Making goals for the new year is something I’ve always enjoyed. l saw it as a reset and a fresh start. However, the last few years brought me some different feelings, and my attitude towards goal setting shifted. Life isn’t always what you expect and doesn’t always bring the opportunities you seek, and in 2024, I acknowledge these facts. Am I giving up? Absolutely not. But I am changing the way I set my goals for the new year.
In 2024, I Plan To Spend More Time On My Business
Life happens, and my blogs have gone by the wayside a little. What? You have a blog besides RunsWithPugs? Yup. You probably didn’t even know about the second one because I started it, and the chaos erupted. Ugh. But things are settling, and I have plans for both. Part of that plan involves working and planning ahead so I’m not caught up in the trap of last minute content. I’m already off to a great start, as I write this two weeks ahead of schedule.
My Goal Is To Work Harder At My Sense of Community
I am a person who fades in and out of community. It’s just how I operate. When I go through hard times, I vanish. Part of it is that I need to ground myself in my roots to find strength and the ability to overcome. The other part is I hate being a burden to anyone else. It’s a ridiculous flaw I have In 2024, I will make the attempt to stop hiding and be a bigger part of the community I love.
This Year, I Will Expect My Best
In 2023, I let myself fade quite a bit. There were too many other priorities and needs, and I allowed myself to fall into the background of my own life. That stops now. I am worthy (my word from last year), and I deserve consideration and fulfillment. As an introvert, it can be tough for me to assert myself, but I also don’t love existing in shadows. 2024 is a good time to stick up for me.
In The New Year, I Will Remove What No Longer Serves Me
It’s time for a purge! For a while, I’ve been aggravated by the clutter and accumulation in the house. However, with everyone home all the time, it’s challenging to really dig in and get organized. The garage is the first thing that needs an overhaul (Mr PugRunner has all his old office furniture and supplies in there, and they need a home), so I think it’s time to make it happen. I also want to upgrade things like cutlery and dishes (as soon as I sell or donate the old) to better quality and something a little more in my style.
Create More Space For Learning
I’m always looking for creative outlets, and this year, I plan to continue making that time and space. There are books in my to-be-read pile, and I want to learn how to embroider. I used to pick up these tasks with the hopes of starting some kind of business, but the reality is, I don’t need a side hustle. I need to express myself through art and knowledge. My schedule hasn’t allowed for book club, or things where I get to use my hands, and in 2024, I want to change that for the better.

Love these goals for 2024. I always do a big purge at the end of the year so that I can go into the new year with more open space (I hate clutter).

Clutter is fine until it’s not lol. We are teetering on that line!
Darlene S Cardillo says
These are great goals.
I really need to purge but there never seems to be the time.
Running seems to be the only thing (until I got injured) that I was consistent on.
I read a lot and I would love to join a book club. And crafts. I know how to crochet, knit, quilt but these skills come and go…
runswithpugs says
I sit on the purging plan for a WHILE, before I actually act. I just need to get myself in the right headspace with the perfect motivation. That’s how I roll.
My current book club is good, but it’s hard to get to meetings, and I am weird with books, so I kind of hate everything other people like lol. I suffer for the sense of community but I wish we could read heavier stuff.

I like that you are putting yourself first next year. As a mom and a wife, that is not always easy to do.
runswithpugs says
It is so easy to let ourselves fall by the wayside. I need to be better about prioritizing me.
Catrina says
These are great goals, Jenn!
Now I’m curious, what is your other blog about?
We have a minimalist lifestyle – so absolutely no clutter anywhere. I’m also very careful about what I buy.
It’s very liberating!
runswithpugs says
That’s awesome! I try to be minimalist, but then I see something and must have it. Sigh.
The other blog is about the NE Florida. I was trying to do a collection of date nights and girls night out type things, but things fizzled when my husband got sick. I kept the domain and the social, but I really want to focus on it more and figure out a plan.
Debbie says
Jenn, you’ve got some great goals and plans for 2024. Like Catrina, I’m curious about your other blog. Is it about family travel and things to do within Florida? I seem to remember that you linked an article you’d written for a family travel magazine sometime during the past year.
runswithpugs says
It’s about NE Florida and date nights/girls night out type things. I do freelance stuff under other websites, but I really wanted to focus on this time in our lives when we have time to date and explore things. Sadly, my husband got sick right around the original launch and it quickly became a non priority. Boo.

I had no idea you had another blog. Now you need to tell us about it. I am also in the process of purging. It feels good to get it done.
runswithpugs says
I started it and have the social for it, but just haven’t really spent much time on it. It’s called First Coast Favorites, and it’s all about dates and things to do in the NE of Florida.

Love your goals Jenn! Our home renovation has been a great catalyst for us to do a major purge and it has been eye-opening and very freeing…too much stuff can truly weigh you down! I’m really curious to hear more about your business!
runswithpugs says
It feels so good to let things go.
Jenny says
Ugh, clutter. I am DETERMINED to get rid of some of the clutter in this house as the new year begins.
I love your goals. I think you got a great start on them with all the strength training you’ve been doing- getting stronger physically carries over to mental strength. I can’t wait to hear how 2024 plays out for you!

I really need this to be a good year, but I’m nervous. I don’t want to expect too much!
