It’s the last Friday of December, 2025, and that means it’s our last time to runfess for the year! How did we get here so fast?

For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
That is has been a bit of a dumpster fire of a year. Honestly, I don’t recommend it. Sure, there were some great things that happened, but also so much trauma and anxiety. I’m usually an incredibly positive person, but I’ve felt a little short on hope this year. Creating good vibes is also pretty draining, when you’re not getting any help from outside factors. Fingers crossed that 2026 is a bit better.

Next, I’ll Runfess…
That I didn’t hit my reading goal this year. Boo. I committed to read 50 books, but I am only at 36 (maybe 37 by the time December 31 rolls around). It’s ok: I read much more than last year, and I am loving it. I really should try to figure out getting a library card, so I can be a little more frugal in my book habits, but we will see how that works out.

I Would Runfess…
That I want to pick a way better word of the year. In January, “persist” was my word, but “persist” bears the connotation of struggle, or something to overcome, and I want something more positively framed this year. I still have a few more days to decide (and letter a sign, accordingly).

My Next Runfession Is…
Even though I started early, I did a very minimal job of decorating for the holidays. For some reason, everything felt very heavy and I just wanted things to be lighter. Something has to be wrong with me lol. Before I put everything away next year, I need to go through the things I didn’t put out to see what I REALLY need and what I can pass along to others.

Finally, I Would Runfess…
That I got some amazing news! My ear is (most likely) ok! The biopsy showed that it wasn’t a squamous cell carcinoma but a very unexpected wart! I guess I’m turning into a witch faster than I thought. The biopsy punch didn’t remove the whole thing, so I’m going back to have it all excised in February. It’s an in-office procedure and they will text it again, just to make sure, but I’m calling it a very lucky day!

Yay good news on your ear! I’m not sure what my word of the year is-but now I’m thinking about it again. Wishing you a strong and happy new year
That is great news on your ear! And a good omen for 2026!
I’ve pared down my holiday decorating, and I’m fine with it. It’s really the tree that brings me joy, and I did get that up!
Oh Jenn, that’s great news about your ear! So glad it wasn’t any sort of skin cancer.
Since I brought in quite a few decorations from my mom’s house this year, I donated eight bags of stuff in November. It took me longer to decorate, but it felt so good purging as I went along.
Great news about your ear!!
I need to purge because I decorate less ad less each year.
Persist is a great word.
I didn’t read as much as I planned or go to the gym as often or run as many miles.
I still go it GOOD. Sometimes success cannot e measured in numbers.
That is great news about your ear! Sorry the year wasn’t the greatest overall. I feel much the same way. Losing our dog in February was such a sucker punch and while work is better, I still feel like I’m recovering from issues that happened in 2024. Here’s to a much better 2026. I need to decide on a word too.
I runfess that this year cannot end fast enough for me. And I hope 2026 will be better in life and running!
All the best for a happy and healthy new year!
