May is our month of absolute chaos. There is so much happening, and while it’s all good things (mostly), it does wreak havoc on our schedules.

I went to the doctor. As I’m sure I’ve mentioned, I don’t really have a physician. I only go when something is wrong (ENT for tonsils, orthopedic surgeon for my breaks, etc). After Mr. PugRunner’s “incident”, I decided I needed to get checked out, just in case. I found a doctor, scheduled myself, and went in on Monday. And I do really like her. They seemed perplexed that I wasn’t there because anything was “wrong” with me, and they scheduled a full physical for two weeks from now (which will include a breast exam, PAP smear, and referral for a coloscopy, eliminating that terrifying need for me to make any phone calls).
We also talked a lot about my anxiety, so we can start a path of doing something about it. Of course, we agreed that getting some baby goats would be a step in the right direction, but we have some other things to consider as well. On a positive note, my blood pressure was “perfect” (and that’s with me being in full panic mode for being at the doctor), so I immediately felt better.

Sweet A turned 15! I can’t believe it! I felt bad because it was such a hectic birthday weekend: he started with volunteering for his band, and then went camping. We surprised him with a cookie cake while he was on his campout, to make things a little more special (with the help of my parents and some of the parents at camp), and then we went out to dinner on Sunday. In a few weeks, he will go fishing with some buddies. It’s such a far cry from the big parties when he was little, but he seemed to have a great time.

It is my birthday on Tuesday (and Darlene’s, too!). I’ve been very low-key about the whole thing, but we did go out with friends this past weekend, and that was so nice and much-needed. We did a distillery tour, where I tried the most unique drink with whiskey, honey mustard and a salt and pepper garnish. Sounds terrible, but it was quite yummy! And then we tried another place that served cava and alcohol-free cocktails. Yay for new things!

I am super excited about trying a new race next weekend. I am not going to be able to do my regular Spud Run, which was a bummer, but it just opened a new door. This race is in a part of town I usually don’t go, so it will be fun to try. Plus, it supports our largest local breast cancer charity!

I am so sad that this freshman year is coming to an end. A has really flourished in high school, and it was such a great comeback from middle school. I don’t know what the future holds for our schools right now, so I’m just holding on as long as I can.
What would you tell me over coffee?

Great job going to the doctor! I wish I had perfect BP — it is at home, but I suffer from white coat syndrome. Really sounds like you found a great one!
May isn’t too bad for me. I think all you mammas are the ones that really have the hectic Mays! Good luck!

I am glad that you went to the Dr. It is so important to stay on top of regular screenings and physicals. May is always a hectic month over here as well but all good things! Have a really happy birthday!

Glad you got your physical and screenings planned.
A’s birthday weekend sounded like a blast to me. A lot of fun things he loves to do.
Happy Birthday! I hope it’s a great year ahead!
Michelle says
Way to go for getting to the doctor and getting all of your screenings scheduled.
I know what you mean about having a crazy May – it’s always a nutty month. I hope things go smoothly for you.
Happy Birthday to both you and A!

I’m so glad that you are taking care of yourself!! Didn’t it feel great to take charge of your health? You got this, my friend.

It feels good to have all those “doctor visits” outta the way. Speaking of schools…I’m SO glad my kids are out of the system in my town. Our superintendent (she’s been here about five years, I think) has an ego the size of Jupiter, and has ticked off so many parents, staff, teachers and administrators. Everyone on the School Board is afraid of her. We’ve lost three principals (just this spring) and a lot of teachers are leaving. It’s a major train wreck.

Ooh, a birthday and a fun race coming up! I hope the whole week is a good one for you.
I know… time is passing so quickly. I’m glad your son is enjoying high school, but it goes so quickly for us- I just want to hang onto every day now. The important thing is he’s busy and happy! Sophomore year is a good one.

Sounds like a lot to celebrate this month! And happy early birthday sweet lady!

So happy and proud of you for going to the doctor! I know that in itself can be anxiety inducing but it is so important to know how things are going!
Happy birthday to A – it’s really incredible to me that his is 15 now!! 15!!! and almost done with freshman year! CRAY!!
Glad you also got a chance to go out and try a few new things!

Glad to hear your son’s freshman year went well. Time sure flies by! Good for you for making that doctor’s appointment. They’re no fun but definitely important.

Aww, yay! Good that you’ve established care with a physician! :] Bless you for making that a single visit — she was probably perplexed because our “establish care” visits are usually that along with “this is a list of the 15+ things that have been bothering me for the last 10 years and I’d like you to address all of them today.” :[ I always wish I had more time per visit so I could address everything, but with most health care models, it’s impossible to do that without running super super late!
I hope you had fun at your race!! :]
