No, The season isn’t fall. It’s the open nest. And we’ve got about a month until things shift dramatically around here. Time surely does march on, doesn’t it? Since I have no control over that, let’s talk about what I do have in my power. Running.

Sunday
- Cardio: 3.4 miles, walking
The day after the 4th of July was gross. In addition to dangerous heat, the smell of fireworks hung in the air. Everything was thick and smoky, and brutal. I did the best I could, but that’s all I had in me.

Monday
- Cardio: 4.5 miles, running
Really, the only thing positive about this run was the scenery. You can tell that I am so very over it.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.93 miles, running
Ok, this felt more like a substantial run. I definitely felt stronger and more empowered. Yay.

The big news today was that we got A’s actual new address and apartment number! He has all his requested roommates and they are all pretty happy with how things are progressing!
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4 miles, walking
I was super happy to be down to “just” a walk. The air quality has been garbage, and of course, it’s because of the incoming Saharan Dust Plume. Does it mean we have better sunsets and sunrises? Sure. But it’s hard to breathe and it also keeps the rain away. We need more precipitation, not less!

Every day is truly a fresh hell.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.34 miles, running
I was going down fast. The weather has been making me feel awful (like really severe allergies) and so very tired. I did have enough energy for a slow run, so I took it.

Friday
- Cardio: 4.93 miles, running
The fact that I didn’t push to make it five miles should make it clear just how done with this heat I am. I did what I could do.

Mr PugRunner was heading off on a little adventure of his own for the weekend, so I locked in with A, the pugs, and my clients. I did a little cleaning and organizing. Good times.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.67 miles, walking
I didn’t sleep well, and woke up a little too late to get in the miles I wanted. Oh, well.

I picked up bagels and coffee for myself and the kids, and then gave the pugs a bath. While I was a mess, I also hacked down some overgrowth in the backyard. I want to put in a hydrangea garden and a small pollinator garden at some point, and there are some unwelcome bush things in my way.
Thoughts + Goals
Friends, I’ve been booked and busy.
I’m doing a lot of fun partnerships right now, and I can’t wait to showcase some upcoming brands.
Have fall on your mind? Check out Gourdy’s Pumpkin Run? This isn’t local to me, so I’m taking on the virtual challenge. They have great swag and gorgeous medals! I don’t know about you, but any hint of fall on the horizon is a relief!

In other exciting news, some friends and I registered for puppy yoga next month! And I’ve got a super fun trip coming up sooo soon!

YES! I mean we won’t get a break in the heat till October (maybe… if we’re lucky…) but I’m loving the little hints of fall (lol only Floridians are feeling this way- everyone up north is yelling at us that there’s plenty left of summer). You did well considering everything! I don’t have allergies, and I can’t even imagine how much worse that makes everything this time of year.
Oof, the “open nest.” I like that- you’re combining “empty nest” with Gretchen Rubin’s reframing of “open door.” The nest (door) really is open, and he’ll be coming back home PLENTY. But it’s a huge transition, I know. I will be here for you! I lived through it with my son, and I have part 2 coming up next year when my daughter leaves. Sob.
Can’t wait to hear about puppy yoga!
Glad A has his apartment set and the roommate he wanted — that must be a relief.
Ugh on the weather and the fireworks smoke — that sounds like adding insult to injury.
Puppy yoga sounds adorable!
Sounds like things are shaping up quite well for A with the apartment situation! I’m sure you are in the college shopping mode now. What fun! I know it’s a big change, but I feel like you will be well equipped for this next chapter of life. It does make a mama proud seeing how well their kids can handle life on their own!
I get it – some days .93 is good enough. I’m there with you!!
Puppy yoga sounds fun! Enjoy!
The weather has been quite challenging for sure.and not so nice. The transition to empty nest is a rough one at first. It’s a big change for all of you. Hugs xoxo
