Happy Monday!  It’s time for the Weekly Wrap with HoHo Runs and Taking The Long Way Home!

If you do a weekly recap post, this is a great way to check in with other active bloggers for extra support, sharing and accountability.

I’ve been slacking on my blogging this week. With Mr PugRunner out of town, tons of events on the calendar, and all the emotional upheaval of lockdown drills and answering questions about them, I just haven’t had the time or energy. Things will get better. I know they will.

The Week in Numbers

  • Sunday – 3 mile hike
  • Monday – 7 mile run
  • Tuesday – 60 minutes yoga
  • Wednesday – 6.55 mile run
  • Thursday – Total Body Workout Challenge Day 1
  • Friday – Total Body Workout Challenge Day 2
  • Saturday – 9.3 mile race, Total Body Workout Challenge Day 3

Sunday – 3 miles, hiking

On Sunday, I had the privilege of leading our Webelo den on a three mile nature hike. It was really a lot of fun and the boys all seemed to enjoy it. We practiced leadership positions, the principles of “leave no trace” and even spotted some prints and cool animals.

I am considering starting a hiking club in Scouts next year, to encourage more of the boys to get out and enjoy the beautiful trails we have.

Monday – 7 miles, running

It was a fairly uneventful morning run with the ladies.

Mondays are always hectic at work and home. The days are much busier, and when I get home, we have to rush to karate, rush home to have dinner and do homework… It’s always insane. Needless to say, Mondays aren’t my favorite.

Tuesday – Sunrise Power Hour Yoga, 60 minutes

No lie. This was one of the hardest yoga classes I’ve ever done. We spent so much time in downward dog, and my shoulders and core were killing me when we left. Yikes.

The pace of the day was just a little more tolerable than Monday. I have to say I made a ridiculous delicious and easy dinner: skinless egg rolls. It was just ground turkey, sautéed in sesame oil with minced garlic. I tossed in some shredded cabbage and carrots, low sodium soy sauce and garnished with green onions and chow mein noodles. Yum. I want to make it again.

After that we went to a spirit night for little man’s school at a local kids’ bookstore. It ended up being a great night and little man got four new books. He hasn’t really loved reading up til now, but something clicked and he devoured three of the four in just a few days. Maybe we have turned a corner.

Wednesday – 6.5 miles, running

This run was tough and I confess to hating almost every second of it. It happens.

Thursday – 10 burpees

Little man had a 7:30 dentist appointment so I begged off the gym. However, I still got in ten burpees to start the Total Body Workout Challenge with Rachel. This is such a great challenge and I am kind of bummed that I missed out on the first two months of challenges. I am committing to keep up with this, though.

After little man went to school, I started cleaning the house and packing for my Orlando racecation.

In the evening, the Scouts worked on earning their Whittling Chips. They were really focused, and they practiced their technique with bars of Ivory soap and popsicle sticks. It’s truly amazing what one can do with those two materials!

Friday – 10 superman + :30 plank + 10 push ups

Before leaving for Orlando, I took on 10 Superman, a 30 second plank and 10 pushups. I made the attempt to get off my knees for the pushups, and while I couldn’t get my nose all the way to the ground, I was able to complete the set on my toes! I was thrilled.

I accompanied C to the running store to help her find a great pair of shoes. She hadn’t been fitted yet, and she was ready to make the commitment! We followed our shopping trip with lunch and then I hit the road for Orlando!

Since Meghan wasn’t out of work yet, I went to Lake Eola Park to pick up our packets. it was such a gorgeous afternoon, and I was so excited for our run.

That night, we enjoyed margaritas and tacos,

and then we had a glass of wine and some girl talk before bed.

Saturday – Best Damn Race Orlando 10K + 5K Challenge + 20 burpees

The morning of Best Damn Race Orlando was incredible: cool and not too much humidity. I was thrilled!

We got to the venue around 6:15, which gave us plenty of time to go the bathroom, drop off our gear and take an ambassador photo.

I was so happy to run.

Meghan and I were in for the challenge, so we ran the 10K portion, and then C joined us for the 5K. That scored us three gorgeous medals! More to come in the official race report.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast, and then I hightailed it home.

Little man and one of his friends have been talking about a media contest they wanted to enter, so the rest of my afternoon was devoted to helping film a project on S’mores.

Needless to say, a lot of s’mores were made and consumed that day.

When his buddy went home, our neighbors all got together for hot dogs and more s’mores on the fire pit. I hung out for a little while, but finally had to call it a night.

I was really excited to end February with about 104 miles. This is a great start to the year, and I am actually very much on track for my 1000 in 2018 goal. I am also delighted to see progress with some of my strength training, and I hope to continue with all of that.

The next few weeks are going to be crazy with work, events and Scouts, and while I love the fun, I am looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel, too.

How was your week in training?

Are you on track with your fitness goals, so far?

It’s nice that your son is starting to enjoy reading. We had the same issue with my oldest. Then he found some books that he really liked–Alex Rider? They were above his reading level but he was determined to read them. That was amazing to me. I miss those days!

Congrats on your races! I’m doing the Total Body Challenge this time around too. I figured it I should give it a whirl. I need to work on my push-ups and this gives me an excuse to get it done.

    Have a great week!

I am a voracious reader. I will stay up all night reading books, hermit because I’m in the middle of a book, get lost in books. I always have a book on me (a paper one, not an e-reader). I really can’t relate to the idea of not being wholly absorbed by the written word. Little man’s non-love of reading hits me very hard. I feel like I’ve tried so many things (discovering new series, reading with him, reading aloud, etc) and none of it seemed to work. “They say” it just has to click. And maybe it has? I don’t know, but I’m going to keep trying.

      It’s a really great challenge!

      It’s a great challenge.

We like hiking but there aren’t too many cool places to go around here. We will see if we can get the club going and maybe get to explore some new places.

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.
