For all the chaos, this week of holiday magic is one of my favorite times of year. I love the lights and the music, and all the joy that comes with it. This was a good week, and I am pretty happy with how everything shook out.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.39 miles, walking
Good morning and Happy Sunday! It honestly didn’t feel much like Sunday at all, but that was no excuse not to get right into it.
That night, A’s jazz band had the opportunity to perform at Nights Of Lights. It was an absolute cluster to get downtown on time for the show, but we managed (even if Mr PugRunner had to drop us off and we had to walk to the gazebo). It was so nice to see them play and bring holiday magic to such a well-traveled area and it made my heart happy.
While they wrapped up, we wandered off to find dinner. We were nervous that everything would be on a huge wait, but we managed to snag spots at the bar at one of our favorite restaurants and enjoyed drinks and appetizers. They also went on the hunt for food so we treated ourselves to desert at our favorite waffles and shake place.
They met up with us and then we started the trek to the car (over 1/2 mile away). It was super windy and cold, and Mr PugRunner treated us all to a ride in a pedicab with an e-bike attached! What a ride!
Monday
- Cardio: 6.51 miles, running
It’s Festivus for the rest of us! And my biggest grievance was that alarm going off! Ugh! Since I wasn’t meeting anyone, it was ok for me to stay in bed a little longer, but I hated feeling so behind when I finally did. The run felt good, though, and I was grateful for that.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 7.23 miles, running + .27 miles walking
Happy Christmas Eve! I’ll be running on my own the next few weeks due to scheduling, but that’s ok. I did a little speedwork session before running some easy miles.
It was a bit of a different Christmas Eve for us. My parents weren’t coming over and A had plans with his girlfriend’s family. It was a very different night, but that was ok. rather than sit at home all night, we went ahead and visited the Deck The Chairs lights exhibit in Jacksonville Beach, until it was time to pick him up. It was very well done this year, and I loved it.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.92 miles, walking
Time for some Merry Miles! Since A is older and not waking up at the crack of dawn, I went out for my own little holiday stroll.
We came home to have breakfast, open gifts, and enjoy the day with family. Everything was super chill and low-key, so not a ton of photos, but everyone agreed it was a lovely Chrismukkah.
Thursday
- Cardio: 3.38 miles, running + walking
Even though the weather was questionable, I wanted to head down to the Marineland beach. There is an amazing coffee truck that is being relocated and I hoped to enjoy one last time before their big move (location tbd). I fought wind and the space rocks, enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
And then I treated myself to this Dawn Patrol sandwich and iced coffee. Yum.
That afternoon, we treated the kids to ice skating and a little shopping spree with some of their holiday gift cards. I think they had a blast.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.71 miles, running + .35 miles, walking
TGIF! I had a great run this morning and was so thankful for every mile.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.78 miles, walking
It was a busy day! I was up before the sun to get in a nice walk.
Part of Mr PugRunner’s Christmas gift was tickets to see the Miami Hurricanes play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando. I’m glad he got to see them twice this year.
We also got to see Meghan!
Thoughts + Goals
So our January plans are already underway and we are going to race in State #13: Mississippi! I am so excited and can’t wait to add another state to the list.
I also have best Damn Race Safety Harbor 10K on the roster for February, and I’m thinking the Gate River Run again in March. From there, I don’t know what’s next!
Want to stay accountable with me? I’m doing January Bingo! I will have all the rules and regulations on my Instagram page on January 1 so get ready to play along!
In Case You Missed It
Last week on the blog:
How was your week in training? Did you have a nice Christmas and/or Hanukkah? Have you started making plans for 2025?

It looks like a very nice holiday for you and your family! We watched the Hurricanes v Cyclones game yesterday–lots of touchdowns in that one! I’m sure it was a lot of fun.
I’ll have to check out the January bingo on your IG! Happy New Year Jenn!

It was exhausting! And meanwhile, I’m over here like wait…. they are going to TOAST AND EAT ONE OF THE POP TART MASCOTS! It was unhinged!
I hope you will play along!

