The week started with Mother’s Day and ended with a pool party, and I really can’t think of a better way to do things. In between was a whole mess of nonsense, but I guess we can happily put it all in the rearview and keep pushing through what will be the last week of school. Let’s get to it!
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.52 miles, walking
Yes, I got some extra sleep before I had to get up and out for our Mother’s Day festivities. The boys surprised me with flowers, coffee and donuts. Yay!
We got cleaned up and met my parents for a lovely brunch at a new to them restaurant. It ended up being a pretty nice hit.
I absolutely took a nap and enjoyed a dinner that the boys cooked. It was a really lovely day.
Monday
- Cardio: 5.09 miles, running + .62 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
Back to running and back to the gym! I was glad to make my return, even if the workout felt a little extra challenging.
Nothing super fun to report. Mondays are Mondays, right?
Tuesday
- Cardio: 5.63 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Keep on swimming! At least that’s what it felt like with the humidity. We did NOT manage to outrun the storm, however. Fortunately, we were close enough to my house that I was able to give J a ride home before the lightning kicked in. No fun.
I powered through a solid leg workout and then threw myself into catching up on some design work. When the creativity hits, I go with it. Toss in a night meeting and I was ready to be done with the day.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4 miles, running + walking; Cardio Dance Fit, 1 hour
Tried a little something new today. First, J and I met up for a run/walk.
Then I joined her at the Y for a Cardio Dance Fit class. It was great because I’m obsessed with line dancing lately, and so it was a way to get that movement in. It was terrible because there were (optional) burpees. I did two. Why? I felt pressured.
A had his last day of Spring mini camp. From what I understand, the band sounds amazing.
But the highlight of the day was a Media Sunset Cruise with Florida Water Tours! It was absolutely fabulous, and we enjoyed the salty air, mini charcuterie boxes, wine, and a glorious sunset.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.85 miles, running
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
I was hurting, but I got up and after it.
And there were more festivities ahead!
Mr PugRunner and I went to the Yelp High Stakes Soiree at the Jacksonville Public Library. It was an incredible opportunity to get dressed up and enjoy food, drink, music, and performances.
(For those keeping track, this is the first time I’ve worn heels since I fell, four years ago.)
Friday
- Cardio: Alter Ego Virtual Ambassador Race (3.1 miles), 2.78 miles, running
Some days just don’t work out. The original plan was to run the Alter Ego Virtual Ambassador Run with 10 miles. But then summer showed up and I spent a lot of time at events, and dropped myself down to a 5K. I also intended to attend a meetup, but we had some things going on at home that I didn’t want to leave. It wasn’t what I wanted, but it’s what went down.
Saturday
- Cardio – 3.8 miles, walking
I had to get up and moving, even though I would have preferred to hide in bed all day. It happens.
I packed my bags and got my butt on the road to Meghan’s new house! Wheee! Time for fun and pool parties!
Thoughts + Goals
So I have a 5K coming up at the end of the month, and THEN I have a 5K in state #11 coming up this summer. Anyone care to guess where???
Feeling a bit down right now. I imagine it’s a bit of summer slump. This is the last week of school, and of course it wouldn’t be a week without the drama, you know? We will get through it, but gosh, sometimes I wish it was easier.
How was your week in training? Do you struggle with fitness on weeks with lots of events? How do you bounce back from a disappointing effort?

What a busy week! That boat tour looks so nice. And lots of good workouts too!
I have no idea where you’re going next! Somewhere north, I’d imagine!
runswithpugs says
Technically, yes! We will be going more north, although I won’t call it actual north. And the boat was amazing. So fun!
Deborah Brooks says
Wow you did have a busy week! I’m learning to give myself some slack and do what I can on busy weeks. Life is short and it’s meant for living and being happy. Not always easy but that’s my intention lately. Can’t wait to see where you go next!
runswithpugs says
That’s a great intention! I can’t wait to share! It’s going to be so fun!

I certainly hope your 5K is somewhere like Alaska. “Keep on Swimming” is a great mantra for running in the Florida humidity- I’m going to remember that and use it. Seriously, it’s been even hotter than usual down here, and I’m scared for the rest of the summer! But I’m looking forward to the end of school.
You had a really busy week- I would be absolutely exhausted with all those activities! Nice job of keeping up your workouts though.
runswithpugs says
Ok, it is NOT Alaska, but it’s on my list. It’s going to be a nasty summer, and apparently, we will have a nasty hurricane season too!
Melissa says
Another busy week for you!! Same here. Good job keeping up with it all, and even getting in some activity. Kudos to you on a good week and keeping active with the weather you have! I was hot during 70 degrees for my race today 🙂
runswithpugs says
I wish we had just 70! It’s been wretched!
Susanne says
You have a lot going on! Well done getting all those workouts in! I very easily get out of routine when I’m busy. I always go to the gym, but everything else is totally out of whack recently. Perhaps I just needed to slow down a little. At least now with the arrival of summer, proper walking is finally happening.
I hope you’ll feel better soon!
runswithpugs says
I’m getting there!
Debbie says
Oh I love your dress that you wore to the Yelp Soiree. I hardly ever get that dressed up anymore so I love looking at other people’s dressy pictures.
I have no idea where you might be headed next. Have you run a race in Virginia yet? If so, which?
runswithpugs says
Thank you! We don’t ever get THIS dressed up. I love it.
I have run in Virginia: the Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Sorry about the drama. Wearing heels again? I would imagine that was weird/nerve wracking/exciting all in one! Buckle in tight for the final stretch of school. It’s always a crazy time!! (and I miss it!)
Kimberly Hatting says
All that busyness is what keeps us young 🙂 (at least that’s my mantra). I’m gonna throw out Nashville as a guess as to where you headed next!
Darlene S Cardillo says
What a busy week. Don’t knowhow you do it all.
You look amazing – heels are scary. LOl
That boat ride looked so fun
Jessie says
Wow, what a busy week! Lots of events! All look like fun though. And how lovely how your family treated you for Mother’s Day!
