Five Things I Want To Accomplish In 2024

January 11, 2024      10 Comments

Are there things I want to accomplish in 2024? You know there are! Even though I set some goals for the new year, I have a list of other things that I want to get done, especially in the fitness arena.

I want to make some gains at the gym

Right now, I’m in a good place at the gym. I’ve recorded 50 workouts, and they’ve all been solid and felt great. There is definitely improvement in my strength and balance, but I want to be at another level by the end of the year. I know there are some things I won’t be able to do (lunges, I’m looking at you), but I can develop my upper body, and get back to a place where I am really happy with myself and my fitness.

I’m scheduling at least one race per month this year

You heard it here first! I want at least twelve races this year, and I’ve already got my first three in place! Would it be fabulous to have more than that? You know it! But one race a month is a great thing to accomplish, and I’m all over it.

One of those races will be a half marathon

Here’s where I really need to get to work. It’s been two years since I ran a half, and I’m ready. Meghan asked me if I would accompany her on this adventure, and I’m all in. We just need to pick something fabulous. I don’t even mind if it’s an event or in a place I’ve already run – we just want to have a great time.

There’s a plan to read 50 books in 2024

I’ve been saying this for a while now, but I am off to a strong start and plan to keep it going. Reading is my favorite thing in the whole wide world, and it’s the thing I neglect the most. Part of the problem is I hate e-books, and I hate waiting for the books I want to read, so I buy without restriction, like a little book-hoarding gremlin. Is it a problem? Ehhhhh. Here’s what I have so far, but I am always open to suggestions and recommendations. Clearly, I don’t love light reading.

Most importantly, I want to do some of the things I keep planning to do

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a running list of things I really want to do. Some are local and easy, while others require travel and an investment. We can call it a bucket list, if you like, but it’s much more random than that. For example, the weather is perfect to see the manatees, and I said I would make time to go to the springs to see them before they leave. And here I am, on January 11, with no manatees in sight. That needs to change. Stat.

What are the things you’d like to accomplish in 2024?

Get healthy is the only thing I can think of.

Excited that you are returning the half distance. It’s awesome to have company.

    I read a lot but I never count… Maybe I should.

Good luck… I have no doubt that you will achieve all 5.

I am in awe of how you and so many others can read so much. like, how??? I love the goal! and I love the bucket list as well!

I think you can definitely smash your running and gym goals. I also want to run some races, I committed to 5 but secretly I’d love to do one a month. I’d honestly be happy with 5 and 10K’s. I just want to be in that flow again. If I lived near you I’d probably be easily sucked into doing a Half with your and Meghan hahaha !

So I am a speed reader, and I also am the person who can walk around with a book in my hand and just function while reading. I don’t watch tv very often, and I love books.

How do we get you over here! We are loads of fun and very convincing!

50 books!?! Wowza – I’m hoping to get through 24 lol

A race a month sounds like fun! And I do not doubt that you’ll hit that half marathon.

    Cheers to a great 2024!

Once upon a time, I could have done 50 in a month. But…. life. Sigh!

I hope so. It feels kind of daunting to do 13.1 miles again, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It’s fun to see you catching the strength bug! I think it is addictive once you get started — you really can see the progress you are making as you get stronger.

I read Heaven and Earth Grocery Store and enjoyed It, but he definitely has a style of narration I have to get into (I felt the same way reading his book Deacon King Kong).

Oh, good to know. I did enjoy Deacon King Kong, but thanks for preparing me! Sisters In Law is going a little more slowly for me, but that one is next.

I love all of these! Once you know which half marathon you decide to run, let me know, and maybe I will join you. I love reading books too and want to try reading in a Kindle. But first, I need to buy the darn thing. :-). Lunges? Remind me why you “can’t” do them.

I will absolutely let you know! That would be amazing!

So … I have nerve damage in the toes on my right foot after surgery. I can’t feel them, and when I am doing something that requires them to bend really far or take on the full support of my body (like lunges, planks and pushups), I don’t know when they are going too far and I end up straining them or other parts of my foot. That combined with my ankle not bending as far as it should to get a lunge with good form makes it a bad idea. It’s frustrating because lunges used to be so easy for me. Right now, I’m focused on squats, which are going well, but that doesn’t require my toes.

It was a beautiful morning that turned quickly into a beautiful day. Sundays are hard because they are immediately followed by Mondays, and Mondays are hard.

Lots to catch up on this week! April is chock full of holidays, birthdays, days off, and events, so let’s get to it!

About this morning… I was up and out early to d About this morning…

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Where did you run or race this weekend?

So good to stretch the legs today. I was super sore after a @runsmartofficial cross training session last night, and needed to just get out there and let the fresh air work its magic.

What are you up to today? I really need to take a moment with my calendar and get some plans locked into place.

I got to sleep in AND take advantage of some cooler temps. It really didn’t warm up until my last mile and that was just fine.

I feel like this month and next are really just flying by. So much is going on, and I want so badly to enjoy it all, including the crisp, sunny days where we find them!

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you all, but y Happy Monday!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.

I managed (finally) and banked six miles in some gross humidity. And now it’s time for some self care and then back to work.

Also. We have somehow acquired a pecan tree? Any tips on the growth and care of this would be greatly appreciated!

Sunday fun day! Just a short walk to start the da Sunday fun day!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!
