We are two weeks into summer, and things are going fine. There was a bit of a bumpy start, but we are past it and moving on to more exciting things!
After reading here, head on over to visit Coco and Deborah, our awesome link-up hosts.
Over Coffee, I Would Tell You…
That I am streaking again! From June 1 – 30, I am teaming up with the #streakingwiththeCOOLKIDS initiative, where I run/walk/jog ONE dedicated mile per day. This is my fourth year of attempting the challenge, and while I had a great streak going, I am currently tacking on to my current total of 171 days, which restarted this past December. I really like this challenge, because I do walk daily, so it’s motivating to keep getting out there.
I would also share…
That I am so ready to be back at the beach for some salty air and Vitamin Sea. Yes, it’s hot out there but I am motivating myself with the promise of sunrises and iced coffees, and even time spent with friends. It works.
With Coffee In Hand, I Would Tell You…
That my June social calendar is FULL and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Yes, my social battery is going to take a beating, but that’s ok. When fun things are on the horizon, I can keep it going. What’s up? A little bit of travel, a rainbow run, a glow party, and so much more!
If We Were Having Coffee, I Would Share…
That we went on our very first college tour to UCF. It was an absolutely gorgeous campus, and we all really, really liked it. While there is a great music school, there are also so many other options, in the event A changes his mind on what he wants to do with his life. I also loved all the things to do and resources available for the students. He will be checking out another campus when he attends overnight band camp later this month, and I am excited to see how the two compare in his mind.
I’m Going To Need Two Coffees For This Next One…
Yesterday, A completed the Safe Teen Driver Course. Which means he will be testing for his license next week. I’m not ready! We’re not in a huge rush because we will be sharing cars for the foreseeable future, but he is well past ready and I’m excited for him!
What would you tell me over coffee? Any tips for being the parent of a new driver?

I was amazed at how easy it was “letting go” when our oldest got her license. I think it took, maybe, two days and I was at ease with everything. 🙂 I’d love some ocean beach time, but no can do in Iowa …

Drivers here are SO BAD. Like the interstate is straight up terrifying. The speed limit is a suggestion (like if you’re not going 80 in a 55, people honestly believe you are the problem), and it just scares me so much.
Iowa is landlocked for sure.
Farrah says
Ooo, that sounds like a good challenge (that I should also do…). That’s awesome that you have a 171 day streak!
I wish I had tips for you but only have the other perspective where my parents did not let me drive until I graduated from college, haha. :[ The not having to be driven everywhere will be nice?! :D?
runswithpugs says
I didn’t get my license til 17, which was a month before I graduated high school in NJ. Then I went straight to college, where I wasn’t allowed to have a car, so I’m with you. I learned to drive in NJ, but I effectively started driving in the heart of Miami, which was a whole different experience. I kind of prefer city driving because there are lots of lights and the speed limit is never too high. Where we live, it’s more interstate and high speed.
Deborah Brooks says
Congrats to you son! It’s a good step towards independence. It’s nice that your social calendar is so full! It seems to bring you much joy.
runswithpugs says
I do enjoy getting to do things. Peopling can be exhausting sometimes, but I am learning to manage it.
Michelle says
Congrats on soon having another driver in the house! It’s a little nerve-wracking at first but I quickly came to love my boys having their licenses and being able to drive themselves places.
How exciting to make your fist college visit!
runswithpugs says
I just can’t imagine it. Friday should be the day.
Marcia says
All the best to A as he takes to the road! Hang in there mama! It is a huge milestone for sure. We have a couple of friends who committed to UCF. One plays the trumpet and will be there for music. The college selection process so exciting! Enjoy that Vitamin Sea!
runswithpugs says
I’m excited and nervous. Whatever he does will be amazing, but his journey is very different from mine, so I have to disentangle those feelings to ensure he has his best adventure. I think I’m doing well with it.
Darlene S Cardillo says
You are one busy lady.
I will never be a streaker. But I do try to either workout or run each day. The work does often get in the way. Boo.
Congrats to A. He’s definitely growing up.
runswithpugs says
I am grateful for flexible work that I can do the things I want to do in addition to the things I need to do.
He really is.
Debbie says
Sounds like you’ve got a fun month ahead! Take a deep breath and enjoy!
Congrats to A on getting a step closer to getting his license. It will make your life so much easier when he can drive himself to school, practices, and work.
runswithpugs says
We will see. It’s kind of weird not to feel needed!
Coco says
Yeah, those first driving lessons … 😉
I’ve got a busy month with work — I’m looking forward to my vacation in July.
runswithpugs says
Honestly, he’s a good driver. A little sketchy on the right on red thing, but he will get there.
Our vacation is in July, too! I hope we both have a blast!
Renée says
I’m still streaking myself! But I guess not with the cool kids – LOL!
I was just in Malaga recently for sun and sea, but man, I just want to move there. I want to live by the sea, it does so much for my mental health and well being!
Your June Social situation sounds great! I’m trying to take it easy but also see friends and get stuff done in the house. We have a wedding to go to in England next week and I am BEYOND EXCITED!!
College touring and driving! The speed at which time is passing is just insane! I’m excited for him but hope mom can keep her nerves from being shredded (I rade in the car with my stepson and while he’s a great driver, the whole concept was just blowing my mind!!)
runswithpugs says
Malaga sounds incredible!
Nerves are already shot (it’s me, not him), but it is an exciting time for sure.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I can’t believe your son is looking at college already. And he will be driving soon? Wow! Where has the time gone by? That is exciting about the fun things planned this month. Yay!
runswithpugs says
You got me. It’s crazy how quickly this time is going.
