As we wrap up the month, it’s time for that favorite moment: June Runfessions, the baring of our soles (or souls). May seemed to go so quickly, while June is flying (she’s not over yet!). We are ready to share what’s on our minds!
For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
That I have not checked my data, but I am walking so much more than running right now. Sure, I start off running, but it’s just so hot and so miserable and I start feeling terrible. It’s not worth making myself ill from the heat, so I just slow it on down, but it’s discouraging. I know my consistency is what matters most, so I just keep on pushing on.
Next, I’ll Runfess…
That I started my sourdough journey, and it’s going well! Doughlene is growing beautifully, and I’ve made crackers, a loaf of bread, and brownies, so far. I’ve been very nervous about everything, but I finally just dug in and made it up. Was I influenced by Tik Tok? Absolutely! But it worked out.
My Next Runfession Is…
That I am, more than ever, skipping our town’s 4th of July races. It’s just miserable out. Despite how much I love our race community, I don’t want any part of this.
I Runfess…
That the gym still hasn’t made a full return. Right now, I’m pretty grateful for twice a week. I really thought that summer would mean way more spare time, but it’s been a challenge to fit things in. Sure, I’m frustrated, but there are only so many hours in the day.
Finally, I Would Runfess…
That I went to the grand opening of a new running store and I was absolutely stunned by the prices! Sure, running shoes and gear are pricey, but I was really stunned by the price of things like inserts, and certain accessories. While it’s great to have a new store locally, I’m going to have to adjust my expectations! The store itself is great, with a lovely staff… it’s just been a while since I shopped in an actual store. Online shopping has me spoiled!
What do you have to runfess this month?

I feel for you. It’s hot and muggy here and I bet it would be a welcome break from what you are experiencing. you are out there. it doesn’t matter if you aren’t running all the miles. I totally understand why you would want to skip the race as well.
Doughlene? hahahaha LOVE IT. I have so many recipes saved on tiktok… maybe I’ll do something with them one day…
I also thought I’d be consistently going to the gym by now, but, nope. Try not to be too frustrated. You already do a LOT.
Shoe prices are INSANE. I just try to pretend I’m independantly wealthy when I need a new pair of shoes. But honestly, if I think about it too long I wonder if I would still have this “hobby” (OF COURSE I WOULD).

I mean. I don’t spend money on luxury items, so I feel like I can buy shoes when I want/need. And we have to keep my bionic ankle happy!
Doughlene does make me laugh.
Darlene S Cardillo says
I haven’t bought a new pair of shoes in awhile… so expensive.
My gym attendance has waned… I did go today.
I do the same.. I go out to run and if I’m alone, it’s so easy to lapse into a walk… we’re still out there being active.
runswithpugs says
You are correct. Movement is movement.

See if your running store has a rewards program. Mine does and it adds up if you buy a few pairs of shoes. They also have good sales sometimes. Also running events sometimes come with freebies and brand raffles or giveaways (or at least refreshments).

They do all have rewards, but I don’t buy a lot of things, so it doesn’t always add up quickly for me. All the good running events are in the evening, which doesn’t work with my schedule either. It’s frustrating, but it’s ok. I am lucky to get my socks comped, and great discounts on other things, so I make it work. I was just surprised.

Nice work on your sourdough adventure! I had no idea you could make brownies with it.
I domn’t blame you taking a pass on your 4th of July race. The heat and humidity have been rough – and I’m sure you have it worse in FL than we do up here.
runswithpugs says
I had no idea either! And they tasted lovely!

OMG, I love Doughlene! Those brownies look amazing. Your bread is beautiful!
A few gym visits a week is good! You can’t do it all.
I buy shoes at my local running store but everything else on line.
runswithpugs says
I have to get another loaf started!

I’m bailing on a 4th of July race as well, but walking in a parade instead. Not any FOMO, which is surprising (?)…

I hope it’s wonderful!
