Well, we have finally returned from our adventure to Indiana, marching season is over, and I got struck by the crud that is going around. What a week!

Sunday
- Cardio: 1 mile, airport walking
We had to get up at 2:30 AM to be out the door en route to the airport at 3:15 AM. Ugh. I was super nervous because the Indianapolis Airport had issued an alert that due to the sheer numbers of people leaving town, they needed to open security at 3AM, and their Starbucks would be 24/7. The pressure! We returned our car rental, shuttled to the terminal, got through security, and grabbed coffee and a snack with plenty of time for me to get in a mile of walking. Of course, we then faced a 30 minute delay, which had me freaking out.

Our connection in Chicago landed just as our flight to Jacksonville started boarding. I sprinted across the way to our gate, while Mr PugRunner decided he would go to the restroom. We are obviously two very different travelers.
The good news is that we landed, got our bags and were home before noon with a stop for a real breakfast. We collected the pugs and I started in on laundry and getting back to normal. In the meantime, A’s flight wasn’t scheduled to land until 9:30PM that night… fortunately, I had worked out a great deal with friends, and since we had brought their son to the airport on Thursday, they were going to bring A home on Sunday night. It was good to have the family back together.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.56 miles, running
It felt great to really stretch my legs, even if it the weather had warmed up. We are NOT looking at a frosty Thanksgiving. Boo.

A returned to school, and I was back on the work track. All was well.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.08 miles, running + .14 miles, walking
Another busy day. We set the tone off right with a run.

And then I walked a client before heading to our final meeting with our attorney to get our estate binder! It was a rough process but it’s finished!
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.34 miles, walking
I woke up, not feeling 100%, but also not feeling unwell, either. Since the sun was shining, I figured a walk wouldn’t hurt.

Was it allergies or something else? I’ll never really know. If I had to guess, it was probably just coming down from the wild travel weekend, coupled with everything blooming again from the warm weather. Spoiler alert… I had 24 hours of misery, where I cycled through violent sneezing and some awful sinus drainage. I couldn’t even go to my book club friendsgiving, which was so disappointing. Admitting defeat, I hydrated, took a shower, and crawled into bed.
Thursday
- Cardio: 1 mile, walking
You know what? Sometimes, you just need a break. I turned off my alarm, and skipped my official run for the day. It was absolutely the right call. My symptoms were pretty much gone, but I felt absolutely wrung out and exhausted, so I did my scheduled dog walks and took myself to the couch.

Friday
- Cardio: 3.87 miles, running + .8 miles, walking
Slow and steady, am I right? A little run/walk through the woods pumped me full of fresh air, and I was so grateful for the movement. I didn’t push it.

Saturday
- Cardio: 5.57 miles, walking
I think it’s safe to say that I’m better. Still a little tired, but recovered just in time for the Thanksgiving madness to begin. We have our menu, and I have a rough plan of how to get the house prepped. Now I just have to lean in and get it done. Good times.

Another lovely thing is that I got to take A shopping and out for lunch today. His schedule is jam packed, so it was special that he was able to make some time.
Thoughts + Goals
I’ve been burning the candle at both ends, and in the middle, so it isn’t a suprise that I got knocked back a step or two this week. Fortunately, A is doing much better, and we have the next week off to catch up on some rest and recovery.
We are looking forward to a nice, family Thanksgiving. There are lots of great recipes making an appearance, and we even picked up some board games for extra fun.
I’d also like to point out that we have tickets to see Wicked: For Good next week, and I am soooo excited about it. We might even be able to squeeze in a holiday event or two, but we will see how my feast preparations go.

What a whirlwind–it’s no wonder you came down with something! i’m glad to hear you are feeling better. That Florida sunshine sure looks nice, just saying…
The sun is gorgeous. The humidity can kick rocks. But it was freaking hot in Indianapolis too! I’m starting to think that maybe it’s me.
OMG that travel schedule! Coming home from Sydney we got to our gate at SFO just as our flight to DC started boarding — and that was with a new trial process where we did not have to collect our bags at customs and re-check them. If we had to do that I’m not sure we would have made it.
Glad you are feeling recovered from the crud.
It was awful, especially for someone who is so anxious about flying. That’s nice that you didn’t have to get your bags and re check everything! I can’t even fathom flying at the big airports this time of year. Jax and Indy are both pretty small in comparison so things are usually fairly easy.
What a crazy week! Hopefully you’re feeling better soon. I am just starting to come down with something and hope that it makes its way out by the time we travel for thanksgiving!
Vitamin C Vitamin C Vitamin C! I’ve been chugging EmergenC and taking C caplets. I swear by it! Stay well and Happy Thanksgiving!
That is a whirlwind week for you! Glad you were not sidelined for too long! Have a very happy Thanksgiving
Can’t keep me down! I hope you do as well!
We’re not looking at a frosty Thanksgiving here either- it’s supposed to be 80 degrees. Oh well!
Sorry you weren’t feeling well- since it was pretty much just one day, could it have been allergies? Bummer that it was on the day of your Friendsgiving!
I have not started any Thanksgiving prep, YIKES. That’s what I’ll be doing today.
I want a cold Thanksgiving!!!!!
At first I thought allergies, but there was definitely some fever, some coughing, and even some GI stuff going on. And then I had a little residual coughing/draining. I mean, stranger things have happened. The important thing is that it’s cleared out.
And so the Friendsgiving… we had two women going who had both just had surgery, which was the biggest reason I canceled early. I knew they had lower immune systems so if it wasn’t allergies I didn’t want to risk their health. And then one woman had some TMJ issues. I had to decline. And then another woman messaged from the road to say she was en route and started throwing up! I felt so badly for the host!
What a busy week you had! I’ve concluded that life is a whirlwind no matter where we are in our stage of life – even though we’re empty nesters and I only work part time these days, I seem busier than ever!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Isn’t it funny how that works? Just when I think things have settled down, boom. Something else.
Travel can be so stressful especially if it involves flying.
Glad you’re feeling better.
Rest is often the best cure.
What is it with men and travelling? My husband is exactly like that, as soon as it’s time for boarding and time is a bit squeezed, he suddenly has to go to the bathroom!
I hope your Thanksgiving prep goes well and smoothly and that you feel better!
Your airport antics cracked me up! I’m glad it’s not just my family that is running around like crazy and getting up in the middle of the early AM for those flights. I’m glad you all ended up in the same place together, happy again!
I’m looking forward to seeing your Thanksgiving spread. You always make such cool stuff!
Your park run in the woods looks wonderful 🙂
Busy busy! Glad all went well with your travels, but sorry for the stress! Glad to hear ye feeling better for the next busy week on-deck. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sorry to hear you’ve been poorly. I’ve had it for 10 days now although almost better, just left with a cough. Weirdly, I felt OK except for a bit not OK all the first day – thankfully cancelled going to a meeting that involved a few older folks, which I’m glad of. I think mine was Covid and thank goodness we’d both had Covid vaccinations a month ago – I didn’t even pass it to Mr Liz! Hope you feel properly better now.
