Oooof. This was a week. The anniversary of September 11 is always difficult, but the increasing violence and tensions seem to escalate on the daily.

Sunday
- Cardio: 5.39 miles, walking
After my morning walk, we tidied up the house and my parents came over to celebrate Grandparents Day with a meal. It was nice to spend time with them, and my mom brought her famous macaroni salad, which is my favorite thing ever.

Monday
- Cardio: 7.22 miles, running + walking
It was another gorgeous morning for a run so I took full advantage. I even extended my intervals a bit, which boosted my confidence and motivation.

I also made this Vegan Chili With Apples from Make It Dairy Free per Mr. PugRunner’s request. I am in soup season, and this was pretty good. We are not vegan, so we did serve it with shredded cheese and sour cream.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 4.77 miles, running + .69 miles, walking
I was dragging on Tuesday in all the ways. I woke up to huge storms, so I stayed in bed until the weather cleared. Of course, I got in a decent run and made up for the rest of it with a dog walk. At least it’s been getting cooler so my puppy clients aren’t quite as hot.

Wednesdsay
- Cardio: 7.48 miles, walking
I started my day with a walk for me, and then I had two walks with two different dogs scheduled. The first was a much longer excursion with my sweet regular, while the second was a walk with a new client super close to home. It was nice to mix things up.

Yes, my porch is already showing signs of Halloween.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.54 miles, running + 3.53 miles, walking
I don’t think I could have walked out all the sadness and bad feelings if I tried. Things are so ugly and it devastates me, in addition to being the 24th anniversary of 9/11.
I tried to shake it all off, and enjoyed both a run, and a long walk, part of which was with my new client.

The rest of the day was sort of a wash, and that’s ok. Sometimes, you just need to read and wallow around.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.92 miles, running
Deep breaths. It’s Friday. And the temperatures were low: 70F! I hadn’t planned to run, but I couldn’t let that go to waste.

When I rolled up to the house, I got a text that said French toast was being plated! Yes! I am always down for a hot, fresh breakfast!

I had a chill day at home, catching up on some work, and then headed over to the school. It’s Homecoming weekend and we were serving dinner to the band, as well as seeing their performance before the game (he’s got a woodwind feature, and also helps out with color guard, as our guard is super small this year). I love volunteering with the band, and I will be so sorry when that comes to an end.

Oh, and of course, I set out my flat runner/walker for tomorrow.

Saturday
- Cardio: Tunnel To Towers 5K
Mr PugRunner asked me to join him for the Tunnel To Towers 5K. It’s a memorial event that is incredibly important to him, so I agreed. It’s always inspiring, and I have a race report scheduled for this week.

In the evening, we headed out to celebrate a family friend’s birthday! It was a fun time and we had a hotel room for the night, so we could enjoy ourselves a little more. It was nice to end a crappy week with a lovely time with people we adore.
Thoughts + Goals
I don’t have much to say this week. I’m tired in my soul. We need to be better and do better. Period.

Yes, it was a heavy week and I’m tired too! I realize I’m very lucky to have 3 little ones to distract me from it all and keep me busy. Because when I’m not busy it’s too easy to think of all the heaviness! Nice running this week with the cooler temps!
Yes, it can be so easy to get dragged down. I’m trying to keep myself busy to keep my mind off things.
Yes, it was a tough, tough week, and these continual tough weeks are really taking a toll on me. I was grateful for the distraction of the wedding and having something fun and hopeful to celebrate. Good luck at your race this morning!
I’m so glad you had the wedding to bring so much joy and beauty. The photos you shared were gorgeous. I’m so happy for your son and your family!
It was a tough week for sure and it is emotionally tiring. I am not quite ready for chili and soup season yet but always look forward to it. Apple chili sounds interesting and different! Have a good week ahead
I’m always ready for chili and soup season. it’s my favorite time.
It was a tough week for me, but mostly because one of our cats has been under the weather. I know that seems minor with everything going on in the world- but we worry about our babies!
You had 70 degree weather??? I’m envious! I will say it’s been the slightest but cooler in the very early mornings here, but not much. But, patience- it will come!
Looking forward to the race recap (and- sending you an email today!)
So glad to connect!
I hope Muffin is feeling better. I know we worry, and I’m sorry it’s been so hard.
This weekend was positively windy and chilly in the morning and at night. I loved it. It will come!
How nice for you to have some cooler, more running-friendly temperatures! You got some good running done this week. Hope you had a good race!
Sep 11 certainly is a gloomy day, I can’t believe it’s been 24 years already.
It’s so surreal. My husband was a volunteer firefighter in New York when he was younger, and lost some friends and acquaintances in the attack. It’s really hard for him to see how memories fade as each year passes, especially since we are so far away and the connection just isn’t as strong. We will continue to remember and honor the day because that’s what we know how to do, and the Tunnel To Towers organization is doing some really great work for veterans, retired and injured first responders, and the families of those who have fallen in the line of duty.
It was a tough week for sure, and I distract myself by keeping busy.
I’m looking forward to reading your Tunnel to Towers 5K recap!
I don’t know if I can get more busy, but I”m trying every day.
It was a good week to be out of the country and disconnected! Such awful events.
French toast is my favorite! My run would have turned into negative splits to get home to that :). Super cute patriot tank top. I love it!
THE BEST WEEK FOR THAT! I’m so glad none of the ugliness touched you while you were away.
I did have to represent for 9/11.
Agreed, it was a tough week. I always do a 9/11 tribute fitness-wise, but totally spaced it off this year. I did wear patriotic clothing, so there’s that. Our weekend took us back tot he 90F’s temps (with the requisite humidity, LOL). It was a big jump, after the recent cold, but I’ll take it 😉
As long as don’t forget entirely. I think every year, the magnitude of the memory lessens a little, which is normal. Maybe being the 25th anniversary next year will bring some rejuvenation.
It was 66 degrees when I woke up today and I almost wept with joy.
It never gets easier… 24 years. Gasp! I was thereon 9/12 and it was so sad.
Glad you are enjoying cooler temps.
Looing forward to your race recap.
Never.
Definitely a heavy week…they are all feeling really heavy these days. Its hard not to spiral…
Anyways, love al your sunshiny pictures and gorgeous bright running clothes, that bring some light to the gloom!
I’ve been spirally for like five years. It’s all I know anymore lol.
