And here we are, ready for our October runfessions! I love getting to bare my soul (and my soles) to readers and friends. It’s a great way to cleanse everything from the month and be ready to face the next one fresh!
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
That I did not run in the mountains. Nope. Not one step. I did a lot of walking and got in all of steps and miles, but I didn’t even pack my running shoes. Why not? I’d love to tell you. This guy. We stayed in a cabin where there are a lot of bears roaming about. Now, I love bears, but I don’t think I’d want to encounter one while out and about.
Next, I’ll Runfess…
That I splurged. I usually purchase older running shoes on sale, because I know that I like them and I enjoy the discount, but when the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24 came up for presale, I couldn’t say no. Look at that color! My last few pairs have been more pastel and muted, and I needed something bright to carry me through the end of the year. They are about to ship and I can’t wait to get my grabby hands on them.
My Next Runfession Is…
That I am struggling a little bit with my “comeback” from the summer heat, but it’s going ok. I’m starting to get closer to running seven miles at a time, and that makes me super happy.
I Runfess…
That I am really working on my patience at the gym. Our Y brought in the EGYM system. It’s a circuit of weight machines that users can access via a wristband. They are designed to be used as a circuit, starting with the first, and working through to the last, and then looping around as many times as desired. When you scan into each machine, it automatically adjusts for your body and strength, and it offers a decent full body workout. Each circuit takes about 20 minutes, which takes into account scanning in, 20 reps, flashing your results, and moving to the next machine. I like it on empty days, but there are days when people just hop in wherever and do multiple sets on one machine, rather than one and moving on, as they are supposed to. It’s rude. The machines are also awkward, and we have a lot of older people at the gym. They are sometimes unable to move between machines in the allotted time. I get super frustrated when I just want to get in and out, so I am trying to remember that it’s important that people of all abilities are getting in the gym and working out.
Finally, I Would Runfess…
That I am trying to cram in all the Halloween fun in these last few days of the month. Despite my best intentions, October got away from me. And now our last ten days are full of travel and obligations. I think we are going to manage a big day on Sunday, with some pumpkin carving and a snack board, and I still don’t know what we will do on Halloween itself. Hopefully something fun!
Well, that’s it for me! What would you runfess?

My trainer moved to a gym with a lot of older equipment (in good shape but old school) and I like it. Some of the new “e” gym stuff is just annoying!
Our October was insanely busy. I’m looking forward to the NYC Marathon and then some well needed rest!

You have been running everywhere! The rest will be good for you! You’ve been running all over!
Darlene Cardillo says
I would not run if there were bears.
I don’t care if I walk. I sometimes run just for one minute and then I walk. Sometimes less. I still get all the miles in without stress or injury.
I can’t believe it’s Halloween this week. The time just flew by.
runswithpugs says
It really did fly by.
You know I am all about walking.
Jenny says
Do you have the option to use different equipment if you wanted to? I think that system would annoy me!
Supposedly black bears aren’t really dangerous to people (not like grizzly bears) but I think I would also like to avoid them. And, yes- October went SO fast! This is my favorite time of year- why does it have to speed by like this???
runswithpugs says
Oh, absolutely. But sometimes, I just like hopping on the circuit for a full body workout.
Supposedly = famous last words. I think the bear would be fine, especially so close to hibernation time, but I wasn’t taking chances.
Coco says
Good call on staying safe from the bears!
I would be really frustrated by that gym equipment and people (mis)using it. . Is that the only option?
runswithpugs says
No. We still have the regular machines and all the free weights and other weight machines. And cardio stuff. But it’s a nice, mindless way to do a workout, and sometimes, it’s nice to just go through the circuit. Until it’s not.

I am also struggling to come back from the summer heat with running. We will get there! Good call on the bear situation 🙂 Looks like a lot of fun Halloween activity this week. Have fun!
runswithpugs says
I hated not being able to run in the beautiful foliage. But safety first, or something like that.
Marcia says
I think sometime the “high tech” gym ideas just don’t work as well as planned. Sounds great in theory but one can’t go wrong with keeping it simple, IMO. OMG the bear!!!
runswithpugs says
LOL I really wanted to meet that bear.
