We all heard the rumors that this hurricane season would be an active one, and the storms are definitely kicking up. While we haven’t had anything official yet, rain and lightning have been major factors in the week. It’s always something! How was the week? Let’s check it out.
Sunday
- Cardio: 5.2 miles, walking
It was so lovely having everyone home. I walked to celebrate.
We had a Celebration of Life to attend for a neighbor who passed away a few weeks ago. It was small, but lovely.
And I made my first sourdough recipe: discard crackers! These have Mrs. Dash Everything Bagel seasoning, because someone in the house has to be mindful of their salt intake, but I think they would be absolutely perfect with the regular Everything But The Bagel seasoning.
Monday
- Cardio: 4 miles, running + 3.03 miles, walking
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
We just can’t shake the heat and humidity. I ran until I couldn’t do it anymore.
And then I got my first sourdough loaf in the oven. I have never made sourdough before, and I am so happy with how this turned out.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.58 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Legs + Abs, 50 minutes
Happy Tuesday! Another hot and humid day, but I was glad to run with J.
I did a lot of running around between the gym, getting A to work and home again, and then Mr PugRunner took him out for a final round of practice driving.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.54 miles, walking
Wednesday was a packed day. I started with a morning walk.
And then I took myself to the mall for the Grand Opening of the new Fit 2 Run store. We have several locations of a local chain, 1st Place Sports, so this is something very new for our area. It was a nice little store, but not necessarily more convenient for me. I wish them well.
Then I met the boys at Courthouse Complex, because someone was finally testing for his license! Thirty minutes later, he was official!
While we were there, we worked on our passport renewal, but we needed a few things we didn’t have, so we postponed that mission and tried to go out to lunch. In the meantime, I got a call that my parents were at the ER for my stepdad, so I let the boys go eat while I went to the hospital. Spoiler alert: he is ok, but they are holding on to him until they determine the cause of his issue.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.19 miles, running + walking
I really didn’t feel like running, so I did what I could.
I got through everything I needed to, including making a pan of sourdough discard brownies (I had the discard set aside and needed to use it). I think they needed to bake just a little longer, but everyone loved them.
After they came out of the oven, I went back to the hospital to bring my mom something to eat and to stay with them while the doctors did their thing. Again, it was a very long day, with plenty of waiting. My mom and I are not patient people, but we did our best.
Friday
- Cardio: 6.32 miles, running + walking
I really wanted some gym time, but a run would have to do instead.
I showed and changed for a meeting with one of my clients, and got that done quickly.
While it was storming every night this week, Friday’s storms rolled in around lunchtime, while we were in the middle of errands. Ugh. We returned to the passport office and got everything set up to renew our documents. And then we went to Millie’s Ice Cream for a Yelp tasting of ice cream nachos. Delicious.
While we were eating, tornadoes were touching down about 10 miles away. Florida is weird like that; you could have gorgeous weather on one side of the street, and a freaking hurricane on the other.
And then back to the hospital so we could all have a visit. It was good to see everyone in better spirits, but I know they just want him home. And we wanted to get home before more twisters came through.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4.64 miles, walking
No sleeping in, today. We had another busy day ahead of us. Of course, we started with a walk.
Then I did some shopping and put together a board for some friends. I wasn’t able to visit the hospital today, but am hoping to go tomorrow.
Thoughts + Goals
So this was a week of trying to go with the flow, and keep up.
We are so proud of A for getting his license, although he hasn’t been able to go out much because I don’t want him out in the weather. Sometimes, it rains so hard you can’t see; it’s unnerving for someone with experience, let alone a new driver.
Sunday is the last day of the month and the last day of the #StreakingWithTheCOOLKIDS challenge, and I stuck with it, bringing my grand streaking total to 202 days! Love that for me!
We are figuring out our 4th of July, and I think we will keep it low key at home. The dogs hate fireworks, anyway, and I’m not the biggest fan either.
Another week done and dusted! On to July!
How was your week in training? Anyone else have just a crazy week? What are you doing for the 4th?

