We are two weeks into the school year and things are going well. Obviously, we had a few hiccups and interruptions along the way, but we are rolling with the punches and doing our very best to stay positive. It’s just what we do, right?
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.3 miles, walking
I slept in a little because it’s been a pretty hectic few days, and we were out super late. Things were super hot and steamy, but that’s the price you pay for having fun, right?
In the evening, we went to Top Golf for a marching band fundraiser. These are really the best ways to raise money: getting a fun night out with great people. At the same time, it was a really long weekend, and I was glad to get home.
Monday
- Cardio: 6.04 miles, running + walking
Happy Monday! I was so happy to get in some sunrise miles.
We had a bit of a hectic morning as we dropped off the car at the collision place, and picked up our rental. Fortunately, everything moved very smoothly, and we got the great news that the car is fixable! We will have it back soon!
A also stayed home. All the excitement of Friday night finally caught up with him, and we thought it best that he take some time to recover.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 1.69 miles, walking
Election Day had arrived! This was for our local primary and it was going to be a long day. I had to be at my precinct at 6AM, so I got up super early to get in a little walk, and grab my coffee en route. I also did my civic duty and placed my own votes.
We processed almost 800 voters, and even though everything went very smoothly, it was a long day. The polls closed at 7PM, and I didn’t get home until about 8:30. Once again, I was grateful for a solid team and an uneventful day.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 6.02 miles, running + walking
- Strength: Wall Pilates (abs), 20 minutes
It felt really good to get up and out stretch my legs. I did get a lot of steps at the polls, but it’s more cramped movements and doesn’t feel quite as good.
I got done as much as I could as quickly as I could, because I had to start with new canine clients and wanted to spend some solid time with them. There’s nothing so fun as hanging out with dogs.
Thursday
- Cardio: 5.27 miles, running + walking
Things are feeling almost back to normal. I had a pretty good run, and I dare say it felt a little cooler. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But I’ll take it.
In the evening, we had dinner with some friends, even though we had to drive through a wretched rainstorm to get there. I’m tried of this summer weather.
Friday
- Cardio: 7.81 miles, running + walking
I managed a nice workout this morning, and finally felt like I had time to do so. That made me happy.
There were errands to run and work to do, and I got it all done, which made me even happier.
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.83 miles, walking
Scheduling conflicts meant that I had to be up way before the sun to squeeze everything in. It’s ok. I love sunrises.
We then went to celebrate J’s birthday, with a super cool “Corks & Forks” Tour. I love experiences and this was phenomenal.
After all the festivities, I was very much looking forward to a good night’s sleep.
Thoughts + Goals
Once again, it’s a low goal week. I feel like I’m in survival mode, just trying to make all the pieces fit together. It happens, and it will pass. I just have to stay ahead of it and breathe through it.
This week we will hit up on Labor Day: not a huge deal, but we definitely have some fun planned.

You do a lot of fun things in addition to fitness.
I do need to get up earlier. It’s less tempting as our temps cool down.
runswithpugs says
I almost missed the alarm today! I’m dog sitting and it was a long night. Whoops!
Jenny says
Thanks for working the polls on Tuesday! That is a loooong day.
This time of year is hard because we’re trying to do all the fall-ish things (like back to school and football games) but it’s still SO hot. Down here, there’s no hope of it cooling down until the end of October- maybe you’ll gt some relief earlier though. Anyway, you got out there every single day in spite of the heat and the busyness. Great job!
runswithpugs says
Oh, yes, it most certainly is!
I have already started decorating for fall and Halloween. I am ready and I’m not going to short myself on my favorite holiday!
Coco says
That is great news on the car. These days it seems like even minor damage can lead to them totaling it.
Hopefully you will be used to the new school year routine soon!
runswithpugs says
I was on the fence on if I wanted it totaled or not. K was hoping they wouldn’t because we had such a low interest rate when we bought it. Fair. At the end of the day, we get it back today or tomorrow!

Sounds like a nice week! We are almost back to our routine here with school starting last week. I am not a fan of the early mornings, but thus is back to school life!
runswithpugs says
I wish our high school started earlier. First bell is at 9:20 and they don’t get out until 3:50! Yuck! I miss middle school. Sure, they had to be in their seats by 7:30 but they would be home by 2!
Deborah Brooks says
You logged a lot of miles this week! Happy birthday to your husband. He looks good! Have a great week ahead
runswithpugs says
I tried! Not his birthday (he’s our New Year’s baby), but my J’s birthday!
Kimberly Hatting says
I love my sunrises as well, but with my early commute schedule they’re getting rare (except for the weekends). At least with the fall season inching closer, we have college football (and subsequent tailgating!) to look forward to.
runswithpugs says
You know i’m all about a tailgate! Our first one is Saturday!
Jessie Benson says
Kudos to you for working the polls!! That is quite the long day, glad all went well.
Sounds like a nice week with a solid mix of fun and fitness!
runswithpugs says
Such a long day. It’s worth it, but it is hard.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
That is a long day at the polls, but good for you for doing it! It’s an important job. Hmmm, a Top Golf night or selling candy or plants? Yep, Top Golf for sure!!
What do you do with your canine clients?
runswithpugs says
It depends. I’m housesitting with these guys, so it’s time out in the yard, time cuddling on the couch, managing their playtime, that sort of thing. I adore them!
