This has been a week of rain and storms: in Florida, it’s not common to have rain all day every day. We usually get little storms that last an hour or so, then move on. Of course, it’s like nothing is normal these days, so it would only track that the dismal weather persists in the form of an ugly nor’easter, sucking all the joy from every day. Let’s see how the week splashed out.

Sunday
- Cardio: 4 miles, walking
It was my last day with my clients, and I did my best to make the most of it. Annoyingly, I got caught in the rain. Again. I hate that.

I was able to return home around 2PM, which was just enough time to get situated and start winding down for the night. It was a good few days, but it’s always awesome to be back with my people and pugs.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.78 miles, running
I hit the ground running, literally. I always feel pretty energized on Monday mornings, like if I can just keep the momentum dialed up, I’ll get everything done. The run was great.

I hit the kitchen with a vengeance, making taquitos and sausage breakfast muffins to freeze for A. He loves the grab and go system, and I am happy to sustain him this way.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 7.02 miles, running + .63 miles, walking
I started the day with heaps of motivation. It always feels great to be in a productive frame of mind. As a result, my run was great, and I got a lot of work done in the morning.

I went to my regular dog walking client, and as I was leaving, I heard a flapping from my rear tire. I pulled over to check but didn’t see anything, so I headed to the grocery store. On my way back to the car, I glanced at the tire again, and saw a freaking 4″ blade wedged in it! Nooooooo! Mr PugRunner kindly traded vehicles with me and took it to the tire shop, where we ended up with four new wheels. Sigh.
While he was off doing that, I dug in with some more cooking. Up today was pancake muffins and a delicious Marry Me Chicken Gnocchi Soup. Recipes to come!
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.68 miles, walking
Just a regular, icky Wednesday. Again, the weather was drizzly and gray. It’s not the norm here and it absolutely brings down my mood.

Thursday
- Cardio: 6.76 miles, running (speedwork)
The morning started with a little speedwork. It’s not my favorite workout, but it’s the workout that I should do, right?

It was kind of an off and on day, with a visit from the a/c repair person (we need some maintenance done), more rain, and our second estate planning meeting. I’m so tired of it. In the evening, I met a friend of mine for dinner and drinks at a brand new pub. The company was amazing, while the food and drink was meh. We will pick elsewhere in the future.
Friday
- Cardio: 3 miles, treadmill
- Strength: Upper body, 30 minutes + mobility
I woke up to a hideous nor’easter doing its absolute worst. It wasn’t worth going out to get drenched, so I dragged myself to the gym and hopped on a treadmill. On the plus side, I did get a chance to read the vampire book we bought in New Orleans last year. But on the negative side, a man had to hop on the treadmill directly next to me, even though every other machine was open. I didn’t love that. While I was there, I figured I could also do some weights and stretching.

When I was finished, Mr PugRunner asked if I wanted to try the new-ish cruffin place by us. Yes, please.

I got the pugs out for a little walk in between raindrops.

And I laid out my flat runner for tomorrow’s race.

Saturday
- Strength: DONNA 5K at Sawgrass TPC
What a fun race this was!

And then we turned right around and headed out to a double header band comp! It was amazing! A and his band swept their division in preliminaries and fourth overall in finals! So proud of them!

Thoughts + Goals
The blog was a little cranky this week, so I’m going to keep it short!
I’m glad to be back in band season and that races are happening, too!
There is one more race I have my eye on for the end of the month. And I hope you’ll stick with all the cool blog updates! I’m hoping it looks more organized and that my recipes, race recaps and travel adventures pop a little more!

Yeah on the fun race and great band event!
It’s great that A will take breakfast from home. My kids never wanted breakfast unless it was PopTarts or Toaster Strudel.
Ugh on the tire woes. They are so $$$.
We have a little taste of that Nor’easter this weekend too. Supposedly we need the rain. I’m looking for projects to do in the house. Hope we both have better weather this week!
Allegedly we needed the rain too, but I’m not buying it!
Freaky about the tire! I first thought someone had put the blade there but you just drove over it?
Good to hear you ended the week with some happy events! Hope you get some better weather.
I hope I just drove over it! I don’t think I would sleep well if I thought someone did it on purpose!
Oh wow- we didn’t get that storm down here, just lots of drizzly rain off and on. I’m definitely ready for summer to end!
In spite of the weather you got a lot done this week- all that cooking, I’m impressed. My life is so much easier when I do food prep on the weekends, but I rarely feel like doing it.
Congrats to A and the band! Our band starts the season with a modified version of their halftime show, and then does the whole thing by the third game- except that it’s been so wet, this year they STILL have not done the full routine which is insane! No home game this week or next- are we ever going to see the entire halftime show???
Looking forward to your race recap!
Lucky!
It’s been so much better to have things ready to go or at least planned for. And I know this but it doesn’t always happen.
Oh my gosh, they had two amazing runs yesterday. They swept their division in prelims and finals, and came in 4th overall out of 24. Since we are primarily a competition team, we have most of the show in position by Labor Day. We open well, but we are known for taking the judge feedback throughout the season and revamping as we go. We very rarely get to perform our whole show at halftime because of weather and other events (Homecoming, senior night, etc). WE had middle school night on Friday and the bad got dismissed before the game started because it was pouring down rain.
Good job on all those workouts and your race!
I’ll have to check out your recipes as you reorganize your blog. How great that you can make breakfast meals ahead and freeze for grab-and-go’s throughout the week.
It’s still a work in progress but I am so happy with it and I hope you find something you love!
…and it’s practically barren here! We had some overnight rain(actually early Thursday morning), but that was it (other than all day Monday). Great job getting the run and and walks done regardless!
Oh, no! We don’t usually have such soggy, sloppy weather and I am ready for it to head out of town!
Wow what a storm! We were supposed to be wet/rainy this week but it stayed dry and pretty nice most days (but cooler!). I do know we’re due for some wet rainy fall weather soon – and I’m not ready! 40s and rain are not my favorite! Hopefully you get some good running weather this week. nice job getting it all in anyway!
We usually don’t get rain like this and we are saturated. Our downtown has been flooded for several days, and it’s all been very sloppy and messy.
I would love some temps in the 40s though!
I’m glad you had a good race–hopefully that will erase all the bad juju from the week. Here’s to a better week ahead!
It was definitely a step in the right direction!
Yikes on getting new tires! I did have to have a repair on one of mine and thankfully it was just a patch. I thought I needed new tires before winter hits, but my car went in for a recall/inspection and they said my tires all look good! So, no need to spend the money on that. Sorry for the rainy glum week, but it looks like it did end on a good note with your race and the band! Hopefully it’s on an upward swing now!
Today was so gorgeous and CHILLY, so yes, things are maybe turning around. Tires are no fun (adult stuff never is), but I am glad I caught it and didn’t blow out on a main road. Whew.
