Unprecedented heat waves. Floods. Wildfires. The madness continues, and we are only halfway through July. On the plus side, I have a whole week and a half off! Is that an amazing feeling? You know it! But the sun keeps rising and setting and we keep on moving. So let’s dive in.

Sunday
- Cardio: 5.89 miles, walking
- Strength: resistance bands, 20 minutes
Today was my last day with a client, which then opened up my time off! Of course, I started the day with a nice walk, and got to see this gorgeous hawk hanging out on my fence.

And then I just worked around the house until Mr. PugRunner got home. I trimmed weeds and bushes along the fenceline and did all the laundry. Mr PugRunner got in around dinner time, from his “mancation” on a houseboat on the springs. Super fun for him, and he had a blast.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.32 miles, running
Up and at ’em!

A little drama this week. Luna has been vomiting after breakfast a few times, and so we took her to the vet. The diagnosis after xrays, bloodwork and a urinalysis? She’s a pug who’s being pretty picky. We stopped giving her allergy meds over the weekend just to see if maybe those are upsetting her tummy. If so, they will likely change her meds or add in some pepcid.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.04 miles, running
Another busy day! I beat the heat with a nice morning run.

I took A to his last dentist appointment with his current provider (now that his orthodontic treatment is finished, he doesn’t need to stay at the pediatric dentist), and then we went shopping for his apartment. He’s been gathering things here and there, but he needed bedding, a shower curtain, and some other things. We had lunch together and honestly had such a wonderful day. IKEA about did us in, but we accomplished our mission!

Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.49 miles, walking
Wednesdays are for walking. Yay. I love running but it’s nice to get a break from time to time.

Honestly, it was just a chill day. And that was needed. I almost don’t know what to do with my extra time. Almost.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.75 miles, running
And back at it. It seems like the week is getting even warmer, which is pretty rough. It’s also making me pretty tired midday. We aren’t getting tons of rain, but the stormclouds do roll through to make things pretty dark and dreary. That’s the story of summer here.

Friday
- Cardio: 5.91 miles, running + walking
TGIF! Of course, the morning started with a run that quickly devolved into a walk. When it’s almost 80F before the sun comes up, you just do what you can.

I was pretty productive through the day, and then Mr PugRunner and I went for dinner and drinks at The Block. It’s a “park” and community space built out of shipping containers, with a stage, seating, bars and dining options, as well as a kids’s park and dog park. There was even live music but we didn’t make it that late.

Saturday
- Cardio: 4.72 miles, walking
I slept in just a little bit. Getting enough sleep and beating the heat is a dangerous balance.

And then it was a house day. Literally, all I did was be at home. Yes, there was laundry and social media work, but there was also tv, and petting the pugs and homemade pizza for dinner. Yay!
Thoughts + Goals
These next few weeks are going to fly and I’m bracing for impact. We are as prepared and ready as we can be, and I hope that makes the transition go more smoothly.
Other positives are that we have our travel calendar shaping up. Some are big trips, some are smaller, but all are fun and I’m looking forward to it. I’m a planning kind of person, so it’s exciting to have things to look forward to.
What I DO need to start planning is my next local race! I can’t believe it’s been months, but I’m really starting to get that itch and it’s time to get something on the books!
