Yup. This was it: our last full week of summer. And boy, was it a doozy. I am run down and wiped out from all the last minute activities and things to do!
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.14 miles, walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
While the boys slept in, I got in my morning walk and then picked up donuts.
We had to make sure we had all our last minute school supplies and what not for the week ahead. It’s happening, friends. It’s happening.
Monday
- Cardio: 4.78 miles, running + walking (beach)
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
No beach for me this week. Huge bummer. At 8, I had to drop A at school for his Freshman RoundUp (where the rising 9th graders get a big two hour orientation and tour of the school, courtesy of the upperclassmen.)
A’s friend’s mom picked him up and brought home, and he said it was good. He’s a man of few words.
That evening, he had band camp, and so it was another late night for us. This new schedule is not my favorite.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.97 miles, running + walking
- Strength: biceps circuit
I don’t need to remind anyone that is just terribly, horribly hot. I’m smiling in this photo, but I’m not feeling it in my heart.
Luna had her annual check up at the vet. She hated every second of it, refused to acknowledge the vet (she climbed into my arms and would not cooperate), and started a riot in the back when they took her blood. Beastie. Good news is, everything is great, except she has to take an antibiotic for a little stye on her eyelid.
That evening, we divided and conquered: A went to band and we went to our Scouts committee meeting. It’s crazy that we are all in different directions.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.67 miles, walking
- Strength: shoulder circuit
Another change up: a friend is going through a tough time, so I met her for a walk/vent session. It was nice to spend some time with her, even though the circumstances weren’t the best.
A and I had plans for the day. First we had to take his clarinet in to the shop for adjustments. Of course, it had to be now, right before school, and he’s going to have to deal with a loaner until the first week of September. Ugh.
We made up for it with lunch at The Happy Grilled Cheese
And we picked up a cookie to share at Crumbl. It was our first time visiting, and wow. That place is something.
That night, I had to drop A at karate, so I met Mr PugRunner at the brand new Costco. We’ve been waiting a while for this to open and it was quite the scene. I couldn’t stay and shop because I had an event at the high school to volunteer at, so I trusted him to make good choices and headed out.
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.83 miles, running+ walking
- Strength: 12 surrenders + 100 standing, alternating elbows-to-knees
Are things back to normal yet? Nope. First, a miserably hot and stagnant run.
We had another school thing! This time, parents could attend, so J and I took the kids together. They got their schedules (A is pretty happy with his), walked their classes, and got their lockers.
A had a rare night off, but the school needed volunteers for a district dinner, so he logged his very first volunteer hours at his new high school. Nicely done!
Friday
- Cardio: 4.2 miles, walking
- Strength: bicep session
Early mornings and late nights meant that I was exhausted. I got in that walk, but then I was pretty much done.
I literally pushed off everything and devoured my next book club read. It wasn’t necessarily a good book but I loved how i ended.
Saturday
- Cardio: 9.13 miles, running + walking
Literally the only good thing about this run was the company. Literally. I don’t know how it keeps getting hotter and harder to move.
My parents picked up A and took him for a day of back to school shopping, which was so incredibly generous of them. They had lunch and took him to all his favorite stores. We took advantage of the break to try a new restaurant.
Goal-getting + Thoughts
And here we go. Meet the Teacher is on Tuesday and the first day of school is on Wednesday. A has already completed one class over the summer (it’s a requirement to take an online class, so now that’s done) and he is ready to go.
Am I ready? I don’t know. I guess we’re doing this, ready or not!
I am linking up with the Weekly Rundown, with Confessions of A Mother Runner and Running on the Fly! Check them out!
How was your week in training? Have you read The Housemaid? How’s the weather by you?
Jenny says
Ah, speaking of new schedules… what time does your high school start? Because our HS start time is 7:30 am, UGH! I have one more year of the leisurely middle school start time, and then I’ll be back at it early. Not looking forward to that.
Yes, this is a crazy time for sure! You did a good job of getting your workouts in though. And I always feel like the summer gets worse as it goes along- September will be even hotter. Just sayin.
runswithpugs says
High school stars at 9:20! Our middle school was the 7:30 start and I am going to miss the heck out of that.
September will be a nightmare.
