The Blueprint for Epic Universe: How to Plan Your Visit

July 15, 2026      Leave a Comment

The theme park landscape is shifting, and a trip to Universal’s newest destination, Epic Universe, requires a completely different strategy than your standard park day. Planning a visit to a brand-new, massive layout means you cannot simply wing it and hope for the best. The crowds will be dense, the demand will be high, and the logistics can quickly get overwhelming if you don’t have a solid framework before you pass through the turnstiles.

To get the absolute most value out of your ticket, you need to think about your day in distinct phases. Breaking the experience down into manageable priorities ensures you see the headliner attractions, taste the best food, and actually enjoy the atmosphere instead of spending your entire vacation waiting in line.

If you’re currently mapping out your upcoming trip, here is the essential structural framework to help you navigate the park like a absolute pro.

Our Epic Strategy (Or Lack Thereof)

Remember how I just wrote that you need to go in with a plan? Well, we did not. I’m typically an overplanner, but I got overwhelmed with all the details, and tried to focus on a few things that were super important to our family. We all wanted to see The Isle of Berk, I needed to meet Toothless, and A and his girlfriend wanted to dive into Super Nintendo World. For dining options, A had his heart set on the macaroni and cheese cones, and the rest we left to chance. Was this the best scenario? Probably not! This isn’t a huge park, but there aren’t a ton of rides, there isn’t a lot of shade, and I think we could have been more efficient in our movements. However, we had a blast, and I didn’t have a lot of preconceived ideas about the rides, which ended up as a huge positive.

The Express Pass: Is The Upgrade Worth It?

In case you didn’t know, Universal Parks offer an Express Pass in addition to your regular park ticket. For Epic Universe, this is NOT included as a benefit to staying at their Signature Collection Hotels (although hotel guests do get early access to the park with their room keys, so don’t sleep on that!). The Express Pass for Epic allows you to enjoy shorter lines on participating attractions on the day of your visit by entering the Express queue (instead of the regular line). Dragon Rally Racers is the only Epic ride excluded from this Pass. While the Express Pass can cost more than the actual admission ticket depending on the day (they are priced on a sliding scale), it was very worth it to us. We took advantage of our extra hour as hotel guests, and then proceeded to ride every single attraction over the course of a very long day.

Navigating The Lands: Mapping Your Must-See Attractions

Epic Universe is set up as a main hub, called Celestial Park, with portals leading to different, immersive lands:

  • Isle of Berk: the Viking village from How To Train Your Dragon, brought to life.
  • Super Nintendo World: An extremely detailed mashup of your favorite Nintendo properties
  • Dark Universe: a world of classic movie monsters
  • The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter – Ministry Of Magic: Paris, Harry Potter style.

Each land is completely closed off from each other, and all of them are stunning in design and presentation. There are fabulous rides, character meet and greets, photos ops, and themed dining in all of them, and live shows in Ministry Of Magic and Berk. Everyone’s interests will vary, so it’s important to head to the land that matters most first. For us, that was the Isle of Berk. We arrived incredibly early, rode Hiccup’s Wing Gliders three times and Dragon Rally Racers once, and then waited about an hour to meet Hiccup and Toothless. A and his girlfriend used that time to check out Super Nintendo World, and then we joined up and started ticking off the other attractions.

Beyond The Standard Theme Park Food: Dining Strategies

Originally, we thought we would grab lunch in the park, and be back at the hotel for dinner. A had already made it super clear that he wanted the macaroni and cheese cones (absolutely delicious) at Spit Fyre Grill & Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel, so that was the plan. However, as we started hopping on queues and the day wore on, we realized we were committed for the long haul. I made a dinner reservation at Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant in Celestial Park (one of two table service restaurants) and we beat the heat with ice cream at Frosty Moon and Frozen Butterbeer from Bar Moonshine. While prices are standard for theme parks, we felt the quality was excellent, and the offerings unique and creative. While I’m sure you could grab burgers, tenders, and fries, there were plenty of other themed options.

The Pacing Strategy: Managing The Crowds & The Heat

We chose to visit Epic Universe in early May, before most public schools released. Our park day was a Thursday, and we were hopeful that crowds would be a little lower. As mentioned, we did splurge on Express Passes last minute, and we are so glad we did. We stayed in the Endless Summer Dockside Inn and Suites, a value property that had a shuttle to the parks, as well as allowed guests to enter an hour ahead of the rest of the crowds, which helped us get a jump on the day. From there, we just entered each world, and hopped on lines. With Express Pass, we didn’t wait very long for anything (except Mine-Cart Madness), and that helped keep us in shaded queues and in good spirits. Booking a sit down dining reservation was another great decision, as it meant we would get to sit in the air conditioning and enjoy a leisurely meal. And DO NOT sleep on the lives shows! We only had time for Le Cirque Arcanus in the Ministry Of Magic, and it was both stunning and a great afternoon break. It was a LONG day, but we wanted to ride Stardust Racers and Constellation Carousel in the dark, so we held on for that. The park at night is stunning, but with a 9PM close, it’s hard to enjoy all the lights and beauty in the summer. Stay hydrated. Apply sunscreen often, and take breaks when needed. That’s the play

Ready For The Gates

A successful theme park vacation is all about managing your expectations and having a clear plan of attack before you arrive. By locking in your strategy, prioritizing your dining options, and understanding the layout ahead of time, you can navigate the gates with total confidence. The right preparation turns a chaotic park day into an unforgettable experience.

Are you currently planning a trip to checkout the new park? What is the number one land or attraction on your absolute must-see list? L

It was a beautiful morning that turned quickly into a beautiful day. Sundays are hard because they are immediately followed by Mondays, and Mondays are hard.

Lots to catch up on this week! April is chock full of holidays, birthdays, days off, and events, so let’s get to it!

About this morning… I was up and out early to dri About this morning…

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Where did you run or race this weekend?

So good to stretch the legs today. I was super sore after a @runsmartofficial cross training session last night, and needed to just get out there and let the fresh air work its magic.

What are you up to today? I really need to take a moment with my calendar and get some plans locked into place.

I got to sleep in AND take advantage of some cooler temps. It really didn’t warm up until my last mile and that was just fine.

I feel like this month and next are really just flying by. So much is going on, and I want so badly to enjoy it all, including the crisp, sunny days where we find them!

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you all, but you Happy Monday!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.

I managed (finally) and banked six miles in some gross humidity. And now it’s time for some self care and then back to work.

Also. We have somehow acquired a pecan tree? Any tips on the growth and care of this would be greatly appreciated!

Sunday fun day! Just a short walk to start the da Sunday fun day!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!