Congrats on the beautiful bread!! So exciting to create yummy things from scratch! And congrats to your son for passing his driver’s test!
I hope your step dad is ok!
Obviously, we don’t get hurricanes here, but we had some powerful storms last week! It’s been a wild ride so far.

I am so happy the bread worked! And A did so great on his test.
He is still in the hospital. They are having a hard time figuring out the type of infection he has. They are both very tired and frustrated.
Stay safe.

Congrats on having another driver in the house! I worried so much about them driving at that age too (and really still do). Your bread looks amazing and I bet the whole house smells so delish when you bake it. It is definitely storm season-be careful!
runswithpugs says
This is my thing. I never worried choking or sticking their fingers in electric sockets, or touching the stove, or falling. But driving has me in knots. He has the car at the pool right now and I’m basically hyperventilating lol.
Coco says
Your bread is gorgeous! Those crackers sound great too. How iIs the “discard” different from the rest? Is it just that you have to use some up before it gets too big?
Sorry to hear about your step-dad and that he’s still hospitalized. That’s so stressful.
runswithpugs says
That’s exactly what it is. Every time you feed the starter, you have to remove some so she doesn’t ooze out of her jar. If you’re not ready to make bread, you can make crackers, muffins, pancakes, waffles, cookies, brownies… so many things. I had zero idea.
He is still there and it’s awful. He has an infection they can’t figure out.
Melissa says
Your bread is beautiful – I’ve never made sour dough and dont know if I would have the patience for it. I do love baking but sourdough brownies and crackers would be more my style. and ice cream nachos sound (and look) delicious! Way to still get out and run, walk and jjust move despite the weather and being busy. Hope everything will be okay with your mom…
runswithpugs says
It actually wasn’t too hard, and I feel like you get into a groove with it. But the crackers were super easy. I have to get some butter and make another batch.
The ice cream nachos were amazing.
Stepdad is still in the hospital. He is ok, other than they can’t figure out his infection. They are very frustrated and want him home.
Susanne says
This sounds like a very intense week with tornado warnings, storms and your step dad in hospital. Hope he’ll be ok soon! Good job keeping up the running and walking in the humid heat.
Your sourdough bread looks fantastic, and congrats to A getting his license!
runswithpugs says
I’m really tired lol. I should make more bread.
Kimberly Hatting says
Oooh, the bread looks yummy I bet it tastes just as good). Congrats to the new independent driver 😉
runswithpugs says
It was so good. I want more. And thank you. He did great.
Liz Dexter says
Hope your stepdad is OK and getting good care and well done to A on that driving licence! I tried to learn when I was in my 20s and hated it, but we have good public transport everywhere I’ve lived since I was a teenager so it’s just about OK. We have our general election on July 4 so hoping for some celebrations on the 5th …
Cari says
Congratulations A!
So sorry to hear about your neighbor and all the good vibes to your stepfather.
If I lived down there I’d be running indoors al summer. I just cannot
Darlene S Cardillo says
Love the bread! And the brownies.
Congrats to your son on his license.
Do you have European plans?
Ice cream nachos?! Yum!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Congrats on the new driver and the very successful sourdough creations! Your bread really rose well! We enjoyed sourdough bread this weekend on our camping trip. I’ve never thought of making anything other than bread. I’ll have to do some recipe searches!
Hope all is well with your stepdad and he is home and happy soon. I know that is scary and frustrating for everyone involved.
Shathiso says
Congratulations A on getting your driver’s license! I’m looking forward to that day so I get some drivers to send on errands! LOL. The sourdough and brownies look AMAZING!
What a beautiful week to end June!
Debbie says
Congrats to A on getting his license! And look at you go with the sourdough!
For Independence Day we will be doing our annual 50-something-mile bike ride through some covered bridges and Gettysburg ride. It’s going to be a hot one so we’ll probably start super early. We’ll be home in plenty of time for our little neighborhood picnic.
Stacie E Seidman says
Congrats to A for getting his license! So exciting!
I hope they get your stepdad fixed up and feeling better asap. Waiting is the worst when you just want to feel well and be home.
