Recently, my friend told me that she was having a really tough time finding a cake for her son’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle party, and I asked her if she wanted me to help her make something. I was thrilled to get the go-ahead.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favorite cartoons back in the day. (Yes. I’m that old. I also loved 1980s He-Man and She-Ra.) The opportunity to create the Heroes in a Halfshell out of fondant and buttercream was exciting, and I had a blast putting it all together.
The cake depicted Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, peeking out of a manhole, with the city skyline all around.
Vanilla and chocolate cupcakes featured the turtle’s faces, and also the radioactive ooze and pieces of fondant pizza, the heroes’ favorite treat.
The birthday boy loved it. And we loved sharing his special celebration with him!
