Happy New Year and welcome to 2025! I’m really not sure how the year is going to go, but here we are, so let’s make the most of it.
Sunday
- Cardio: 3.70 miles, walking
We were obviously exhausted after our long day at the Pop Tarts Bowl, so I slept in and went for a walk when I woke up.
Was it a productive day? Nope. We were all content to just hang out at home and chill out. I ended up having a terrible allergic reaction to something in the air. We had a wild weather shift with tornado watches, and I must have sneezed over 200 times in three hours. Add to that itchy, watery eyes, and I was more than happy to take some Benadryl and go to bed.
Monday
- Cardio: 7.62 miles, running, beach + bridge
This week is a little hectic, so I decided I wanted to get to the beach to see sunrise and do some miles on the bridge. Unfortunately, we were slapped with some nasty fog, so there was no sunrise to see. I spent some time on the packed sand, and then did 4 1/2 times over Vilano Bridge.
Also of note, Leonidas celebrated his third birthday.
Tuesday
- Cardio: 6.10 miles, running (speed work)
Happy New Year’s Eve! I went out in a nasty drizzle for some speed work, followed by some easy miles. I’m making a huge effort to mix up the length and intensity of my runs.
Somehow, I scored a much-needed hair appointment on New Year’s Eve! I wasn’t complaining, even if my plans included comfy clothes on the couch.
We had a nice evening at home with A and his girlfriend. They made empanadas and we added in some dips. It was honestly a quiet and perfect night.
Wednesday
- Cardio: 4.66 miles, walking
Happy New Year’s! And Happy Birthday to Mr. PugRunner! He slept in and I started out with some miles.
We did presents and then went to breakfast, which turned more into lunch.
And then we chilled out at home until we met my parents for dinner. He wanted a quiet day, and I think he got exactly that.
Thursday
- Cardio: 6.59 miles, running
My week is getting busier as the holiday comes to an end. Of curse, we started with a chilly run.
And then I had some dog sitting to do!
We visited my parents because they wanted to show off their tree and decorations before it all comes down, and that was fun, too. It ended up being a longer afternoon than expected, but we learned some fun card games and enjoyed our time.
Friday
- Cardio: 3.78 miles, running + 2.71 miles, walking
It was absolutely freezing when I woke up (someone forgot to put the heat on overnight), and I spent way too long lounging in bed. Sigh. I finally dragged myself out, and managed some running.
More dog sitting, and then I had a bunch of cleaning to do because Meghan was coming for the weekend! Yay!
Saturday
- Cardio: 3.58 miles, walking
It was Meghan Day! Twice in a week is pretty awesome. Of course, I had to get in some miles before she came, and then we dug in to the fun.
We took her to St. Augustine for Nights of Lights, and got to try some new experiences. Things are always a little quieter once the new year passes, and I was super grateful for that.
Thoughts + Goals
I feel pretty motivated right now and am excited about things to come. I ran the numbers on last year and I’m not mad about any of it! I’m also excited that my new shoes are coming soon! Mr PugRunner ordered me a pair for Christmas, but they were the wrong color and we had to exchange them.
I’ve also started doing more with speed work and hills in my training. The truth is that I sometimes neglect these things, but it’s time to begin anew. And of course, the gym will figure back into things next week. Sometimes, milestones like celebrating the new year, help with a big reset.
Another fun thing is that I’m back on the Yelp Elite Squad for the 5th year! This time, I get a “gold” badge on my profile! I love it! Want to connect? You can find me here.

Sounds like a really nice week! We also had a quiet night in on NYE. Glad Mr. Pugrunner had a relaxing birthday!
I’ve also been adding in some speedwork to my training and like you, I HAVE to get back to the gym! I got a little off track during the holidays, but there are no more excuses.
Happy New Year!

Tomorrow is the day! Let’s do this!

I’m a fan of a quiet NYE, so your evening sounds good to me. Happy birthday to the hubs!
You had an impressive amount of miles last year, between running and walking! It will be fun to see what that speedwork does for you!
runswithpugs says
It may not do anything, but not doing speedwork will definitely do nothing, so we shall just have to see!

Great job this week. It was busy for you! You stacked up a lot of miles last year. I will slowly be adding some speedwork into my running too soon. I’m very cautious about it after last year’s injury! I need to be more consistent with weight training.

It’s nerve-racking to put pressure on an injury – I still have nerves about mine and it’s been years! We’ve got this!

What a fun week you had, Jenn! Happy belated birthday to your hubby, and yay for some more time with your friend Meghan.
