Florida is going through a big freeze, and it is definitely a time! Personally, I love the idea that we are having actual seasons, but there were a few days this week that were almost too cold to be tolerated. Almost. Will we see snow? Probably not, but we are definitely seeing temperatures in the low 30s and some lovely frost outside. Did it keep me from running? You know it didn’t!
Sunday
- Cardio: 4 miles, walking
Meghan and I got up on the earlier side and headed out for some morning adventures. We were going to walk first and then coffee/breakfast after, but it was still so cold so we reversed our plans. It worked out beautifully. We didn’t have to wait long at the popular restaurant AND the day warmed up enough that the beach miles weren’t painfully cold.
She left for home, and I spent the rest of the day on the couch, doing some extra work and cuddling the pugs. We also bought Wicked so I can watch it at home. I cried again.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.64 miles, running + .97 miles, walking + 20 minutes, stair climber
- Strength: 50 minutes, arms + abs
Happy Monday! I had a busy day ahead, so I dug right in. I had a chilly sunrise run, followed by a long dog walk, and a gym session.
This was probably the last super motivated day of the week I had. Sometimes, winter weather has that effect on me.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.96 miles, running
- Strength: 50 minutes, legs + abs
Things started ok, and I met J for what was supposed to be a nice run. I even did my speedwork before I got to her. However, I had the worst Raynaud’s flare up I’ve had in a long time. Even in gloves, the pain was so bad it took my breath away. I had to bail on her to go get warmed up. So frustrating. Even the pugs were out of sorts over it all.
I still got to the gym, and had a good lower body workout. And then it was more work and an evening meeting.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 5.06 miles, walking
I slept in a little, and then tried out my new running shoes! Check the color on these beauties! (They are the Adrenaline GTS 24, and yes, these are a men’s color way. I couldn’t resist.) Normally, I hate getting my workouts in at midday, but going out in the warmer parts of the day has been helpful.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.56 miles, running
- Strength: 50 minutes, arms + abs
I was supposed to run with J, but it was the coldest morning yet and I could not drag myself out of bed. She was incredibly understanding. I slept in again and headed out way later than normal. I double gloved and the sun helped balance out the frosty air. As you can tell, I really hate wearing leggings, so I power through in shorts.
I was super happy with my gym workout as well. It was good to start the year with three days in the Y, and I hope to continue that trend.
That evening, I hosted a small vision board party with the Breakfast Club. It was a blast, and I loved how all the boards came out. You can read more about the night here.
Friday
- Cardio: 4.56 miles, walking
My motivation was at rock bottom. This time, J begged off, asking for a reschedule until tomorrow, and I was more than happy to do so. I took a late morning walk, literally counting the minutes before I could get back home.
Honestly, I didn’t do much the rest of the day, other than write, and run laundry. They can’t all be productive days.
Saturday
- Cardio: 7.01 miles, running + walking
We got up and out in the cold this morning, and somehow just kept going. Good for us!
And then we spent the afternoon with J and K. As always happens, a few hours turns into the rest of the night, and it was wonderful. We are so grateful for our friends.
Thoughts + Goals
So it was a good week here, even if we were experiencing a big freeze.
I’m back as a Best Damn Race Ambassador for 2025, too! This is super exciting, as I love this race series, and am celebrating 10 years with the team. Code RUNSWITHPUGS saves you 10% on your Best Damn Race registration, so be sure to sign up!
We are heading out to the first race of 2025 this weekend, and I’m pretty excited for it. It’s going to be cold, and I have no idea how to dress for it, but I’ll make it happen! I can’t wait to share all the details of that adventure!

It’s all about perspective as I’m happy to head out for my run in 30F weather, lol! I know those temps are unusually cold for you and it probably feels different than it does here! Hopefully, it will return to normal soon!
Congrats on your ambassadorship!

J just came home from a snowy trip to Vermont, and she determined that the humidity here makes the cold absolutely miserable. I can agree with that for sure. It’s just damp and raw and bites right through you. But yes. It’s warmer here than a lot of places. I just wish it would snow if we are going to have the cold weather.
Deborah Brooks says
Temps are definitely what you are used to. Do you find it its easier to run in cooler temps? It’s kind of exhilerating sometimes!
runswithpugs says
I LOVE the colder weather. Even though it’s still humid, the air is so much thinner and easier to breathe. My ankle does not always appreciate it, but I would rather colder than hot any day of the week.
Debbie says
So sorry to hear about your Raynaud’s flare up. After Monday our temperature didn’t get above freezing until yesterday. Today it’s supposed to warm up to the mid-40’s, and after today’s and tomorrow’s warmup, the highs are only forecasted to be in the 20’s for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, snow and ice doesn’t melt off the trails and sidewalks in those temps.
runswithpugs says
It’s been so cold everywhere! Stay safe. Even if we do get a freeze or ice, it warms up pretty quickly and we go back to business as usual.
Darlene S Cardillo says
I’ve never made a vison board…
Cold there seems warm here. I agree with Wendy. 30 is a warm up.
I forced myself outside with single wind chill digits but couldn’t stay out long.
I have to be working by 8 am so most of my runs have to be at lunch or after work… Lucky you!!
runswithpugs says
It’s rare that I can run mid morning. It’s just too hot and sunny most times of the year. We are having a car issue, so tomorrow, I’m going to have to bite the bullet and just go out early so we can get working on the problem. It’s going to be nippy!
Jenny says
BRR! It got pretty nippy down here as well, but not as cold as where you are. But we were in Tampa for part of the week and it was cold there! I like it for a change, but I can never figure out how to dress. i don’t have Raynaud’s, but when it gets down below 50 I HAVE to wear gloves! I could wear shorts, tank top and gloves, and be perfectly fine.
Good luck with your race!
runswithpugs says
I had to double glove most days this week. And I’m the same. If my hands are warm, the rest of me is fine in tank and shorts.
Thank you! I’m excited for it.
Kimberly Hatting says
Nice week! The colder-than-normal temps are tough, regardless of locale. I had 14mph wind earlier, for my walk, and it was brutal in the already sub-freezing temps. BRRR!
runswithpugs says
We have had some nasty wind here, too. It doesn’t bother me quite as much, but I know you are certainly going through it. Stay warm!
Melissa says
I have Reynauds and cold weather is the worst! And once my toes or fingers are cold, I have such a hard time warming them up. Nice job this week!
runswithpugs says
This was the worst flare up I’ve ever had. I was almost in tears. I ended up microwaving a mug of water, and then just steaming them and holding the cup. Fortunately, I only seem to get it in my hands so there’s that.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
It’s been awhile since I’ve had any Raynaud’s symptoms, but the season has just started! That picture of the pups made me giggle! What cuties. Congrats on 10 years with the Best Damn Races!
runswithpugs says
They are such monsters!
I hope you don’t have any symptoms or that they pass quickly. It’s awful.
Jessie says
I hear you on the humid cold- its a wet cold here too in London! But 30’s is cold for Florida for sure!
