Here we are, another week closer to summer vacation, and this week was prom week. I can’t believe it. Obviously, it’s been a long time since I attended a prom, so I was so excited to be part of all this excitement!
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.15 miles, walking
We had plans for a down day, but I couldn’t turn down a morning walk.
And then I did the thing I do best these days… made a grazing box.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.2 miles, running + .15 miles, walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Hello, Monday! I had a really good and productive run. I always love starting the week like that. Maybe it had something to do with the Boston Marathon going on. How about the American ladies? Amazing!
My leg workout didn’t feel hard but I did burn almost double the calories I normally do. It made me wonder if I was fighting something. I’ve been a little more tired than usual, so maybe that has something to do with it?
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.12 miles, walking
It was nice to get some warm sun. I spent a little time recharging.
I had lots of errands, and then two meetings, back to back. It was a later night than I would have preferred, but what can you do?
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.13 miles, running
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
I had to get up super early to get in my run. We had a detailer coming to clean up the SUV for prom night. I hate feeling rushed, but that’s just how it goes sometimes. At least I got to see the sunrise.
A had been in leadership camp for marching band the last few nights, exploring roles for next year’s show. This was his last night and we were glad to get him back home. I forget how lonely it gets when he is caught up in the season.
We went through the timeline for the next day, made sure we had his suit an accessories, and tried to turn in early.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
J was out of town, so I was on my own for our walk. usually, when she is here, we do some running, but I skipped on that. Instead, I walked, and hit the gym. This mom was ready to go!
I got home, did some work, and then got in prom mode. A and his date got dismissed early, and he went to get his hair trimmed, then came home. While he showered and changed, I packed a little snack and drink bin for the car, loaded up the camera, and got ready to go.
We picked up his date, got all the pictures, and then dropped them off at the prom.
We had a little mini date while they were dancing the night away, and then took them to Waffle House at the end of the night. I didn’t get to bed until about 1AM, which is unheard of!
Friday
- Cardio: 4 miles, walking
Due to some scheduling conflict, we had the day off of school, so everyone slept in, including me. I only had time for a short walk, and it was so hot (we had a heat wave this weekend, with temps in the 90s). Yuck.
We chilled out, I worked, and we made pizza and had ice cream to celebrate leadership position, which were released! A will be co-section leader next year, and he’s pretty excited for it!
Saturday
- Cardio: 5.86 miles, walking
Was there a little start of running? Maybe? It’s ok. J is back in town and we talked and chatted forever, then moved the conversation to the doughnut shop.
For me, the rest of the day was spent working, and in the evening, we attended what I think is our last band concert. It is insane that school is just about over!
Thoughts + Goals
One more week until the Spud Run 10K. I feel pretty ready, although kind of bummed to be doing it alone. What can you do?
Also, A will be turning 16 in just over a week. Can you imagine? It is just so surreal. He is such a low-key guy, so there isn’t much he wants or asked to do. He just wants to spend time with his favorites, and we are happy to oblige.
I believe I will be working the polls again this year! The Elections Office reached out to me – I guess I missed an email to sign up for training, so they wanted to double check if I was interested. The answer is very much, yes, especially this year. Voting is so important and I am a proud to be part of the process, if I can.
How was your week in training? Is it prom season near you? Any big races or birthdays coming up?

Wow those prom pics are fabulous! You took those? They look professional! They do grow up so fast. Way to get it done this week. Have fun at your race next weekend. I don’t like to do them alone either!
runswithpugs says
I did take them! These are my phone shots. I haven’t gone through my big camera yet.
They grow up soooo fast.
It will be fun regardless, but I’m having some anxiety about it.

Wow, it was quite a week for A!! How cute that you were part of his prom experience- I have a feeling Angie won’t let me within 50 miles of her prom, ha ha. Oh and congrats on the co-section leader role- in our band program, that position is rarely given to anyone but a senior.
Your race will be fun! Maybe you’ll meet a new friend : )

Really??? No way! I’m deferring to A’s girlfriend since she is the junior in the situation (he is a sophomore) but if I had my way, we would have had the themed prom prep and after party at my house. But they wanted low-key and Waffle House, and we delivered.
A was co section leader last year too. He’s got his eye on woodwind captain, but maybe next year. He’s sort of looking at drum major, as well. I’m just here for the ride.

No running races, but I had a great week of training for my big 100-mile gravel grinder coming up in three weeks.
A and his girlfriend are so cute and the pictures are fantastic. Prom pictures have gotten fancier than wedding pictures were when we got married. LOL I’m not sure when proms will be held here – I haven’t seen any FB posts from local friends, but my cousin posted prom pictures from her daughter’s prom in SWVA last night.

I was loving looking through all the local pics this weekend.
I think people have just gotten better at taking pics. It was so much harder when you had to use film and wait for things to get developed. Now you can just use your phone, and take a million. Plus, the kids have grown up in front of a camera lens and know how to pose and move to get great shots.

Nice pics of all the prom fun! It’s been six years since I’ve done any “promming,” but I had over 10 years of that, including the bonus years of organizing the stage decorations before and after my kids attended.

Since I am on the arts boosters, I don’t have time for the regular school volunteering. Maybe I should dip my toe? LOL!

Those prom pics are AMAZING! Hope everyone had so much fun. I can’t imagine my kids going to prom – not ready for that yet! And boo to 90 degrees – but I’m a little jealous. It was 30s for my run this morning which was good for running but not for spectating my son’s spring soccer game later in the day!
runswithpugs says
Thank you! It was so surreal. And they had so much fun!
I love 30s… It would have been cold for soccer for sure, but gorgeous for running!
Wendy says
Wow, prom was on a Thursday? Good thing there was no school the next day! Your photos are amazing. He is just so handsome! Happy 16th birthday to him!

We have (I think) 6 or 7 high schools in our district, and there is only one venue in the county that can hold the number of attendees each school has (I’m willing to bet our school had 800 kids). The venue can host 2-3 major events at a time, but still, everyone is scrambling for space. I am betting they saw the cheaper price tag for Thursday night, coupled that with Friday off and boom. We had ourselves a prom.
Darlene S Cardillo says
Love all the prom pics. A looked so handsome.
I have a 10k next weekend… I’m trying to talk a friend into coming… I hate to race alone too.
runswithpugs says
We can race together but apart!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
What beautiful prom pictures!! How exciting. So a new driver in your house soon??
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
Yup. He waited to get his permit, so he will be able to get the DL early June. In the meantime, we signed him up for a safe driving course with the sheriffs office, that will teach him funky defensive driving techniques. I’m terrified and excited lol!
Susanne says
Those are really beautiful prom photos!!!
You are so good at fitting in your workouts around all the other things going on. How fun with a 10k coming up! I hope that thing with burning extra calories is nothing big.
I haven’t heard if Ireland has anything like the prom. They should have! I have to look it up now.
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
The hubs has a cold so maybe I was just fighting something. Everything else seems better this week, so who knows!
I’d be interested if they have a prom or some kind of formal dance!
Marcia says
Your prom pics are fabulous! Glad they had so much fun! Here some of J’s friends rented an Air BNB and stocked it with liquor. I was having none of that. They went out for post-prom pancakes and then a few came here for a low-ley sleepover. This mama don’t play.

When I was in high school, the thing was to go to the Jersey Shore after prom. I guess some of the parents would rent beach houses and the kids would all go down and do whatever it is that kids do unsupervised by the beach. My mom was like HELL NO. At the time, I was furious, but looking back, I realize that she was right. I asked A if there were any after parties and he said yes but they weren’t interested. The good news is he and his girlfriend are the homebodiest of the homebodies, so no worries there.
