And now, we have runfessed seven times so far this year. That’s more than 50% of 2024 and we are halfway through. Of course, with every month, there are more ways to bare our souls (and soles). Let’s dive in!
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
That item humidity has me beat. The air is just so thick and suffocating… it makes it hard to do anything. Furthermore, I don’t WANT to do anything. I hate feeling unmotivated. Fortunately, I’m on Team Fake It Til You Make It, so I am lacing up every day, whether I want to or not.
Next, I’ll Runfess…
That this month was pretty hard all the way around. Between regular life, milestones, family illness, terrifying weather, and travel, I feel a bit run ragged. I’m not sure I see much of a light at the end of the tunnel, but I have to try.
My Next Runfession Is…
A having his license is both amazing and terrifying all at once. I’m getting better about my anxiety every time he leaves the house (and I’m so proud of myself for working through it on my own), but it’s been a lot. That being said, he’s doing such a great job and being super responsible. Fingers crossed it continues.
I Runfess…
That is was hard getting my butt back in the gym after a two week hiatus. A lot of the weight machines are currently out of use: the gym says that they will be doing a huge overhaul and replacing a lot of equipment between August and September. In the meantime, I’m having to make do with switching things up. That means I’m back on the scary leg press (the one where you push up), vs the seated leg press.
Finally, I’ll Runfess…
That I am going to be a poll worker in the upcoming election cycle again! I missed the last midterm election but I’m all in for our August and November runs. It’s going to be challenging with my schedule, but I think I have it all figured out. Will there be super early mornings to make sure I get my miles before I had to the polling location? You know it!
What do you have to runfess this month?

Thing 2 has been driving for just about 3 years now and I can tell you that while the anxiety never totally goes away, it does get a lot better! Not having to drive her everywhere has been amazing though! Good for you for working the polls again. This will be one helluvan election year!
runswithpugs says
Truth. I was taking him to work because K wasn’t home yet with the other car, and he pulled up just as we were leaving the driveway. I was like “SWITCH!” because I don’t want to pick him up!
It will be a hellvan election year. They asked me to be a clerk this year (like the supervisor) and I was like NOPE NOPE NOPE AND NOPE! I do NOT want the burden and anxiety of all that, thank you.
Coco says
Getting used to your kids driving is hard! I still don’t like being a passenger when they drive.
I’m putting in my paperwork to be a poll worker — I hope it works out!
runswithpugs says
Oh. I am NEVER a passenger. I can barely be a passenger when my husband drives.
Will this be your first time? I really hope it’s a great experience for you!
Jenny says
Jenn, I still get anxious when my son drives somewhere and he’s 21!!! Of course I have to remind myself that he drives every day while he’s away at school and I don’t even think about it- but somehow when he’s living in my house, I worry!
Thank you for being a poll worker! I know it’s a big time commitment.
And… yes, it really wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the humidity. Ugh.
runswithpugs says
I don’t know how A will go away to school! I can’t take it! Just kidding. Of course he will go where he wants, and I will be fine, but sheesh.
It’s a commitment for sure, but it’s important. Once again, I was the youngest person in the room by a lot. We need to do this.
Deborah Brooks says
I still worry about my kids driving and they are 10 years older than yours! I feel you on the humidity-it’s kind of soul sucking. We can make it!
runswithpugs says
I used to laugh about my mom always asking me to let her know when I came and went, but it all makes sense now.
We will get there for sure.
Kimberly Hatting says
Ahh, the joys of parenthood. We never stop wondering (and worrying) about our kids’ wellbeing and safety. This morning’s humidity was crazy heavy, and the temps were “only” in the low 70’s.
runswithpugs says
Even on the “cooler” days, it still feels awful.
The worrying is just too much!
Erica @ erica finds says
Humidity is so tough. Just keep moving!
Thank you for volunteering at the polls! It’s so important.
runswithpugs says
I’m moving but I’m sweating profusely!
I do get paid to work the polls. It’s not great money, but we aren’t volunteers in my area.
Darlene S Cardillo says
That’s great that you are working the polls. I would if I can but I work full-time.
Humidity is so hard… much worse that heat.
runswithpugs says
Since my schedule is flexible, I feel a little more motivated to do it. I hate humidity.
