And so here we are, the week after 4th of July. We are really cruising through this summer thing. School is back in session in about a month… and would you believe, we still don’t have end of year report cards for our high schoolers? Allegedly, they are publishing Tuesday, but I guess we shall see.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.77 miles, walking
Day 30 of the #StreakingWithTheCOOLKIDS Challenge done and dusted! I am so happy to have another challenge completed, and plan to continue as long as I can.
The day was pretty busy. A had a long work shift and I went up to see my parents at the hospital. I also ran practically every errand on my list. It was good to get it all done.
Monday
- Cardio: 4.33 miles, running + 2.8 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
I got up early to catch the sunrise. Again, it was a busy day, so I just wanted to start moving through everything.
Mr. PugRunner got home from his Ft. Lauderdale adventure around 7 (he went down south to see the Stanley Cup celebration parade for the Florida Panthers and then meet with some clients), and I was super happy to turn all responsibilities over to him. I was exhausted, body and mind.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.37 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
J was back from her vacation, and we finally met up for some running. It was super hot and humid, but it was good to hang out with her.
I also hit the gym for leg day. Some of the machine were broken so it wasn’t a super productive workout, but I wasn’t feeling it anyway. Sigh.
Off to the herb farm to pick up some pollinators for the garden. I want to help our vegetables grow, and this seems the way to do it. That being said, I think I’m allergic to something I bought. Every time I go outside, my eyes start itching and I start sneezing. Oops.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.05 miles, running + walking
I treated myself to a beach morning. Even though I had to get up early, I was fortunate to get some sunrise and beautiful views.
Plus, I had this amazing breakfast!
The rest of the day was insane. A’s 4th of July boating plans moved suddenly to today because of the threat of bad weather. We had to scramble with the cars and the timing to make it all happen, but we did it!
Thursday
- Cardio
Happy 4th of July? I took a pass on my regular race, and just ran with J instead.
And then, we just sort of… did our thing. Of course, we had a themed meal, but we were on call for my parents as they got my stepdad established
Friday
- Cardio
TGIF! At long last. Of course, the day started with movement.
A had work, and then we dropped him off with my mom. He was going to keep her company and help her out through the weekend. He’s an angel like that.
Saturday
- Cardio
I got up early so we could get on the road. We had originally planned to be at an event this weekend, but plans fell through and we still had the hotel room, so…
Thoughts + Goals
Sometimes, things just don’t go as planned. And this is one of those weeks. I was hopeful to be a lot more productive, but instead, I got in my own head.
Meh.
The 4th of July wasn’t anything big. A had plans, and I’m super happy he got to have fun.
Since I skipped the 4th of July race, I’m really looking forward to my 5K on Saturday. I am debating walking it with Mr PugRunner. It’s going to be super hot and I am in it for the experience.
How was your week in training? Anyone else have just a crazy week? What are you doing for the 4th?

Nice job on the streak! I love your beach photos–that sunrise is beautiful!! We didn’t do anything special for the 4th either–I worked all week including Saturday, so that was that.

The beach has been keeping me together, despite the sharks and the riptides. I’ve really needed the salt air to make me feel at peace.
Jenny says
Our 4th sounds like yours- I basically did nothing, other than make a 4th of July-ish dinner. And I also didn’t run a race (note to self- next year RUN A RACE. It just doesn’t feel like the 4th without a 5k.)
You have a lot going on with your stepdad. Glad you were able to have a beach morning, and a weekend getaway, That Jojo’s shake looks insane!!!

While I wasn’t super up for celebrating the day, I also didn’t like not celebrating the day. Sigh. I can’t be pleased. It’s bee rough with everything going on. He’s ok, just working through all the PT and OT. He’s doing great and we are so grateful for that.
Debbie says
Tell me about those pollinators for the garden you recently purchased. My perennial garden is a mix of flowers that butterflies and bees love, but deer don’t. Just curious if they’re similar or totally different.
Our Independence Day was pretty typical of recent years; although, I biked instead of running a race (like the the last four years). We had a fajita themed block party, though, rather than traditional burgers and hotdogs. It was awesome!
runswithpugs says
I got milkweed, blue salvia, blue basil, roselle, and one other thing I can’t remember. We don’t have deer in the yard, so I don’t have to worry about them. The lady at the herb farm assured me that this would get me some bees and butterflies, so we will see.
I would be so down for a fajita block party. Sounds so magical.

Oh man, that breakfast sounds (and looks) delish! Is that avocado toast? YUm. And is that a shake from Jojo’s? What’s all the stuff on there? Congrats on getting in some good workouts, keep up your streak and get it all in even with all you have going on.
runswithpugs says
Yes. It was avocado toast with brussels sprouts. So delicious. And yes! It was a vanilla shake with Reese’s Pieces on the rim and in the shake, dressed with a white chocolate boxing glove, peanut butter cookie, and chocolate and peanut dipped marshmallow. So good.
Deborah Brooks says
Great job on your streak You logged a lot of miles this week too!
runswithpugs says
I tried to. One of the mornings ended up being a vent sesh, so it ran way long.
Susanne says
Good work with finishing the streak!
I’m confused about buying pollinators. In my world, pollinators are bees and hoverflies! What is it I don’t know?
Sounds like a relaxing 4th of July. Your sunrise run looks so beautiful!
I had a good week particularly with walking. My comeback to long walks is real!
runswithpugs says
Yes… But we have to plant the flowers to attract them. Where I live, the neighborhoods are all fairly new, and it’s hot, so we have to create the ambiance for the pollinators to want to come.
Kimberly Hatting says
Nice job with the Streak 😉 My 4th of July was very nontraditional in comparison to years past, but it still was a nice day. I had a lot of fireworks (on the 3rd and 4th) right outside my backyard, so I may be the hostess with the mostess next year, LOL.
runswithpugs says
I think I”m going to throw a summerween or Christmas in July party to make up for it.
Coco says
That sunrise behind you in the first photo is gorgeous!
Sometime family things take precedence over holidays — and Pinterest. 😉
That’s quite a shake you’ve got there!
runswithpugs says
It was a really good, really necessary shake. We shared it and didn’t finish it.
San says
Oh that beach morning sunrise run + breakfast looks perfect 🙂 I am only a tiny bit jealous. We didn’t really do anything for the 4th – it was so freakin’ hot here.
runswithpugs says
The heat was a factor, too, but not as bad as the storms. Yuck.
Darlene S Cardillo says
Congrats on the streak
All weeks seem busy but we do what we can.
I did run a race on July 4th… it was hot but not as hot as Fla
and I have another on Sat… I really should be dong a long run but hey this is more fun.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Did you figure out what plant is causing the issues? We have a bee house next to our garden, but my garden looks anemic compared to my Mom’s garden. Maybe I planted ours too late.
Sounds like a lot of time was spent being a caretaker lately. Hope all is going well!
Good job on the streak!
runswithpugs says
I think it’s just heat. And misery lol.
