How are you going to celebrate mom this weekend? As a mom (and as someone celebrating a birthday), I’ve surely got some ideas to make it great.
Make The Plans
I don’t know about you, but the one thing I DON’T want to do on Mother’s Day is make decisions. That applies to what we are eating, where we are going, and what needs to be done. Every day is so full of choices, that it would be nice to have a break from that particular labor. When you make the plans for mom, it’s such a great gift.
Plan Ahead
While I believe all gifts and gestures should be appreciated, it’s a terrible feeling to know someone waited til the last minute to think of you. Set your game plan, make the reservations, and if you are giving flowers or gifts, have them in hand before Sunday morning. A little bit of proactivity goes a LONG way.
Encourage Mom To Do Something She Loves
Whether you spend the day together or not, encourage mom to get out there and do what she loves. Maybe it’s a run or a bike ride. Perhaps it’s quiet coffee on the patio. It could even be a few hours of gardening or self care with a trip to the nail salon and book store. Whatever other plans you may have, make sure mom gets a few hours doing something just for her.
Do Something She’s Always Wanted To Do
Has she mentioned a new restaurant or shop? Surprise her with a visit. It’s always fun to do something a little spontaneous, but also something she’s been looking forward to.
Make Her Feel Special
No matter what you do, just make sure she knows she’s special. Everyone’s celebration looks a little different, depending on who they are as people, and how they feel about motherhood and those relationships. In some families, the day is about big gifts and grand gestures. And in others, celebrating mom looks like coffee in bed and a quiet walk.
How are you celebrating, if at all?

I love “do something SHE’s always wanted to do.” It’s nice to ask mom what she wants to do for a change!

Yes! That being said, sometimes moms are very clear about what they want and no one listens. But communication is key.

I’m going out to lunch today!
I want to garden and hike tomorrow if the weather is nice.
