March is the time to start the transition from winter to spring running. Even in Florida, we do have a slight shift in our seasons, so I’m sharing the five ways I get ready for this time of year.

Adjust Your Run Times
With the time change and impending temperature changes, adjusting your run time might be in order. Personally, I like to go out earlier to take advantage of the cooler temps that come with pre-sunrise darkness. Maybe you prefer to move from morning to evening to take advantage of the later sunset.

Check On Your Running Shoes
A change of seasons is always a great time to invest in a new pair of running shoes. As discussed, your shoes are designed to last about 400 miles, so it’s always a good idea to periodically check their status. Spring is a great time to treat yourself to a fresh pair!

Swap Out Your Wardrobe
While I don’t personally have a lot of “real” cold weather gear, I’m washing my gloves, ear warmers, and heavier long sleeve shirts, and moving them to the back of my drawers and closet until next year. They did great this season and I’ll see them again next winter.

Kiss The Treadmill Goodbye!
Unless you prefer indoor running, you can put the treadmill on ice until next year. Spring can bring some of the most beautiful weather, and it’s the perfect time to get back outside!

Schedule Some Spring Races
Spring is a great time of year for races, so make sure to get some on your calendar. It’s the perfect weather for 10Ks and half marathons, especially, and it will be a great motivation booster to get you through the heat of summer!
