There’s always that one run each year that hits a little differently. Everything just falls into place. For me, that moment came at the DONNA 5K at TPC Sawgrass just two weeks ago.

A Year Of Ups And Downs
This year was hard for us (as I’m sure it was for many people). My running took a huge hit, in addition to my motivation, positivity, and self-esteem. Racing once a month came to a grinding halt due to a variety of issues, and even when things were back on track, I dragged my feet or took a pass on registering. I felt pretty locked in to anxiety and negativity and didn’t really want to put myself out there. Did I want to feel excited about running and racing? Heck, yes. I just didn’t know how to find my way back.

Finding My Stride Again
After a long hiatus, I dipped my toe back into the public running world with a Labor Day race. It went well. I followed it quickly with a 9/11 event, that was also wonderful. My appetite for the race world was back, and I just needed something great to solidify those feelings. Enter the DONNA 5K. I had a free morning, and I loved the idea of registering for a new to me event.

The Comeback
Race morning dawned, and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. Even with the threat of rain, it was finally chilly and overcast enough to make running a joy. I was so grateful to be surrounded by so many strong and inspiring people on a beautiful day, making magic on a beautiful course. It was a humbling reminder that we can do hard things.

We All Need A Reset From Time To Time
When I get deep in my own head, there’s nothing I need more than a serious resent. the DONNA 5K provided exactly that. Not only was it a beautiful race, it was a worthy cause that hits close to home. This was the run that had my heart this year, and I cherish that memory.