Deborah Brooks says
You all sure packed a ton into your week! Don’t miss all the crazy back to school stuff. Way to get it done this week
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
Coco says
It does sound like a busy week!
I had to check my Kindle — I read “The Maid” recently, but not “The Housemaid”. It wasn’t bad but I’m not sure I’d recommend it.
Glad Luna’s check-up went well. Last time Scooby was at the vet he LOVED the vet tech. I think he and the vet enjoyed a happy patient for a change!
So how did your husband do at Costco? 😉
runswithpugs says
Luna does not care one bit about making the vet or his staff happy. She was ready to revolt.
He did just great. He bought tires the minute he was left unsupervised. Which is fine because we needed them, but he was so proud. he got sausage for my mom (she only likes one kind and Costco sells it), as well as some premade stuff for dinners.
Kimberly Hatting says
We have had Florida-style weather in Iowa for the past few weeks (it did mellow out a bit for a few days, but it all came back with an attitude this past week). I can handle the heat, and usually the humidity, but it’s been pretty beastly even by my standards, LOL.
runswithpugs says
Blech. I am so drained.
Wendy says
Such a busy week–I don’t miss that back-to-school rush! I haven’t tried Crumb yet and judging by your photo, it looks like I need to stay away, lol! I have been to Costco. Once. I know everyone just loves it but it’s not for me. Not a fan of buying things in mass quantities.
Hang in there mama! Your baby is going to do great!
runswithpugs says
Crumbl was fine. It’s very extra and pricey. The cookies are big and pretty, but no better or worse than other cookies.
We don’t shop in bulk often (only three people in our house), but it’s great for office and cleaning supplies, school donations (like big boxes of chips/granola bars/etc), and even premade meals. They have awesome take and bake pizza, chicken salad, taco kits and pasta salad. They are also super great at party platters. Their gas is the cheapest around, when we booked our Disney cruise, we used them as our travel agent (and got $200 in a Costco gift card) and we actually just bought tires for our Pilot from them, which will be put to tomorrow – a few hundred dollars cheaper than other places. We also will take my parents and split things like meat to take advantage of the better pricing.
Marcia says
I’m not ready for back to school either, but Thing 2 is excited so I’ll go with it. We don’t do the school supply thing in high school. A computer and some kind of fancy calculator seem to be the extent of it. Crumbl is ridiculous!
runswithpugs says
I am not excited about the calculator purchase. We got a binder with folders, and some paper and pens/pencils. Nothing major.
Michelle says
Wowza what a busy week. I’m not ready for all the back-to-school shenanigans and thankfully have a couple more weeks to get ready. Great job fitting it all in!
runswithpugs says
I can’t believe it’s happening!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Ah, the back to school crazies! Is that a retro rock shirt or a new concert? It looked like the Monsters of Rock tour that I went to in the 80s 🙂 Our school registration is next week, but marching band has been in full gear. Our band booster group will be a bit more social this year. I’m looking forward to a fun year!
Good job getting your workouts done in the heat!
runswithpugs says
It was a new concert! The boys went with A’s friend and her dad. They didn’t end up staying the whole time due to rain delays, but they had a blast.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
That cookie looks amazing! We have a Crumbl near us, but so far I’ve resisted the temptation to stop.
Good luck to A (and to mama) this week!
Luna, the beast! LOL
runswithpugs says
You would love the pugs. They are characters for sure.
Crumbl is good for a rare treat. I don’t love cookies so they were good but not omg amazing.
Liz Dexter says
But what did Mr Pugs buy at Costco? We have one and a friend has a card but I haven’t been for aaaaages. We always buy something stupid like more just-add-water couscous than it’s humanly possible to consume by the best by date!
We have another month with the schools off here, it’s funny how different it is.
runswithpugs says
TIRES! We got some baked goods, meat, premade dinners, and that sort of thing.
Stacie Seidman says
Awwww, best of luck to A at high school this year! They have so many pre school events scheduled! That’s crazy! But kind of nice I’m sure to be able to get that time to figure things out.
runswithpugs says
It definitely make the first day run more smoothly!
Darlene Cardillo says
Good luck for the new school year. A grew up fast.
Hope things go smoothly for both of you.
No Crumbi here. Maybe that’s a good thing.
