It’s Time For August Runfessions

August 29, 2024      19 Comments

That’s right… August Runfessions are here! School is back in session, and we are settling into what might be fall (not here, but everywhere else). So let’s bare our souls (and soles) and talk about it!

For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…

Let’s Start By Runfessing…

That I didn’t run a race in August. I wanted to, to keep it officially one race per month, but it was too hot and also, I had too many schedule conflicts. It happens. I’ve already doubled up earlier this year, but I’ll do it again in the next months. So for now, just runs near home will have to do.

Next I’ll Runfess…

That I hit the enter button for the Great Balloon Chase in Albuquerque. I have been hesitating because it’s a pricey 5K, and there really isn’t a lot of info or even a well-maintained website for it. Does it seem legit? Yes. But also small and perhaps not run by people who enjoy the internet. I just want to see the balloons while I run.

My Next Runfession Is…

That I still haven’t tried out my new running shoes! They came in but I just haven’t had the right moment to test them out. I’m dog sitting and don’t want to risk them getting drooled on, and additionally, it’s been too rainy and wet. Only dry roads for my new shoes on their first few outings!

I Runfess…

That going back to the gym was hard. Really hard. My shoulders and chest are still pretty sore from Monday, and I really want to quit. Will I? Nope. We’ve had time to navigate the car situation, and we are flat out of excuses.

Finally, I Would Runfess…

That I have already started decorating for Halloween. I feel like once we get into Band-tober, we miss out on so many things, and Halloween is a favorite. I want to enjoy every second of it. An added runfession: I am super excited for the new Beetlejuice sequel! Horror movies aren’t my jam, but Beetlejuice is something I can watch without nightmares!

What do you have to runfess? Excited for Halloween?

I love the combo of running and seeing the balloons! Hope this one pans out for you. OMG Halloween! When we were in VA for college drop-off Halloween was all over the place. In NC as well. But not so much here…yet. Enjoy your favorite spooky season! Returning to the gym is humbling for sure. Glad you went back!

Wow that race sounds fun! It’s in Albuquerque? How cool.
Yes, it’s hard to get back into something when you’ve taken some time off. But good for you for getting back to the the gym. I know that super sore feeling! It’s worth it though.
NEVER too early to start decorating for Halloween!!!

It feels good to be doing it, but it also feels like such a time suck. I wish I could break that mentality.

Ooh that balloon race sounds like something fun and different! It sometimes takes me a while to test new shoes as well. It’s way too hot and humid to think about pumpkins for me

I figure I will be so much happier if I have pumpkins and start planning our fall it will just feel cooler! Or that’s the hope.

That balloon race sounds like so much fun – I’m glad you decided to register!

I don’t blame you on skipping an August race – has to be THE hottest month for running, much less a race.

The balloon views will be worth it. Albuquerque is at altitude so hopefully you’ll have a bit of time to acclimate.

Keep up the strength workouts! It will be worth it!

I did a 10Ktrail race with Barb a few years ago that was part of a balloon fest weekend. It was really neat seeing all the balloons overhead as we ran through the trails and over the dew-laden grass.

I am the same way about new running shoes — I want to keep them looking nice for as long as I can.

I hope the Albuquerque 5k works out — it sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

It was a beautiful morning that turned quickly into a beautiful day. Sundays are hard because they are immediately followed by Mondays, and Mondays are hard.

Lots to catch up on this week! April is chock full of holidays, birthdays, days off, and events, so let’s get to it!

About this morning… I was up and out early to d About this morning…

I was up and out early to drive to Flagler Beach for the #Missionpossible5k.

It was a small, well organized event, with an easy-to-follow course (the last mile was almost exclusively an ocean view), with great shirts and swag.

I was really pleased with my performance, and even more pleased with this beach sunrise. I’ll share more on the #RunnersRundown on Wednesday, so stay tuned!

Where did you run or race this weekend?

So good to stretch the legs today. I was super sore after a @runsmartofficial cross training session last night, and needed to just get out there and let the fresh air work its magic.

What are you up to today? I really need to take a moment with my calendar and get some plans locked into place.

I got to sleep in AND take advantage of some cooler temps. It really didn’t warm up until my last mile and that was just fine.

I feel like this month and next are really just flying by. So much is going on, and I want so badly to enjoy it all, including the crisp, sunny days where we find them!

Happy Monday! I don’t know about you all, but y Happy Monday!

I don’t know about you all, but your girl is TIRED. It is so hard to roll out of bed some mornings. Ugh.

I managed (finally) and banked six miles in some gross humidity. And now it’s time for some self care and then back to work.

Also. We have somehow acquired a pecan tree? Any tips on the growth and care of this would be greatly appreciated!

Just a short walk to start the day and work out some stiffness. Some days, my ankle just doesn’t want to cooperate 🫤

I have been making graphics and content all day for a client, and now I’m about to do hair and makeup for a little event. Wheee!

This week is going to be BUSY! There’s a lot of changes to the regular routines (nails, a digital learning day, after school and weekend programming) and I have a race on Saturday and bocce ball on Sunday!

Who else is ready to dive in?!
