A few weeks ago, we talked about building your perfect running playlist, and now we are going to talk about the songs that are always on my training playlist. You all know that I don’t often run or train with music, but sometimes, I do need a little extra oomph to get me through. My tastes are also a bit eclectic: you’ll find folk, classical, broadway, rap, and pop on my list. No, I can’t explain it.

Wagon Wheel – Darius Rucker
While I always say I don’t love country music, there are some country songs that absolutely slap. For some reason, “Wagon Wheel” gets me moving and keeps me going. I also like to practice the line dance in my head while it plays, which is amazing for keeping my mind off running or lifting.

A Bar Song (Tipsy) – Shaboozey
This song is an absolute ear worm. It combines country and some 90s nostalgia for what I consider a perfect training tune. I could sing this all day long, and I could probably run to it all day, too.

Low – Flo Rida
Let’s take it back to the college club days. “Low” was an iconic anthem, and it’s got a great, repetitive beat. I’m all for a little nostalgia, and awesome rhythm, which gives Flo Rida an esteemed place on my “forever” training playlist. In honorable mention is “Right Round,” which also keeps me moving.

Lose Yourself – Eminem
Eminem’s quick and calculated lyrics make “Lose Yourself” a fantastic piece for speed and endurance. It’s very easy to get lost in this song. It’s familiar enough to be comfortable, but still has a cadence worthy of training success.

The Greatest Show – The Greatest Showman
Few musicals have such a toe-tapping, contagious soundtrack that I love them all, but The Greatest Showman comes close. The Greatest Show is my favorite, followed by From Now On, Rewrite The Stars, The Other Side, and This Is Me. If I’m in a slump, these are the songs that pull me out of it.

The Final Game – Rudy
While I realize that the movie about Rudy is probably just as contrived as the aforementioned one about PT Barnum, “The Final Game” track (and “Tryouts”) on the official movie soundtrack absolutely moves something in me. It’s one of the most inspiring pieces of music I’ve heard to date, and it is a must have on my music playlist.

There are so many more songs that constantly find their way on to my playlist, but these are definitely among the favorites. What songs and pieces of music do you love hearing on your runs and in your workout sessions?

Those are eclectic. I need to take a listen. Always looking for new stuff.
Lately I have been listening to podcasts if I run alone but I hate running alone.
I hate most podcasts! I always get so bored.
Love some of those classics! Everyone needs a little Flo Rida on their playlist
I do wish my knees could still get me that low, but what can you do!
