I really don’t mind Mondays. I usually feel pretty fresh and energized after the weekend and ready to get started with the week. Tuesdays are usually where the adrenaline wears off and I think “Oh. It’s the week. Let’s count down til Friday.”
I’ll also admit that I was a little down over the weekend. Over the last week, I have felt some negativity and I started to turn it inwards. Internalization is kind of a specialty of mine. I took a few days to chew over my feelings and get my head back on straight, and now, I’m ready to focus on the good and the positive.
That’s how it should be.
One thing that cheered me up? Receiving my medal from The Hangover Run Virtual 10K.
I love everything about this medal, from the memories it evokes of running my first two 6.2 mile distances back-to-back in a respectable time (with hills!) to the little mirrored sunglasses on the baby. I was so happy to add it to my collection and really need to get working on our medal displays. One of these days.
My second happy thought is that this girl ran 11 miles on Friday. You read that correctly. Eleven.
It’s also worth noting that I did the majority of this run with no music. I started out in the dark, and I normally don’t wear my earbuds for safety when the sun isn’t up. It took a while for sunrise, and then I kind of hit a groove and put the thought of starting up my iPod in the back of my mind. When I had to stop at the 6.5 mile mark for a bathroom break, I kind of wondered (on Twitter, where all good wonderings happen) if I should just go for it. Twitter told me yes. So I did.
I made it to 9.5 miles before my butt started to give out. I never thought such a thing could happen. I really have no idea how I kept putting one foot in front of the other, and I finally had to plug in my music to change things up and jolt myself into finishing. Hitting those 11 miles was one of the hardest things I’ve done in a long while. My legs were absolutely done and I had to talk myself through the final blocks. Somehow, some way, it got done.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I wore my compression calf sleeves for the rest of the day. So stylish.
For the remainder of the weekend, we just relaxed. We got to enjoy little man’s first t-ball game, some time at the pool with friends, a huge win for the Miami Hurricanes and a victory for the Miami Dolphins. It was wonderful and just what I needed to get over my little rut from last week and prepare myself for today.
How are you going to make Monday great?
Ashley (@FiddleDeeAsh) says
I shall make Monday great by surviving until bedtime. It’s just one of those days.

Stop it! 11 miles? Congratulations, that is phenomenal! I don’t know what kind of negativity you’ve experienced, but girl you ran 11 miles, that right there proves you rock because you worked hard to accomplish something and owned it!
No shame on the compression gear, I may or may not have worn compression socks to a NASCAR match haha

I’m trying to gather my thoughts enough to blog about it. It’s nothing personal but it’s bothering me, and what’s the point of having a blog if you can’t rant from your soapbox a little from time to time?
In the meantime, yes. Eleven miles. And girl, I wanted to stop it so badly. I’m not looking forward to 12, but on the other hand, I’m only 2.1 away from my half marathon goal!

BOOM! Way to conqure 11 miles!
I also internalize a lot of negative thoughts and stress. I am a naturally anxious person and I am really trying to work on it. It takes me a few days to mull over things before I sort it out.
I made Monday great by buying a new pair of jeans! 🙂

That medal is amazing.
And there is nothing wrong with compression – I am now teaching in compression socks and tennis shoes. They look horrid with dresses and break school dress code for sure, but we runners have unique priorities.

11 miles?!?! You totally rock! Way to stick with the run. I always haaaate the last mile or so. I do an out–and–back loop usually, so I’m running back over the same trail and despise the familiarity and how much I know I still have to go. Staying in the run toward the end is a feat in itself!

Thank you! I create my routes as I go. I stick inside some subdivisions, so it’s easy to just keep running up side streets and turning corners. It keeps the landscape changing and I’m never entirely too far from home in case I run into trouble.

Congrats on your 11 miler! It can be hard to stay motivated toward the end! Good call with the music. I try to change up the station/type of music when I am struggling and sometimes that helps!
runswithpugs says
Thank you! I was motivated in my head, but my body was NOT cooperating. At that point, I would have done anything to keep moving!