Looks like a great holiday week for you of family and fun. I will check out that bingo!Merry Christmas to you

I know you had the best week as well!

I love the sandman and now I want waffles! Poor Mr. Pug’s Hurricanes. We watched that too and I love the shtick but wow, do they find interesting ways to lose. Will he root for the Giants if Cam Ward is one last year? 😀
Glad you had a good week!
runswithpugs says
“they find interesting ways to lose” is the kindest thing I’ve heard! It was a bit frustrating, but the real show was the Pop Tarts.
I think he would root for Cam Ward, not necessarily the Giants. He’s done that before when a Hurricanes or Jets favorite has moved to another team. He was really happy to watch him play that first half for the last time in the orange and green.

We have had to adjust our holiday schedules as our kids got older — at least now we know we have Christmas morning to ourselves before they come over instead of wondering when they will wake up and if it will be before noon! it sounds like you had a great holiday.
runswithpugs says
It was really lovely!
Jenny says
I watched that game!!! How fun that you were there! I hope Mr. P. wasn’t too bummed about the ending. All the bowl games I watched yesterday were close and exciting.
Your Christmas sounds lovely and your tree is beautiful!!! My daughter also went out with a friend’s family on Christmas Eve, which felt a little weird, but they’re not little kids anymore. Our Boxing Day was a little sketchy and depressing. I think next year we’ll do something fun like you did.
Nice job getting your workouts in!
runswithpugs says
He was really happy to get to see Cam Ward play one more time. And I was just there for the Pop Tarts action. And the Iowa State Marching Band was super entertaining, so that wa fund.
They’re not little kids anymore… gah!
We’ve never really celebrated Boxing Day as such, but apparently, we did it right! I’ll have to remember that for next year.

Looks like you had a nice holiday… and I’m always amazing at how consistent you are with working out and running.
Our weather has made it hard to get out at all – freezing, icy, rain… UGH! I’ll skip a run rather than risk falling…
Speaking of races I should be training for a Feb half, there’s also a March one… not sure beyond that… probably some shorter ones since I’m done with the marathon distance.
Congrats on your new state. I wish I could travel more but the job pretty much limits that… so I stick to NYC and Florida.
runswithpugs says
No ice here at the moment, but I’m with you. No falling please.
We are running out of drivable places. It can be hard for us to get away, especially with A still in school. We try to make it work. I still have to get up to NY.
Debbie says
It sounds like you had a fabulous holiday week, and a bonus that you got to see Meghan! I love that snowman, err sandman. He’s adorable!
runswithpugs says
And I will see her again this weekend! Wheeee!
Melissa says
What a nice week! We had not the best weather where it was snowy and icy – the icy was so slick when I went out this morning I slid down a ways! Nice job staying active with everything going on.
runswithpugs says
Oh no! Be careful out there!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I had to wake up my son this year on Christmas day. I’m sure he would have been snoozing until noon if I didn’t wake him up at 9am! I’ve been staying up late and sleeping in until 9am so I guess I can’t say too much about it. That’s a great picture of your son and his girlfriend in the pedicab!
runswithpugs says
A was reasonable and got up around the same time, but that was ok. We didn’t mind having a quiet and easy day.
They had so much fun that night, and they are so cute together!
Kimberly Hatting says
Looks like you squeezed in a lot of fun holiday fun into your week! That game was intense! I’m glad the Cyclones were able to pull off the win, but it was a little tense in the fourth quarter. Now, let’s hope the Hawks can bring home a win tomorrow!
runswithpugs says
I wish the Canes had won, but they didn’t want it badly enough. What can you do?
Jessie says
What a fun week Jenn! Love all your sunshine at Christmas 🙂 It must be kind of nice having a lower key Christmas compared to chaos of young kids (I’m guessing!)
Happy holidays to you!
runswithpugs says
It’s different for sure! I love all the Christmas magic and the wonder and all that, but A is such a cool kid, so whatever season we are in is just as fun.
