The March Into Spring

March 1, 2026      21 Comments

Happy March! We are coming off another week of up and down weather, and we have our eyes on springing ahead and longer days. All good things, right? Florida spring doesn’t bloom quite like other parts of the country, but we will see the grass get brighter and a return of the dreaded humidity, so here’s to all that!

Sunday

  • Cardio: 5.41 miles, walking

With two clients (one overnight and one for just walks), I definitely got in some miles this week. While it’s nice to take myself for a walk, I also enjoy having a canine companion. I did get a little drizzled on for my solo walk, but all the dogs stayed dry!

Monday

  • Cardio: 4.3 miles, running + 1.99 miles, walking

Monday and Tuesday promised to be super buys days. Even with back to back to back clients and not being home, I managed to squeeze in a quick run. I even caught a glimpse of two deer. Usually I see more in this neighborhood, but I was getting out later due to the cold temperatures, so…

I was able to pop home for a quick minute, and then hopped on a zoom book club meeting. It was a small group as some of the women were dealing with the snowstorm up north, and no one loved the book (Murder Takes A Vacation by Laura Lippman), but it was good to catch up with this particular group.

Tuesday

  • Cardio: 3.78 miles, running + 1.96 miles, walking

Good morning, Tuesday! I had a nice little run before getting on my rotation of dog walks!

At 1:30, I had a follow up at the derm. If you joined me for runfessions, you would know that my biopsy came back all clear, and I was so very relieved. Moving on!

And then, in the evening, we had A’s pre-MPA concert. I haven’t heard much of what he’s been working on, and we were absolutely thrilled to see him debut on the bass drum with the symphonic band, and perform multiple solos for wind ensemble. It was so wonderful.

Wednesday

  • Cardio: 5.62 miles, walking

New shoe day! I love these!

I was absolutely in the weeds, so I opted out of my regular book club. I was disappointed, but I had so much work to do.

Thursday

  • Cardio: 4.38 miles, running + 2.12 miles, walking

And it’s starting to warm up again. It’s really such a roller coaster.

I’m in it for the beautiful blue skies.

Friday

  • Cardio: 6.04 miles, running + 1.5 miles, walking

This was really a great run and I felt a little heavy, but mostly good. Yes, it was humid, but I also managed to get out a little earlier so that helped.

Let me tell you this wild story: I went to the first of two dog walks for the day. It was my last day with this pup, walking him mid-morning and mid-afternoon. He was a little off: usually he wants to go for a long walk and today, he didn’t. Instead of playing, he just flopped down and demanded pets (which I gave, happily). It was almost time for me to leave when I heard a motorcycle. The dog RAN to the door. Through the window, I saw a man approach. He plugged in the garage code, so I assume he lived here. When he didn’t come right in, I decided to end the visit and exit, which is when he came in and followed me out. I introduced myself, as I usually deal with his wife, and he said he came home early. Of course, I confirmed with my client directly that she didn’t need me for the rest of the day, and I was on my way, but oof. That was a little alarming. Nothing like a suprise homeowner to get the heart pumping.

In the evening, we celebrated a friend’s Change of Command. It’s been a really great career for him, and he’s so excited to move on to his next chapter.

Saturday

  • Cardio: 2.37 miles, walking

Early and busy day! I had to get up with my alarm for the first time in a week to get in some miles and pack up the house.

A had two MPA performances: symphonic band at 10AM where he helped out with percussion, and wind ensemble at 2PM. It was a wonderful way to spend the day.

And then it was finally HOME! I may not move off my couch the rest of the day.

Thoughts + Goals

I am so happy to be home, for a whole week! I leave for Best Damn Race Orlando on Friday, and then hopefully, it’s back home again.

I’ve been struggling with my focus a lot this week, and I’m still catching up on posts and comments. I’ll get there.

I’m excited for another race, time with my Meghan, and Spring Break! We’ve got some great plans. I just have to keep my eyes on those things.

I think I would have been freaked out by the owner coming home early. I guess you could tell he belonged there, but ….

OTOH, the concert performances sound like a nice surprise.

That is so unnerving about the homeowner returning unannounced! I would have been scared too! I guess that’s always a risk when you’re housesitting.

Your son is quite the musician! Is he planning to pursue music as a career?

I’m constantly texting owners to say “hey, there’s a car in the driveway. are you sure it’s all clear?” Next time she books with me, I’m going to tell her to please let me know if there are any changes to be aware of.

He is not planning to pursue a musical career but he is planning to stick with it. We own his clarinet so he’s keeping that, and while we are still renting his sax, he wants to hold on to that as well. Plus all the percussion stuff. I can’t imagine a world where he doesn’t play, so it’s fine with me.

Sounds like you have a fun week ahead of you- being home, and then a race. I can’t wait to hear about these exciting spring break plans! I have to say I’m not too excited about springing ahead (more on this coming up on Tuesday!) but it is what it is. I’ll try to adopt your positive attitude.

How scary to have the homeowner you hadn’t met return unexpectedly while you were still at the house. I would have been freaked out, too.

Have fun in Orlando at the Best Damn Race! Enjoy every second of your down time!

Actually, I’ve never met either of them! I usually insist on a meet and greet, but the dog was super cute in the photo and the wife was incredibly communicative on rover messaging, so I went for it as our first walk was literally just a day of kind of thing. It all went well, so I had no qualms about accepting a week of walks for the dog when she asked again. This time, I will have questions lol.

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!
