On National Vision Board Day, you should absolutely have the vision board party of your dreams. Vision boards are all about creating a visual plan for the year ahead. It’s a great way to put your dreams down in an illustrative fashion, so you can remind yourself of what you want to accomplish in the days ahead. Lately, I’ve been loving the creative aspect of assembling the board, and I love it even more when I’m surrounded by my people.
Invite Your Guests
You can’t have a party without guests, so don’t forget to invite the people who would love to spend some time creating their visions of the year ahead with you! Invitations can be mailed, digital, or in person. Make sure to include date and time, and any special things guests should bring with them. I planned to supply food, drink, and most of the crafting supplies, but asked my friends if they could help out with some magazines and any extra stickers or markers they might be willing to share.
Gather Your Supplies
This is the perfect time to pull out all those random crafting supplies you have hidden away, and put them to good use. I found a pack of canvases on sale at the craft store, and decided those would be fabulous as the base for our boards. I also snagged one of these vision board clip art books to help with some inspiration. Here’s a list of supplies you might need.
- boards (canvas, foam board, poster board)
- scissors
- markers, pens, paint pens
- stickers
- glue or other adhesive (the glue stick didn’t adhere to the canvas so we ended up with mod podge)
- magazines or clip art books
- washi tape
- embellishments
Time To Decorate
I wanted to set up a pretty space with a little bit of a new year’s theme for our party. For colors, I went with white and metallic pastels, and accented the everything with flowers, candles, and little disco balls. It ended up being lovely, but also gave us a clean, uncluttered area in which to work.
Set Up Your Refreshments
Since this was a weeknight event starting at 7PM, I decided on light bites and drinks. Of course, we had a little grazing board, along with some chips and hummus, and veggies and dip. I also found the yummiest mini cupcakes and cookies at Target, and just had to share them for dessert. For drinks, we had chilled rose and flavored waters. It was quick, and easy, and just enough. I wanted the ladies to be able to nibble, but not have to worry about big plates around their vision boards.
Start Creating!
Once you’re all settled, it’s time to go. We put on a Girl Power playlist and got to work. There aren’t any rules: just cut out the pictures and messaging that speaks to you and your goals and dreams for the new year and add them to your board. There doesn’t have to be any flow or organization… it just has to be meaningful to you. I loved how we all took different directions with our boards, and even more, I loved the conversations (and quiet moments) as we pieced our visions together.
Share The Final Results
It was awesome to see what everyone came up with at the end! The fun part is checking in on your board throughout the year to see how you are coming along with your goals, and how you can make adjustments or get back on track!
Do you make vision boards? What are some things you added to yours?
