When the month of June rolls around, most runners in the South start looking for excuses to scale back. The humidity spikes to 100 percent, the air is like warm soup, and the asphalt is lava. So, naturally, what did I do? I hopped back into the #StreakingWithTheCoolKids Challenge, committing to running or walking at least one continuous, uninterrupted mile every single day in June.

Now that the challenge is officially wrapped up and my streak is in the books (I’m actually on day 937 of streaking) I have some thoughts.
A daily streak is a fascinating mental experiment. It forces you to completely redefine your relationship with your running shoes and your daily schedule. Like any good training cycle, it came with some massive victories and a few highly unglamorous realities. If you’ve ever considered taking on a daily movement streak during the peak of summer, here is my completely honest breakdown of the pros and the cons.
The Pros: What I Gained From #StreakingWithTheCoolKids
- Rock-Solid Consistency: There is no “I’ll just do it tomorrow” when you’re on a streak. By removing the daily negotiation of whether I was going to run or walk, it simply became part of my routine, like brushing my teeth. That forced structure maintained a level of consistency that’s been hard to find during this particularly brutal heat wave.
- The Ultimate Motivation Booster: When the alarm goes off at 5:00 AM and the humidity is already crushing, internal motivation fades fast. But the external accountability of keeping that streak alive is powerful. Knowing I just had to lace up for one mile got me out the door on days I absolutely would have stayed in bed.
- Doing Something Intentionally For Myself: My daily schedule is pretty tightly organized, with family, business, and deadlines. Dedicating that uninterrupted mile to myself every single day is a vital form of daily self-care. It was my time to unplug, tune into my body, and focus entirely on myself and my own momentum.
The Cons: The Unglamorous Realities Of A Summer Streak
- An Absolute Mountain of Laundry: Let’s talk about the logistics. Running or walking every single day in the summer means you are generating a minimum of seven fully saturated sets of workout gear a week. My washing machine has never worked harder. I felt like I was constantly washing, drying, and folding tech tanks and running socks just to keep up with the daily demand.
- The Logistical Puzzle of “Fitting It In”: A mile doesn’t sound like a long time until your schedule completely explodes. Clients need early attention, videos need to get recorded, road trips need to get moving. There were days I had to get incredibly creative just to find a safe, well-lit path before the sun came up.
The Final Verdict
Would I do it again? Absolutely. In fact, as I mentioned, I’m working towards 1,000 days of streaking as I write this. While the laundry was infinite and my time management got put to the test, what the challenge unlocked for my mindset was entirely worth it. It proved to me that no matter how busy life gets, or how thick the summer air feel, I can always find the time to show up for myself.

Did you participate in the #StreakingWithTheCoolKids challenge this year? What was your biggest pro or your most annoying con? Will you continue to streak?
