Well, it’s that time: one of our busiest celebration times of the year! First, Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate. I’m coming off my birthday so it’s been quite a bit of fun! Let’s see how the week played out.

Sunday
- Cardio: 4.35 miles, walking
I had a long and late Saturday night, which meant I slept a bit on Sunday. After I got the pets in my charge all settled, the rain started, so I waited it out before going on a steamy walk. Yuck.

I stayed at my client’s house until late afternoon and then it was home! Even better? I don’t have another overnight gig until the end of the month, so yay for sleeping in my own bed!
Monday
- Cardio: 6.41 miles, running
I plowed into Monday pretty hard. This week promised to come with tons of rain, so I wasn’t waiting around to let it cramp my style.

Work meetings and getting back on track in the house… that’s what was on tap for Monday.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 40 minutes, Lunge Alternatives, 10 minutes
Good morning! It was time to get out and get moving!

Then I broke it down with some lunge alternatives! I’ve mentioned my struggles with lunges, but I saw a video where some exercises were recommended that offered the same benefits as lunges, and I decided to work them into my routine. We’re talking standing on one leg, knee bent, and extending heel back through toe on the other leg, standing butt kicks, in and outs, and standing body tilts on one leg. So far, so good, and no pain in my foot and ankle!
That evening, we had A’s last concert of the evening. It was so bittersweet that the year is coming to an end. Flights are booked for November’s Indy trip, and mini camp starts on Monday. Did I mention that he was selected as Woodwind Captain and Section Leader? He’s going to do a great job!

Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.82 miles, walking
- Strength: Lunge Alternatives, 10 minutes, 100 Kettlebell swings
I always look forward to Wednesday as a little bit of a down day. First up was a very cleansing walk.

Followed up with my lunge alternatives and also… I hopped on the 100 Kettlebell Swings In 30 Days Challenge. What the heck?
In the evening, we headed to the Yelp Tour 25 at the Jacksonville Public Library. There is always a huge annual event to sort of showcase the spirit of Yelp, and this time it was Warped Tour themed. The local radio station came out to DJ, and there were lots of local food and spirits vendors offering bites, tastes, and samples. We have been home so much this year, that it was all a bit overwhelming, but we had fun.

Thursday
- Cardio: 6.39 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Lunge Alternatives, 10 minutes, 100 Kettlebell swings
The week is coming to an end, but not fast enough for me!

In the evening, we tried out the new food truck park near our house. It’s a wonderful concept, with outdoor picnic tables and an indoor area that has seating, a bar, pool tables, and tvs. They have live music, bingo, and other events, as well. We are going to try to frequent them a bit more in support of their efforts. I’m always in love with efforts to improve community and I wish them the best.

Friday
- Cardio: 5.58 miles, walking
- Strength: Lunge Alternatives, 10 minutes, 100 Kettlebell swings
Happy 48th birthday to me! We started the day with a walk downtown. Mr PugRunner joined me, and I really put him through the paces.

We had breakfast at Ragga Surf Cafe, one of my faves, and then headed home to chill out. I did some work and we watched Captain America: Brave New World, which I couldn’t really get into.
That evening, we went to the Red Lei, my friend’s brand new tiki speakeasy! We used to have a really cool secret tiki bar, but it closed, and there was definitely a need. This weekend was their soft open, and it was incredible. The vibe is perfect, drinks are amazing, and the food was really good too! We cannot wait to go back with our friends!

Then it was off to a quiet dinner with the family.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.65 miles, walking
- Strength: Lunge Alternatives, 10 minutes, 100 Kettlebell swings
I got up fairly on time and got in my walk.

We spent some time at the St. Augustine Food & Wine Festival. It’s one of my favorite events of the year.

And then off to the band banquet tonight. It was a long night of celebrating and awards, and A took home some kudos from both winter guard and marching band. We are so proud.
Thoughts & Goals
The good news is that we have reached the light at the end of the tunnel, and that’s really an incredible thing. It’s been a long five months and it’s nice to have some decent breathing room.
The school year is winding down: the seniors all had their last day on Friday, and now it’s time for the underclassmen to finish all their testing and the like. Mini band camp starts on Monday and so it goes.

Happy Mother’s Day and happy belated birthday, Jenn! It sounds like you had a busy and fun week of celebrations. Congrats to A on his leadership positions for next year in band.
Ooh, Happy Birthday and Happy Mother’s Day! Looks like you had a LOT of fun this week! I like your two challenges- the kettle bells and the lunge alternatives. We also had the band banquet this week (ours was Friday). Congrats to A on section leader! In our school, that’s a big deal. The band director chooses someone and it’s based not just on playing but also leadership skills and overall responsibility. So, kudos to A.
Happy Mother’s Day!!!
Thank you! And we did!
Our band does a leadership camp in March. The kids apply for the positions they hope to get, complete with interviews and essays. Then they do three afternoons in a group setting, and at the end of that time, the band director appoints his leadership team for the following year. He’s been co-section-leader for the past two years, but this year he is on his won, AND gets woodwind caption, too. He kind of wanted to go for drum major because he loves being in charge, but he just loves to march and couldn’t imagine not being on the field.
Happy Mother’s Day and happy belated birthday!! What a fun and activity filled week. Love all the photos and how fun to be Yelp Elite A
You always do so many fun things during your week.
Happy Birthday!
I’ve had 3 birthday dinners. It’s fun to prolong the celebrations.
Although they can be stressful with all the logistics and planning, I actually like busy weeks. It’s fun having a full calendar 😉 Happy Belated Bday and Happy Mother’s Day!
I agree. Keeps my brain off stuff I don’t want to think about lol.
You packed a lot of fun things in your week! Happy birthday, you youngster! Congrats to your son – he’s going to have an amazing summer with all of that band stuff going on!
LOL! It’s already so great to see how much lighter and happier he is to be working on band stuff. It’s his passion for sure.
That looks like a fun and upbeat week for you! I remember now that you said you can’t do lunges after your ankle fracture. That’s great to find some good alternatives, nothing beats some good single leg exercises!
Happy belated birthday! What a nice place to celebrate!
We had a good time. It’s been a while since we have been able to just let go and enjoy things, so it was all good!
Happy Birthday!!!
