And we are back in Florida! I was super sad to leave Chattanooga, but it was also (mostly) good to be home and see the pugs. Of course, homecoming was also an adventure, but such is life.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.30 miles, running + walking
Happy Sunday! It was our last full day in Chattanooga, and I was ready to make the most of it. The boys slept in but I laced up and headed out. I checked my route with the concierge, and then headed through downtown, over the bridge, and into Coolidge Park.
I showered and changed and we were off to brunch! A opted to sleep in, so it was just me and Mr PugRunner.
We also used the morning to check out a few of the free things in town: the Sculpture Fields and this cool walkway outside of the art museum. It was boiling so we didn’t last long.
In the evening, we opted for some Detroit-style pizza (our first time).
And I wanted a photo in this gorgeous umbrella alley.
Monday
- Cardio: 1 mile, walking
Goodbye, Chattanooga! We stopped for bagels and coffee and headed out of town (I got a quick mile in before we hit the road, but no photos).
The trip was ok (I did the whole thing), but we drove into a serious storm. The sky turned black with torrential downpour. When we pulled into our neighborhood, the hail and lightning started. I wanted everyone to wait in the car for it to pass, and 60 mph gusts rocked our vehicle as the wind blew between the houses. That being said, the storm took out parts of our fence, knocked over many of our plants, shattered one of our plastic aidirondack chairs, blew the GFI (fortunately, we were able to save the food in the outside fridge and restore power), and broke our a/c. Sigh. I’m tired of these “historical weather events.”
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.81 miles, running + walking
And we are back on track! Happy Tuesday! We ran a little, walked a lot.
And I got my nails done, which was lovely.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.48 miles, walking
While it’s good to be back in a routine, it’s also hard no longer being on vacation.
On the plus side, I was super motivated, so I spent most of the day styling and shooting content.
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.5 miles, walking + running
Back at it with J! The humidity and heat are absolutely soul-sucking, which means it’s just so hard to get any productive running done. We do what we can, and that’s it.
I also got my hair done! In all the madness, I’m glad I had time for self care this week, because the constant storms are just sending me to insanity.
Friday
- Cardio: 7.15 miles, running + walking
J and I are managing longer walks because of stress. And that’s ok.
Saturday
- Cardio: 5.19 miles, walking
I got up early to squeeze in a walk.
And the a/c guys came and replaced our handler! Yay! We are back to reasonable temps! i
Thoughts + Goals
All things are moving in the right direction, which is good.
My stepdad is home from the rehab center, which is to be celebrated!
The a/c is back, the fence is almost fixed, and we only lost a few tomatoes and a basil plant.
This week, I go in for poll worker training for the election cycle. I missed the last round, so I am glad to be back. It’s going to be quite a year.

Seriously with the storms! Besides the Florida-like weather we’ve had, we’ve also had some really bad storms here. Right now, we’re having some calm, cooler (relatively speaking) temps and it’s nice!
Your trip to Chattanooga looks like so much fun!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Sorry about the storms. Hope they are fine!!
But you vacation looked awesome.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I meant hope they are done or over for awhile at least.

Same!

Wow the storms are crazy this time of the year! Looks like you all had a really fun few days away. Looks like a cute city with. Lots to do. Have a fab week ahead
runswithpugs says
It was really fun and I would love to go back!
Coco says
Wow, that’s quite a storm! I’m glad things are almost back in order already, but it sounds scary an a pain to deal with.
How’d you like the Detroit-style pizza?
runswithpugs says
I really enjoyed it! Obviously, NY thin crust is my favorite, but I like to mix it up. It definitely lends itself to things like crispy pepperoni cups, but Mr PugRunner can’t have that, so lots of veggies it was!
Jenny says
Now wait just a minute! Don’t tell me you lived without AC from Monday-Saturday. You didn’t mention checking into a hotel or expiring of a heatstroke, so I assume the AC was working at least a little??? I want details!
Your last day in Chattanooga sounds so fun! I love the early morning run and the mural.
I hope this week is more calm. We have not had any crazy weather yet this summer, which probably means we’re due for some. Gulp.

LOL! The post was already really long. Basically, the upstairs unit was ok, but the downstairs unit was damaged. The emergency tech pumped us full of freon and told us good luck, while our friend who is in HVAC (he wasn’t home that night) ordered us the parts. I turned everything down as low as we could, closed all the blinds, and wouldn’t let anyone use the oven. We got up to 78ºF downstairs, but we were lucky because the daily storms started rolling through around 1-2… with the clouds and rain, it never got any hotter inside. I was miserable (thanks hot flashes), but it was liveable, and the dogs were ok. New unit went in on Saturday and we are back in business.

That’s such good news about your stepdad but so sorry about the storm disruptions! How did it work without the AC?! One year we were in Italy we stayed in a recently built apartment where the AC hadn’t been installed yet.. it was hard!
runswithpugs says
It was ok without the a/c. The upstairs unit was ok, but downstairs had a damaged coil and some other things going on. We had a tech come over and pump us full of freon. Then I turned everything down as cold as we could stand it and we waited. The good news is that the storms came during the hottest parts of the day so the highest we got downstairs was 78ºF (we keep it at 74 during the day and 72 upstairs at night). We didn’t use the oven and kept all the blinds closed, too.

That’s great news that your step dad is out of the rehab facility – phew! What a relief. And yikes to no AC – esp with all the heat you guys have. Your nails are lovely!! I love them! Also that umbrella alley is so fun – great pic!
runswithpugs says
The umbrella alley was so cool. I had my eye on that the whole time we were there.
Kimberly Hatting says
Wow that was a serious storm! Sorry for all the damage. We had a crazy (thankfully short) storm on Monday here as well. That rain and wind can really get scary!
runswithpugs says
Not a fan. I am terrified of what the hurricanes will look like.
Marcia says
Glad you enjoyed Chattanooga! We were last there when we delivered our older daughter’s new car down to her in ATL and it was fun. Sorry about all the wicked storms. They are scary and dangerous for sure!
runswithpugs says
It’s such a great city and we had a fun time.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
So did you like the Detroit style pizza? There is one restaurant in Toledo (my town!) which is known for that style pizza and it’s so good. It takes forever to bake though! Otherwise we have to wait until we get to Detroit to enjoy it (only an hour away).
So glad to hear your stepdad is out of the rehab center. I hope he is feeling well and comfortable at home.
runswithpugs says
I did. Similar to Chicago, but a little different. We are NY pizza people, so sometimes it’s nice to break out of the norm.
We are very relieved to have him home with my mom.
Debbie says
What a lovely vacation and what a wild return to your neighborhood. Was your AC out from Monday’s storm all the way to Saturday? In Florida? In July? That sounds horrible!
runswithpugs says
It was limping along all that time. The tech put in some freon to last us, and I just cranked everything down as low as I could, and kept all the blinds closed. Upstairs was fine. Downstairs would get as hot as 77 (we keep it between 72-74), but fortunately, we have major afternoon storms so the sun could cook us. It was still horrible.
