couch 2 5k: week 9, day 2 {5.6.2013}

One. More. Session.

Eeek!

It’s probably been a little longer than nine weeks, technically, but in the next day or two, I am going to be an honest to goodness graduate of Couch 2 5K. I am not exactly running a complete 3.1 miles, but I’m thisclose, and I do remember hearing that even if you’re a little off, the adrenaline kicks in and gives you that boost to get over the finish line.

Additionally, I’m segueing straight into the 10K training program, so I’m pretty sure that will get me over the 3.1 mile mark pretty quickly, and definitely in time for my Memorial Day run.

I was dreading this particular run. Dread.Ing. For one thing, I had been absolutely consumed by preparations for little man’s birthday party, so my last run was Wednesday morning, four days prior. After that, the rainy weather kicked in and I wasn’t even able to get in a walk. My girlfriends and I tried to head out and were scattered by a terrifying lightning storm, and it was downhill from there. I also managed to crack my right heel, so pressure on that area is just a little painful.

This time, I mixed it up and changed my route drastically. For some reason, I didn’t want the straightaways of my normal main road run, so I decided to stick to my neighborhood. I just started making my way through the different subdivisions, and figured that my app would tell me when I was finished.

It worked out perfectly, and having some new scenery helped keep my mind off the actual running. My heel didn’t give me too much trouble after I warmed up and I was thrilled that I overcame my dread to knock it out.

So great was my motivation that I headed out for a 5.7 mile walk with my girlfriends later that night. My thighs were screaming this morning, but it was worth it. It feels amazing to be back in the game.

I have another long walk scheduled for tonight and I’m hoping to hit my last C25K training session tomorrow morning. We’ll see how it goes!
