week 53: time for a fresh start

January 2, 2022      13 Comments

Just like that, it’s time for a fresh start, and a new year. On the one hand, I’m excited. On the other, we have to start the year without Betty White, which is a tragic loss.

fresh start

Sunday – 5.31 miles, running

The day after Christmas was a bit off. Mr PugRunner still suffered from his allergies and sinus issues, so I headed out for a run to let him sleep in. Selfishly, I wanted to give my new running shoes a try.

fresh start

When I got home, Mr PugRunner and I made the final decision to postpone our trip. It just made sense, in light of how he was feeling. However, there was no time for rest.

A was off to a week long leadership camp, and we had our annual white elephant party to attend. We divided and conquered, with Mr PugRunner going to camp, and me going to the soirée. A wasn’t going to have his phone for the week, so it would be a nice distraction. Plus, I got to see these lovely ladies.

Monday – 4.48 miles, bridge repeats

Mr PugRunner came to the beach with me, to take advantage of the salt air. We walked some of the miles together, and then he went to do some work on the pier while I finished my miles.

We had breakfast together and then we just had a quiet, chill day until dinner time. We had a nice couples’ dinner with the same friends from the party the day before. It was a great night.

fresh start

Tuesday – 5.01 miles, running + .75 miles, walking

Since J was off enjoying adventures with her own family, I went out to run by myself. Honestly, it’s just not as fun, but I did it anyway.

fresh start

I was super excited for the rest of the day because we has reservations to take a tuk tuk tour of the city, followed by dinner and drinks. We’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but the stars finally aligned. Our tour was two hours long and covered the business architecture and memorials of Jacksonville. It was so fun, and incredibly informative.

When we wrapped up, we headed over to a new-to-us rooftop bar for cocktails and a meal. It was so lovely.

fresh start

Wednesday – 4.01 miles, walking

I had a few things I needed to do, =but ooo course, the day had to start with some fitness.

Thursday – 6.17 miles, running + .58 miles, walking

Still alone, I tried to stretch things out a little more, and ended up with over six miles. It was humid and hot again, and I can’t wait for the cold front too make things a little more pleasant.

Friday – 5.23 miles, walking

Happy New Year’s Eve! I started the day with a nice long walk.

fresh start

Mr PugRunner stayed home to finish up some work, while I ran out to get gas and some last minute things for his upcoming birthday. Then we made the trek to A’s camp for graduation.

The ceremony was so nice, and we were so proud of all our Scouts (we had a total of five in training from our Troops). A had a great experience, and even applied to volunteer at next winter’s program. We loaded his gear in the car and took him immediately to pick up lunch. Poor kid was starving.

fresh start

I am not a big New Year’s Eve lover. I tried to get in the spirit with a shirt I made, and some decor, but the truth is, I was ready for bed by 10:30. And I had no problem leaving the culdesac party for bed. I was sound asleep long before midnight.

fresh start

Saturday – 4.08 miles, walking

Happy Saturday! Happy New Year’s Day! And Happy Birthday, Mr PugRunner. While the boys slept in, I went out in the fog for a brisk walk.

When I got back, we went out for breakfast, and later, we had lunch with friends at a local brewery. It was a very special day of celebration, and I think it’s safe to say that the year started on the right foot.

Goal-getting

Well, it’s a new year, with new goals.

For starters, I chose my “word” of the year, which is CHALLENGE.

I feel I have been coasting by in a lot of places in my life, so now, I want to challenge myself to do new things and push harder. Along with the theme, I am doing a 31 day Virtual Ragnar Challenge and a 31 Day Productivity Challenge.

That’s it, I must move to Florida. All that sunshine…and even the fog looks like fun to run in! Happy New Year, and good luck on all the goals for 2022!

I’m with you–not a big NYE celebrator. I woke up to fireworks going off in the neighborhood, so technically, I was awake for midnight, lol.

I have not settled on a word for 2022. Last year’s word, STRONG, worked out really well for me. I’m considering my options as we speak.

I really like to keep NYE low-key too. Thanks to my boys I made it to midnight, but barely.

I love your choice of word for the year. I think I have finally settled on mine and will share it later this week.

    Happy New Year Jenn!

I think NYE is overrated, but I read an article that in Korea, they celebrate birthdays by year (not individually) so everyone becomes of legal drinking age on NYE — can you imagine!

Interesting challenge goals. The check email one wouldn’t work for me on a weekday — I need to check it at least every 2 hours – but on weekends I hardly check it at all! Some of the others are worth trying to implement for sure.

I’m still working on my word. 😉

I love NYE, but this year it didn’t happen due to our crazy circumstances. Challenge = great choice of words. My mantra last year was Blissful Persistence…and I’m seriously toying with just going with that again because it was a perfect fit.

Those are interesting items on the productivity challenge. At our house we are committing to clean out the pantry this month and then organize it when we restock. My family members have been getting the pantry out of order and it’s driving me a bit crazy, so I’m looking forward to some organization again! Great choice of words this year – you’ve got this!! Happy birthday to your husband!

I like the shirt you made for NYE! I’m not a big NYE person either- nowadays I stay up till midnight with my kids, but in the past there were years where I went to bed early.
i hope your husband is feeling better! Sounds like you made the most of the week. I like that productivity challenge! It’s a great way to start the year.

I love the shirt that you made for NYE! Personally, I think people make too much of a huge deal about NYE. I went out to a huge party once in my 20s and it was awful. After that I said I would spend NYE at home and that’s what I have done for the past 15+ years, lol.

Happy belated birthday to your hubby. I hope he had a great day! What a bummer that you had to cancel your trip, but it sounds like it worked out okay.

Congrats to A and his fellow Scouts. You should be proud!

I’m not a NYE party animal but I do like to stay awake as the year slips away and the new one arrives. Happy birthday to your hubby! It’s a whole 5 degrees here right now so I’m coveting some of that hot and humid!

About this morning… I was up and out early to d About this morning…

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Where did you run or race this weekend?

So good to stretch the legs today. I was super sore after a @runsmartofficial cross training session last night, and needed to just get out there and let the fresh air work its magic.

What are you up to today? I really need to take a moment with my calendar and get some plans locked into place.

I got to sleep in AND take advantage of some cooler temps. It really didn’t warm up until my last mile and that was just fine.

I feel like this month and next are really just flying by. So much is going on, and I want so badly to enjoy it all, including the crisp, sunny days where we find them!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.

I managed (finally) and banked six miles in some gross humidity. And now it’s time for some self care and then back to work.

Also. We have somehow acquired a pecan tree? Any tips on the growth and care of this would be greatly appreciated!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!
