Today, June 3, is a huge holiday for our sport: it’s Global Running Day! This is, obviously, a day for running and runners, and we should celebrate it in as much style as we can. How? I’ve got some ideas!
(Updated from a post originally published June 4, 2024)

Join The NYRR
For 2026, the NYRR is back with their virtual 5K to get the global community moving together. While you can choose to make a donation or upgrade your registration to earn a point towards the NYRR 9+1 program, the virtual run itself is absolutely free. All you have to do is register, run a 5K on your own between now and June 7, and upload your results. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #NYRRVirtualRacing and #GlobalRunningDay on any of your post-run photos on social!

Let’s Go Streaking!
Have you been logging at least a mile every day of June so far? If so, keep that momentum going with our daily streak challenge! All you have to do is keep that daily, uninterrupted mile going from now until the end of June. It’s such a fun way to get your movement in every single day, and honestly, everything is better when you’re part of a group.

Join The New Best Damn Run Club
You already know how much I love Best Damn Race, and their Best Damn Run Club is the perfect place to find your village. Membership is completely free and grants you access to an amazing community of runners. Signing up gets you access to monthly runs and meetups, exclusive race discounts for local events, and monthly giveaways. Plus, you’ll get automatic discounts on Best Damn Race’s famous lineup of events!

Treat Yourself To New Gear
Whenever I’m celebrating, I like to treat myself to a little retail therapy. It’s the perfect excuse to clear out the fitness closet and see what needs a refresh for the warmer miles ahead. Brooks has some gorgeous colorways and styles out for the season right now, so if you’re a fan of the brand, go check out what’s new.

Register For A Race
I never need an excuse to register for a race, but if you do, Global Running Day is the time to do it. Look for something local or make a plan for a racecation. I always recommend a fun event like Best Damn Race, but pick what speaks to you!

Just Run
No matter what you do, just run. All you need is yourself, your sneakers, and an open road, trail, or treadmill. June 3 is the perfect day to start running for the first time, continue with your current training program, or renew your love of the sport. Get out there and enjoy your day!

Happy Global Running Day Eve! I plan to celebrate by running a very short distance (my first since late January) just to say I did.
I hope it’s a great run!
I think I’ll ‘just run’ by taking it to the trails. New gear is always fun tho… hmmmm
I know you want to!
I completely forgot about Global Running Day, thanks for the reminder! I’ll be going out for a run for sure! I’ll have to remember to mention it on Strava.
yes! You have to get out there!
I definitely plan to run. I did sign up for the NYRR race I think.
I mean… I’ll be running anyway. Might as well use the hashtag.
I love doing the virtual 5K every year and appreciate that they have it run on multiple days
I know! It makes it so much easier with scheduling.
Love this round-up — Global Running Day deserves a proper celebration!
I will probably do my last run before my ultra on Sunday – it’s well-timed!
Thanks for the great inspo!
I’m all in on signing up for races and buying shoes. Already did the virtual NYRR 5k.
I have a 10k on June 7 but I will try to run on June 4 too.
I’m definitely running tomorrow! I’ll probably do five miles, but will try to remember to register for the virtual 5K, because why not? 😉 I registered for a local 10K yesterday, which is happening on Saturday. Now I just need to treat myself to some new shoes….
I ran this morning….and might need to treat myself to some new gear today. Happy Global Running Day!
