Since I started running in February, I have been stepping out of my comfort zone on the regular.
First it was actual running. Then it was registering for races and putting myself in an unknown situation, in public, surrounded by strangers. I mean, this is the stuff of nightmares. However, it’s been good for me to push and to keep flirting with my boundaries.
Which is why, when I was offered the opportunity to run in our local Color Me Rad 5K, I decided to go for it.
Even though the idea of being covered in vivid corn starch makes me a little nervous, I have really wanted to participate in a color run. I have some friends who will probably come with me, and little man wants to join me, so it promises to be a really fun and exciting time. This is an untimed race, so I plan to take my time and really soak up the experience. I only hope the colors are as brilliant as the ones pictured above.
Runs like the Color Me Rad 5K are great for the sense of community. I love the idea of teams and groups of friends and families, getting out and getting active together, with an element of fun and spontaneity. It’s not a traditional event, in the sense of rigorous training and vying for a PR, but it is a healthy and enjoyable way to spend a Saturday morning.
Are you a color run veteran who can’t wait to participate in your next brilliant race? Have you always wanted to give one a try? Now’s your chance.
From Monday, July 29 through Wednesday, July 31, if you register for ANY Color Me Rad 5K location, enter the code “radfun” and you will receive 20% off your registration fee. There are more than 50 race opportunities remaining in 2013, so don’t miss out!

Awesome! Little man said he wanted to do it, but he will definitely be in if B does it too. I was thinking about letting him “run” in swim goggles. He might think that’s cool.

Uh oh. But what if I instead prefer the fancy artificial colored icing that goes on top of a slice of cake? Surely I am DOOMED!

I’m doing it more and more! I don’t know that I’ll ever be up to a mud run, though. That might be just one step too far 🙂
