I think my title says it all: I’m hungry to see some improvement. Yes, I’m running again after my procedure, but the soreness in my jaw hasn’t gone away, meaning I am having a hard time eating and chewing. I’ve actually started doing some jaw exercises and massages to relieve the situation. Seriously, enough is enough.
Sunday – 4 miles, walking
I was feeling better so took on four miles. I even jumped for joy.
A taught himself how to hydrodip and that took up some time, but I also went for a big nap, as well. I’ve been tired.
Monday – 4.51 miles, hill repeats
I didn’t skip the bridge this week, although I gave myself permission to slack off on my last run uphill. I didn’t want to push to hard and disrupt any work that I had done, and I felt myself clenching my jaw pretty hard. No need for that.
We had a quiet Memorial Day, and spent the evening with some dear friends.
Tuesday – 5 miles, running + .61 miles, walking + dancer arms workout
It was a good run, even if I was very worn out afterwards.
I haven’t been able to do some of my more strenuous strength sessions, but I did find a workout on TikTok from creator @briannajoye_fitness. It’s a combination of lateral extensions, open-closes, push downs, and prayer pulses, with very light weights. It’s harder than it looks but it’s also a little easier to manage right now.
Wednesday – 4.23 miles, walking
Happy Global Running Day! I went out on my own, physically,
but I was with all these incredible women, virtually.
I think most runners are excited to get out and celebrate this one. I ran a little bit of my walk, and was proud to be starting my very first run streak. Since it includes running, jogging, and walking, I feel better about joining in. Day two, done.
That evening, Mr. PugRunner and his friend went to their first concert in forever. The show was at the amphitheater, and tickets were sold in “pods” so they were distanced from others. They loved it and had a great experience.
Thursday – 5 miles, running + .97 miles, walking
Good morning, runners! We went for our normal five miles. Summer is very much here.
Here’s to Day 3 oof the run streak!
After I cleaned up, I joined J and her daughters for a shopping spree. I am not a shopper, and my household doesn’t usually partake in shopping days, so it was a special treat. Though I didn’t go too crazy, I did get some shorts and gear for camp, so it was a productive trip.
That night, the boys went to dinner with Mr PugRunner’s cousin’s husband. I was worn out from the shopping and not-so-great eating, and opted out. I dozed off and actually completely missed a meeting I was supposed to attend. Whoops.
Friday – 3.16 miles, walking + 1.75 miles, hiking + dancer arms workout
I was tired from a long day, but got up early in the morning for a quick walk. Yes, I was in a rush.
We were going hiking! It’s been a minute since we got out to the trails, and even though it was hot and buggy, our group had fun looping through the woods. From here on out, we are probably going to have to start hitting the beaches, instead.
Saturday – 7 miles, running + .76 miles, walking
Long run Saturday! So I wanted to do a long run, but there was just no way I could handle ten miles like last week. It was discouraging, but such is life.
Of course, it was grossly hot and humid, so that wasn’t fun. We did what we could.
In the meantime, A did a service day at his local camp. With Scouts summer camps starting, the Order of the Arrow takes it upon itself to clean up, make repairs, and do maintenance before the campers arrive.
We had one big errand, which was picking up a ring light I won from the new Selfie Museum in Jacksonville. We will be going back in a few weeks to actually take photos and enjoy the experience. I can’t wait.
Goal-getting
I’m giving myself an A for the week. I worked freaking hard, even without feeling great, and I’m super proud of that.
So far, my runs streak is going great, and I am pleased with the little strength workout I’ve been able to incorporate. These are the small victories that make me feel better as I continue recovering and we move into the swampy weather that will be with us for the next few months.
In other news, we have our Hamilton tickets rescheduled for October, and I am so thrilled for theater to be back. I’m also hoping to get tickets for Dear Evan Hansen when those go on sale.
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training?
Have you ventured out to a public event yet?
Renée says
Oh Jenn. I’m so sorry it’s taking longer for your jaw to heal. I really hope it improves super soon!!
runswithpugs says
It’s fine, but it’s frustrating. I want to eat again without worrying about it.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
You definitely deserve an A! I’m living proof you will get better.
A concert in an outdoor amphitheater sounds amazing!
Chocolaterunsjudy recently posted…The one with animals & easy hiking: 5/31 – 6/6 WRD

The guys really loved the show. I’m more of a theater than a concert lover, but we will probably go see a show later this summer.
Deborah Brooks says
Just have to keep moving forward! You have come back from worse. Have a great week and thanks for linking up with us.
runswithpugs says
You are right: I have. And I am so ready to be done with this one!
Kimberly Hatting says
Great week! I hope the healing continues…bummer it’s such a lingering process ;-(
runswithpugs says
I really thought I would be back on track in 48-72 hours. Whoops. Guess not.
Wendy says
I’m so sorry to hear that the healing is taking longer than you expected! Just take your time, running will be here for you!
runswithpugs says
I’m so ready to just eat again. It’s awful not being able to chew. Boo.
Liz Dexter says
Hope you feel better soon with the jaw!
runswithpugs says
Me, too!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Congrats to you on taking on a steak. No way I would run everyday.
Hooray for theater. Even Hansen was awesome.
I need to get to a Broadway show.
runswithpugs says
I can’t wait. I’m excited for Hamilton again, but even more so for Evan Hansen. And In The Heights the movie will be out Wednesday, too.
Michelle D. says
I’m sorry your jaw is still not at 100%. You did a great job getting in so many workouts!
Good luck with your streak!
Coco says
Gosh, I’m sorry you’re still sufferring, but you logged some great miles this week. I need to go shopping this weekend – it will be an odd experience I’m sure!
runswithpugs says
It was so strange to go. It felt so normal, but almost like I didn’t have the right to do something so normal? The one daughter was like “your family doesn’t go on shopping sprees?” and I had to explain that the boys just don’t love it like she and her sister do, so no. I don’t. They will let me tag along whenever, though 🙂
SJ says
Sounds like your doing a great job! I’d give you an A too.
runswithpugs says
Yay! Thank you!
Marcia says
I’m so sorry the recovery from surgery is taking a little longer than expected. Not fun at all. You did great staying active despite not feeling your best.
runswithpugs says
I guess on the plus side, it’s broken my snacking habit.
Stacie Seidman says
So glad you’re recovering so quickly! And I’m super impressed with how quickly you were back out there!
Also, I kind of wish tickets to events would be sold in pods forever. A little space is a nice thing!
runswithpugs says
I know! I am all about extra space.
Kim G says
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that you still have jaw soreness. Hopefully the exercises that you are doing will help – I can only imagine how frustrating this situation can be 🙁
It was fun to run virtually with you on Global Running Day!
runswithpugs says
I determined it would be better if I was able to take ibuprofen, but I’m allergic, so no anti-inflammatories for me. Boo.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I remember how long it took for your tonsillectomy to heal and how miserable you were (not to mention your ankle). Here’s hoping you’re feeling back to normal with this one soon!
I’m sorry I missed the Global Running Day virtual party!
runswithpugs says
Oh my gosh! Remember? That was a mess. I think that was hardest as far as pain was concerned. I thought I would never recover. The leg was bad, but I don’t think that hurt as much as the tonsillectomy. This is just super annoying 🙁
Zenaida Arroyo says
That is awesome on the streak! That is exciting about Hamilton. I miss seeing Broadway musicals and cannot wait for see them again. I know it is a bit different but I am excited to see “In the Heights”.
