Once again, we are all surprised that we are in the final month of 2024. What a time to be alive. But we press onward, and I’m hoping we can have a great rest of year. Let’s talk about how the last week of November went down and what comes next.
Sunday
- Cardio: 4.39 miles, walking
We are going places. I had a nice walk on a decidedly crisp morning.
And then I got the lights on the tree! Christmas is a go! This is literally the first time I’ve ever put up my tree before Thanksgiving, and I’m not sorry about it in the least.
Monday
- Cardio: 3.9 miles, running + .69 miles, walking
I slept in a little longer than I wanted, which meant I was rushing around. However, the run was gorgeous, and I soaked in all that sun.
Another first time thing? Local schools are closed for the whole Thanksgiving week instead of just Wednesday through Friday. As a result, I recruited A to help me at my parents’ house – they needed assistance getting their holiday decor totes out, and we were happy to spend some time with them.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.42 miles, running
- Strength: Arms + Abs, 50 minutes
The holiday is looming, which means we need to get it done! But first, a run, and a gym session!
I had to pick up some candles and our race packets for the Turkey Trot, so I dug in and tried to make an efficient loop of errands. This included stopping to pick up nonperishable items to donate to the food bank when I got the bibs. I love that our local race does this. Then it was back home to take a breather before Wednesday’s prep day.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 3.51 miles, walking
I hadn’t slept well the night before, so I took the morning in stride. Literally. We went from working on those miles, to working on cooking.
I made mashed potatoes, apple pie, stuffing, and saved Tini’s Viral mac & cheese for A when he got home. He and his girlfriend had a planned zip lining day, so Mr PugRunner took them to do that while I finished up and then went to pick up some pies at Crumbl. We were making apple and pumpkin, but getting French Silk and key lime for the kids to try.
And last, but not least, I set up my race kit for the Turkey Trot. Out of nowhere, the cooler temps were giving way to humid warmth, and I was not about any of it.
We had sushi for dinner and I crashed.
Thursday
- Cardio: Community First Thanksgiving Distance Classic 5K
Happy Thanksgiving! We left the house at 5:30 for an early morning Turkey Trot! I will share all about it on Wednesday, but I was very pleased, especially considering the delayed start, the weather, and my tummy troubles.
Don’t forget: friends don’t let friends trot alone! Thank you to Kim for putting together this amazing collage of all our running bloggers out for their Thanksgiving miles, all over the world!
We wrapped up and headed home to get that bird on the egg! All in all, it was an awesome Thanksgiving. We hosted and everyone had fun!
The food was perfect, too!
Of course, I was thrilled to call it a night and get some sleep!
Friday
- Cardio: 6.78 miles, running + walking
Black Friday? Meh. I got up, like always, went for some miles, and then walked the pugs.
Rather than shopping, we had a movie day with pajamas and Irish Spice Bag. I could not wait! Was it pretty? No! Was it delicious! Absolutely! We air fried french fries, and added them to a paper bag with sautéed peppers and onions and sweet & sour chicken from our local Chinese restaurant (sauce on the side). This got tossed with a spice blend of pepper, salt, paprika, cayenne, garlic power, onion powder, and chili powder. Then we poured it out and added curry sauce and sweet and sour sauce, and holy moly. Just do this.
Saturday
- Cardio: 4 miles, walking
I opted to sleep in and I am so happy I did. Of course, what I did wake up to was a broken thermostat! Fortunately, we have a friend well versed in HVAC who figured out it was just a blown fuse in the box. Whew. I walked the dogs and then myself (it was in the 30s and low 40s).
And then it was time to go out with friends on a Nights of Lights cruise! Seeing the holiday lights from the water is honestly just so next level and we were so excited for it, even if it was freezing cold!
Thoughts + Goals
It was a great week, and I’m thrilled about that. Things are going to get super busy super fast now, and that’s fine. I love this time of year and I’m all about the fun and the lights and the festive cheer!
Race on Saturday, which I may walk. It’s cross-country, and my last trail adventure led to some ankle soreness. I want no part of that nonsense.
Half marathon training continues, and I’m glad to have cooler temperatures to deal with it.

Your Thanksgiving feast looks delish! Key Lime pie is one of my favorites, but I made apple cranberry to take to my sister’s house.
Good luck at your race!

My mom made pumpkin and I made apple, but the kids were all about Crumbl, and A loves him some key lime! I’m just glad I didn’t have to make that one!
Next week will be fun for sure!

What a fun but busy week! You must be exhausted after hosting – but everything looks delicious! Nice job staying active even with everything going on.

I was out as soon as my head hit the pillow!

My friends live in Flagler beach and saw those lights.
Your dinner looks yummy.
The weather didn’t cooperate so I skipped my turkey trot.
No time to decorate with funerals vacations work travel. Ugh.

I’m sorry things have been so tough lately. I hope it gets easier.

Those are the best kinds, for sure.

What a fun week!!! Your Thanksgiving looks beautiful and so does your tree! We also got ours up before Thanksgiving for the first time ever. i mean- if Thanksgiving is going to be this late, what else are we supposed to do???
Congrats on the race- i’m looking forward to the recap. And- I’m jealous. You’re having much cooler temps than we are! It’s supposed to cool down for us this week- last week was pretty hot.

It’s freezing here right now! In the 30s when I went out this morning! And I am loving it!
Debbie says
Your pictures from Thanksgiving are fantastic! Everything looks so delicious and festive.
How was zip-lining for A and his girlfriend? I’ve never tried it, but want to!
runswithpugs says
Thank you!
They loved it. They went to the Alligator Farm, a wonderful zoological park nearby. There are two “adventure ropes” courses – a long one and short one. They did the shorter one, which takes just under an hour (I’ve done it before and it’s so cool but really challenging). One of the longer zips goes over the main alligator habitat, which is terrifying and awesome all at once. They want to do the longer course next time, but it was a great starter for them.

Since Thanksgiving was so late I wasn’t too against turning on my xmas lights outside and decorating. We finally have all LED lights outside so I can leave them on all night, and enjoy them when I wake up for that early morning run! I wish all neighbors left their lights on for me to enjoy 🙂
That cooler weather must be a really nice break for your half marathon training!
runswithpugs says
Some of the neighbors leave their inflatables on! Our downtown leaves their lights on, too, so if I can get brave enough I’ll head down there to run along the bayfront.

I love the turkey trot pictures, seeing the familiar faces. I’m so behind with blog reading I’m doing everyone’s running posts first so I check in with you all.

Sounds like a nice week! It’s great your son had the entire week off from school…I’m totally jealous!

It’s the first time our district has done it. Honestly, I didn’t know what to do with the time LOL!
