And no. I’m not thrilled. It’s hot and muggy and humid. The now daily rain is great but it’s stirring up pollen so I am struggling through each day with a super fun allergy headache. Yay. But it’s pretty much summer and we are strapped in for a long one! Oh, and hurricane season opens on Monday, too! What fun!

Sunday
- Cardio: 4.17 miles, walking
I was up and at ’em pretty early. Not only did I have early morning clients, but I was moving into a new house for the week.

There have been so many deer, so close to the road. I didn’t even notice this mama and her baby until I as almost directly on top of them. And then I tiptoed away as quietly as I could so they didn’t startle.
Basically, the entire day was dedicated to relocating myself, feeding, watering, and pottying animals. From now until Friday, I would be watching a total of six dogs, three cats, and a parrot. Game on!
I also finally opened the book club box from my local bookseller. I wasn’t able to attend the actual book club, but I am so excited to have a murder mystery party game! The book itself got three stars from me, but I’d totally invest in a box again!

Monday
- Cardio: 3 miles, walking + running
I really did try to run, but I was exhausted and also felt so weighed down by the weather. Like it just wasn’t safe to overexert. Walking works. I also stumbled upon these running shoes dangling over the water hazard on the golf course. I’m curious to know the story behind that.

Tuesday
- Cardio: 3.14 miles, walking + running
Another day I just couldn’t get myself going. Grrr. Trust when I say I love what I do, but I’ve been burning the candle at all ends. Mornings start at 4:30AM to ensure that I get to all my fur babies in time for breakfast. And then I can’t fall asleep til almost 11PM. Things will shift on Sunday and I am looking forward to that.

Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.01 miles, walking
I think I’m just jumping for joy that I have an actual walk day for a change! Whoo hoo!

Thursday
- Cardio: 4.30 miles, running + walking
For some reason, it felt just the slightest bit cooler. Maybe I was delirious, or maybe I just needed to run, but I sucked it up and off I went. It was actually pretty great, with the exception of yellow flies. Ugh.

Friday
- Cardio: 5.11 miles, running + walking
And it’s Friday! Finally!

It was another kind of cool morning and I took advantage.
And then we had some emotions. It was the actual last official high school thing: a clap out and A’s old elementary school. Kids who attended the K-5 were invited to show up in their graduation regalia, and would walk through the halls with the outgoing 5th graders, to claps and cheers from all the other staff and students. Parents weren’t allowed inside due to security reasons, but they did march the whole procession past us and got a huge group photo in front of the school. And that’s a wrap.

Saturday
- Cardio: 4.06 miles, walking
I had a little reprieve this morning as I spent the night in my own bed. But I also had to repack my things and head right back out to one of my favorite houses. I still started the day with some movement. It was a busy morning: I saw a pack of wild pigs, a raccoon, and about four or five deer driving to my destination.

We also met up with a friend for his birthday. I could only stay for lunch and a drink but they will be going all night!
Thoughts + Goals
So. Here we are.
I’m using the time away from home to reset my nutrition. Not being in my own space means less access to snacks and mindless eating. I’m tracking myself, paying special mind to protein, and it’s going fine. There is no world in which I am ever going to crave cottage cheese or plain Greek yogurt, but I also need to fuel in ways that are appropriate for the season I’m in. Sigh.
A’s moving day is ticking closer, too. He’s already got piles of things to take, things to leave, and things to donate or discard. It’s just surreal. He, however, is super excited, and doing great with work and keeping himself moving forward. Fingers crossed that the process continues smoothly.

Weekly Rundown
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!

