Hot, hot, hot… that’s the runfession. Mostly. But in all reality, could this summer just come to an end already?

For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
That I am ready to see Halloween and fall decorations on my runs! The runfession here is that my Halloween wreath, “welcome” mat, and porch pumpkins are proudly on display. When I get home from this current client, my plan is to purge all my old Halloween and fall decor, give away what I no longer on my local Buy Nothing page, and then bring in a few more new pieces to freshen things up. Senior night is on Halloween this year, so I’m going to have to get in all my spooky vibes in advance.

Next, I’ll Runfess…
That I am trying to fit in a literal year of races into the next four months. Seriously. It’s been FOREVER, and I want to make up for all the lost time. I’m holding off on registration simply because October is absolutely a menace as far as scheduling with band events, and I want to have performance times before I commit to anything… but it looks like I can fit in two in September.

Related Runfession…
I’m terrified. I haven’t raced in ages and this summer has me feeling absolutely terrible about my running. I’m sure I’m not alone, but as someone who suffers with generalized anxiety and, at times, suffocating self-doubt, the longer I’m away from the start line, the harder it is to go back.

My Next Runfession Is…
Most of the time, I love when I housesit, because I get a new neighborhood to run in. You would think that new places would be an automatic win, but that’s not always true. It’s nice to have new sights to see and different places to explore, but all subdivisions are not created equal. I had one made up of literally 30 houses, where I had to keep looping to get any distance at all. Another one is huge, but the roads are narrow with few sidewalks and lots of cars in the streets, so you have to stay on high alert at all times, and stick to the areas where there are pathways. Meh.

Finally, I Would Runfess…
That I got my next shoes and they are soooo pretty. The color I wanted was sold out (they were light yellow with dark orange accents), but I didn’t think I would love these as much as I do. I think I love when the soles are the same color as the upper, rather than in a contrasting black or white. Bold shoes are still my favorite, but I’m embracing the pastel and softer color ways, too.

Do you prefer bright or light shoes? Ready for the Fall holidays? What do you have to runfess?

I completely understand your anxiety with regard to getting back into racing! I DNS’d 2 races this year. I’m just not feeling it anymore. Good luck with the races you have coming up!
When it comes to shoes, I go back and forth between colorful and muted. Mostly, I like black, but I just got a new pair of trail shoes that are mint green. We’ll see how long those stay pretty, lol
Agree that it’s tough to get back to a start line after time away, but the only way to manage it is to get back out there. It’s helpful to go with a friend or to a favorite place to run!
Communities without sidewalks are so strange to me!
I definitely get it about being hard to get back to a starting line. Maybe get a friend to run with you.
I love your new shoe color! I’ve definitely been gravitating to more muted tones lately.
Those are pretty shoes. I think I like light ones.
It’s ok to be nervous when you haven’t raced in a while. I am nervous even when I do.
So have fun on your Sept races.
And it must be fun to get to run in different places when you housesit.
Those are pretty shoes!
Interesting take on neighborhoods. Some definitely are better for running than others. Busy roads and no sidewalks would be a No for me!
Ugh, running on busy roads is so stressful in my opinion. I’d not want to run there either. Your new shoes are so pretty. I’m leaning toward white and light colors lately as well. I am all in for fall now that it is September. I’m not wild about getting an email about Christmas trees from Target though. Ha!
Ha! We need to get through Halloween first!
