It’s been a long, long, long, long, LONG time since I’ve shared a Mother’s Day with my own mom. Prior to moving here, she would make an annual visit, but it never fell around this time of year.
Needless to say, that made Sunday extra special for me.
Mr PugRunner and I planned out what we hoped would be a nice day. Little man spent Saturday night with Nana and Papa Bear (they had been watching him while we were on my birthday trip to Savannah), and we were so excited to see them all.
Even though he had had a very busy few days, little man couldn’t wait to call me to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. The phone rang right around 6:00 AM, and he was ready to chat. I didn’t mind, even if it did take me by surprise. I was able to lounge around in bed for a little while, at least.
However, it was soon time to get up and ready, and before long, little man was home, bearing the most beautiful bouquet of flowers I have ever received and an adorable wreath made out of puzzle pieces.
He chatted about all the fun he had and we drove over to the Casa Monica for our 11:00 brunch reservation at 95 Cordova.
We were seated almost immediately, and mimosas were served. All the mothers were given a flower, as well.
While I’m not the biggest brunch fan (too much food all at once), I did enjoy this one. I picked at lots of little things I love – mini biscuits, fruit, roasted veggies, pasta made to order, shrimp cocktail, anti pas… They also had made to order omelets, waffles, prime rib and pork at the carving station, salmon, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, crab legs, oysters on the half shell, cheeses and a full dessert bar. Everything was delicious and we all enjoyed a nice, leisurely meal.
Afterwards, we ventured out into historic downtown. Mr PugRunner thought it would be nice if we took a carriage ride around town. It was definitely hot, but it was a nice ride, and Nana and Papa Bear got a nice little history lesson about the city.
Then it was time to go home for some mojitos, made with the fresh mint from our garden, and enjoy a joint birthday/Mother’s Day birthday cake.
Even though I make cakes, I don’t really love them. Ice cream, on the other hand? Ice cream is my favorite.
I don’t think I could have asked for a nicer day. Oh, and my mom and I got an awesome surprise! Mr PugRunner and Papa Bear are sending us for a weekend away in Amelia Island! A whole weekend for exploring, poking around little thrift shops, visiting the driftwood beach, seeing the historic sites… and (OMG) Tasty’s Burgers! So freaking exciting!
Thank you to little man, Mr PugRunner and Papa Bear for making such a special day for us. And, of course, thank you to my mom, who I am so happy to be able to call one of my very best friends.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Thank you so much! Old Navy for the win! I am really trying to step out of my comfort zone of jeans and maxi dresses. I was stunned to see the size of my calves when i put on those wedges (in a good way).