Ayyy Mama, this is a tough season of life for you! Both my boys left at the same time, one for college and one for his apartment in the city and boy did I miss them. It’s hard to let them go, but remind yourself that you did your job well! Hopefuly he’s not going too far away. Hang in there–sending hugs from afar.
He will be just about two hours away, which is perfect. We have a housing problem with the institutions here, so I think what’s making it tough is that he will be in “student housing” vs a dorm. Dorms are on campus while the student housing is off campus apartments. They are furnished like dorms, but they are real apartments. I wish he was getting more of an on campus experience, but this is the path so off he goes!
I appreciate the hugs.
Aww, that elementary school walk through is a sweet tradition!
When does A have to move out?
4:30 am is an EARLY start! I have a hard time making myself go to bed before 11 but I don’t get up before 5 anymore.
Have a great week!
It’s just the cutest thing. I saw video from inside the school: one of A’s friends has a little sister who still goes there. She was sitting there and when she saw her big bro come through she jumped up and hugged him and oh, my heart!
It IS early. But I’m back to a slightly more relaxed schedule. This past week just happened to be getting up, taking care of 6 animals, getting out of the house for a walk or run before it got too hot, and then driving to two different houses for more pet care. Everyone is back from their post graduation celebrations so things are a little easier. Yay!
It is an emotional time for sure! You will make it through I promise. We all do! Remember it’s a sign that you did your job well 🙂 I would not say I crave cottage cheese but I try to find ways to add it in. The easiest way for me is to scramble it into my morning eggs. Have you tried that?
That’s the first thing I did. I make a scramble with spinach, mushrooms and a little bit of GOOD cheese with the cottage cheese. That way, I don’t know it’s there. But I don’t always have the chance to cook while I’m working, so I have to just suck it up.
You made it! Parenting is by no means over, but look what a successful young man you and your husband have raised! You should be proud.
It’s great that your Rover business is going so well, but wow are you busy! Hopefully, you’ll have a few relaxing days here and there coming up.
Enjoy your week!
I made it for now lol! It doesn’t get easier I’m sure!
It does add up. It’s hard because I take the jobs in advance and then things come up that I want to do and it’s tough fitting it all in. I can’t complain because this is entrepreneurship. But I wish I had another one of me to go around.
Sounds mentally and physically exhausting. This is a huge transition for your family! I love that elementary school walk through- our school doesn’t do that. And… yes, summer. Just this morning I was thinking “how many months till we can open the windows? FIVE???” Ugh.
Hang in there- nice job getting yourself out and moving every day in spite of the craziness.
HUGE!
I never saw it before A did his 5th grade clapout from that school all those years ago. I thought it was so sweet and special. They would have had more kids, but they waited to the actual last day of school, which was almost two weeks after graduation. A only went because the moms all guilted him lol.
I feel like outside will be miserable FOREVERRRRRRRR.
Wow. Your job is keeping you busy. It seems that you love it.
Just remember when we can’t run because of ice and snow, you’ll be smiling.
I would still be out there, slipping and sliding and complaining about my numb fingers lol!
I love it so much. Animals are the best!
Wow, I am not envious of you. I’m enjoying this crazy season of my life just fine 🙂 I agree that it can be hard though no matter what to care for yourself and take care of you, esp with food! It’s easier to care for others. But you have to care for you! Enjoy that cottage cheese and yogurt 🙂 I like to actually mix greek yogurt and cottage cheese together, and top with some banana slices. for me, that’s delicious!
Sigh, this is what we are all striving for, right? The time for our kids to spread their wings and succeed on their own. It’s such a tough time! But it is also an exciting new chapter for you and your hubby, which I know you will also enjoy. TBH, I keep forgetting that my daughter has moved out of her college apartment and is really back “for good” (at least until her next big thing!).
I saw that our HS also did the elementary clap outs, but they didn’t do them when my kids graduated (thanks COVID!).
I hope your busy pet sitting schedule goes well!
those critters <3
Love the clap out idea. So fun.
What a beautiful tradition to do that elementary school walk! I can imagine that along with the whole graduation experience, is emotional for you.
Your furry clients are keeping you busy! 4.30 is very early but living with a cat I can totally understand why it’s needed (or is it more for your own logistics?). You’re doing so well keeping up your walking and running (when appropriate) despite your busy schedule and weather.
Such a big milestone to cross! I love the elementary walk-through 😉 Our middle school did a similar thing with the graduating seniors, and it was fun to see (via video).
