So that’s it. The first half of 2025 is coming to an end. And what a year it’s been.

For this month’s trip to the runfessional, let’s join up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice…
Let’s Start By Runfessing…
That I got myself back to the gym! Whoo hoo! It didn’t happen until the last week of June, and I am PAYING for the time away, but I already feel stronger. In this week, I’ve devoted time to both upper and lower body, core, and I’m wrapping every session up with 15-20 minutes on the stair stepper. I’m starting with lighter weights until I get back in my groove, but other than that, it’s a solid plan and I plan to keep it going.

Next, I’ll Runfess…
That I’m still dragging my feet on tomorrow night’s race. I want to be out there so badly, but as I mentioned in my post on Monday, it’s an evening race before sunset, with no shade, record high temps, and now the forecast calls for thunderstorms. I am falling so far behind on my race goals, but I also don’t want to have a terrible time.

My Next Runfession Is…
I feel miserable and have done for a few weeks. My allergies are out of control, and not much is helping. Part of it is the season with plants blooming and part of it is the storms that sweep in daily, stirring up mold and pollen, and bringing the dreaded low pressure. It will pass, it always does, but every year feels more intense.

I Runfess…
That I’m disappointed in myself for slowing down and losing some of my pace. A lot has happened this year, and it’s impossible for anyone to always operate at their highest levels, but I hate the feeling of working so hard and having to start all over. I guess it gives me something to work towards.

Finally, I Would Runfess…
That this summer is simultaneously dragging and flying. Things are getting better, but we are still under quite a bit of pressured it makes it hard to enjoy some of the little things. We also have to work around all three of our schedules, meaning we have to get creative with our celebrations and quality time. As always, this, too, shall pass, and we’re going to come through stronger on the other side, but I wish we could see that other side before summer ends.

Yay on getting back to the gym. Easing back with lighter weights is a great idea and something I’ve been doing this week too.
I signed up for an evening race once but never went — I can’t remember if I just DNSd it or if it was canceled due to heat/storms.
Ugh on the summer allergies!
There’s one popular evening race that has been delayed and postponed so many times because of storms. In fact, one year, there were tornadoes during it! I figure in the morning, we have a better chance of clear weather.
First of all- great job getting back to the gym. I know how much it hurts when you haven’t been doing it for a while! As a matter of fact that’s often my motivation to do a strength workout- “If i don’t do it now, I”ll regret it when I have to get back into it.”
Sorry you’re feeling so crappy. That might be the crowning blow for your race tomorrow- in addition to the heat and storms. It just sounds like it wouldn’t be fun. But I’ll be interested to hear what you decide!
It ended up being tonight and a huge lightning storm cropped up right when I would have been thinking about leaving. Nope. Back to the couch for me.
Nice job getting back to the gym. It will feel good to be back in your routine. Evening races are tough even tougher in the summer. I made that mistake once 🙂
LOL! I didn’t do it. And there was a huge lightning storm and I’m glad I stayed home in my cozies!
Congrats on getting back to the gym!
I havre an evening race on July 18th, which I”ve done several times. It’s a fun event, but the evening time slot, and July heat, are always tough factors. For me, I like that kind of challenge because it feels SO good to conquer the finish line. But, I know not everyone embraces the heat like I do, LOL.
If this was any other time of year, I would be all on board. But to be honest, we had a really terrible lightning storm (I messed up the date and it was tonight, not tomorrow), and I didn’t want to drive in that or be waiting outside in that either.
It’s great that you got back to the gym. Your future body will thank you! I’m so sorry to hear that your allergies are bothering you so much. How long will they last, all summer? Hope you can get some relief soon.
Historically, it’s about two to three weeks. And just at night. The sun starts to set and the sneezing begins. It’s really ridiculous.
Yay on getting back to the gym! Good for you – you’ll be back to full strength in no time.
I would skip the race or go and walk run just for fun – I’m sure a lot of other people will do the same.
Try not to beat yourself up on your pace/fitness and remember to be proud of you for getting out there. This is tough for me, but I’m always grateful to be a part of the community.
I ended up skipping out but it’s ok.
And I”m trying but it’s frustrating sometimes. I’ll get over it and be in a better frame of mind when things cool down.
Good for you for getting back in the gym. Getting started (or restarted) is the hardest part. Try not to beat yourself up over pace. The heat has been brutal this summer and I con only imagine what that feels like in FL. I’m really trying to slow down, be present and not let summer race away. Easier said than done sometimes.
I know. It’s just been part of this stupid spiral I’m in. I will feel more encouraged in the next couple of months, but it’s just one more crappy thing going on.
