though the cooler temps have helped with those long runs.
I love fall foods – cider donuts, pumpkin everything, apple pies.
