Welcome to the first Ultimate Coffee Date of January, where I want to discuss the idea of creating community. Since 2020, I feel like I’ve lost so many of the people who helped me get through every day, and I want to do something about that.
After reading here, head on over to visit Coco and Deborah, our awesome link-up hosts.
Time to get our coffee on.
Over Coffee, I Would Tell You…
That the Breakfast Club got back together. Over frittatas, cinnamon rolls, and homemade pop tarts, we talked about the reasons why we haven’t seen each other in almost a year, and committed to connecting frequently and often.
I Would Also Share…
That we had a wonderful time reconnecting with some friends we haven’t seen in ages. Life gets in the way sometimes, and spending a few hours with these lovely people affirmed how important it is to strengthen relationships. Sometimes, as an introvert, it’s easy to let these things go, but I was quickly reminded that it is my loss to do so.
With Coffee In Hand, I Would Tell You…
That I am incredibly excited to host a vision board party next week. As I work on building community, I want to create spaces where my friends feel comfortable creating and sharing. This month, we will make vision boards, and next month, we will have a little Galentine’s event. Over time, we can add more people, but for right now, these little gathering will be wonderful for our souls.
If We Were Having Coffee, I Would Share…
I am so grateful to O and the book club community who welcomed me in. Thanks to them, I am so much more motivated to read and am excited to work on my TBR stack for 2025. I am just about finished with our January selection, and it’s such a great feeling.
My Final Coffee Thought Is…
Do you want to check out my favorite coffee of the season? There is a little coffee shop near us that offers the most incredible flavors. The best part is that you can get two flavors in one cup! I’ll be visiting Maracuya again before the season ends, and I can’t wait to mix and match more options!
What would you share with me over coffee? How do you build community?

Such great groups that you are a part of.
I don’t play tennis but my friends and I do dinners once a month. I do brunch with my running friends every Sat. I zoom with some college friends.
Otherwise I try to keep in touch with friends. FB helps a lot.

I love all that! It’s so important to have a village.
Deborah Brooks says
It is always fun to reconnect with old friends. I’ve never done a vision board-can’t wait to see what yours looks like
runswithpugs says
I can’t wait to see how it looks too!
Coco says
I wish I lived near you and could join you in your fun activities! You do so much and are so good at supporting the community!

I would love that. I am always so nervous putting myself out there, and that makes it hard. But I think we are all really going to need each other in the upcoming months/years, and so I want to try to do my part.

Honestly, I feel like I have no IRL community. You really have to work at it, and I haven’t been doing that. Also an introvert, it’s always appealing to me to just stay home and read a book. Maybe you’ll inspire me- I love all your ideas. And that coffee place looks amazing! Why don’t more places do that???
Marcia says
You’re doing such a great job of building community, Jenn! I need to take a page from your book and do the same as I am guilty as charged on neglecting this aspect of life for too long. Love the idea of getting to have 2 coffees in one! Yay!
Michelle says
Bravo Jenn! I love all of the ways you are working to build community. I’ve really let this slide especially in the past year. Like Coco said, I wish I lived closer to join you in all the fun!
Debbie says
Getting groups of friends back together sounds like so much fun! We have recently gotten our group of grad school friends back together and will be spending a week with them in Logan, Utah in late June right next to the USU campus.
Homemade poptarts? How fun!

Breakfast Club? Yum. We have something like that at work. Teachers sign up on payday Friday to bring breakfast for the club members. Then you get to enjoy a yummy breakfast on those days. It is one of my favorite days and I make sure I am not absent that day. 🙂
I wish I had a local coffee shop nearby. When my nephew was in town in November, we went to a couple on the way to see my mom in the hospital. I had seen the shops but never stopped to buy a coffee. I was missing out! Yemeni coffee is delicious!
runswithpugs says
Oooh. I’ve never had Yemeni coffee. That sounds great!

Ah, I’m with you on that! I love the idea of a vision board party too — I’m going to be doing crafting/hobby days with friends so we can catch up on life while working on things we’ve been meaning to try/learn. :]
Yay for book clubs too! I joined one a couple years ago and now I’m the one running it, hehe. It’s done wonders in getting me back into reading!

I am so excited to be linking up on your monthly book post! I am really trying to improve my reading time!
I love the idea of crafting and hobby days.
