weekly recap

August 24, 2013      2 Comments

Happy Saturday!

It was a good week. Not the best, and not the worst. Let’s give it a look.

  • Sunday: rest
  • Monday: 5-10K Week 9 Day 1 – 2.50 miles
  • Tuesday: speed walk with the girls – 4.28 miles (When I came home, I started experiencing nasty pain in the arch of my foot. I was absolutely freaked out and immediately started rolling my foot over a frozen water bottle. Is it crazy that we have one on standby in the freezer? It felt fine on Wednesday morning but I decided to take a couple of days, just in case).
  • Wednesday: rest, light stretching
  • Thursday: rest, light stretching
  • Friday: 5-10K Week 9 Day 2 – 2.74 miles
  • Saturday: rest

The bad news:

  • I didn’t have any yoga this week. I missed it, but I didn’t have a lot of time this week, and when I did on Wednesday and Thursday, I was afraid of hyperextending my arch in one of the downward dog positions and injuring myself for real.
  • I didn’t start bootcamp.  I had every intention of doing so but with Kindergarten starting on Thursday, trying to get everything done in preparation for that and then hurting my arch, it just didn’t seem to be a good time. I have decided that I am giving it one more week, just to make sure that I have our car pooling and getting out the door routine down and then I’m going in for the pain.

The good news:

  • I am way on track to meet (and beat) my 50 mile goal for August. Who would have guessed? I’m really proud that I am exceeding that goal by a lot. Of course, this means I will have to set the bar higher for next month.
  • It  was awesome starting to walk with my girlfriends again. Combining exercise with conversation is so fun. When we run together, we can’t really talk (mostly because even though we cover the same areas, they are training for a marathon and hitting longer distances than me, but also because I need every ounce of lung capacity for breathing), so it’s nice to go at a slower pace and get to chit chat. I really value this time.

Where do I go from here:

  • Bring yoga back on my off days
  • Run four days instead of just two.
  • Graduate from the 5-10K program and move on to hitting my goal of 10 miles, in plenty of time for Tower of Terror.

How did your workouts and training go this week?

How are you going to challenge yourself next week?

I did a trail run this weekend. Not my fastest, but it was tough going, at least I know for next time what to expect and will improve my time based on that.

Next week my training is going to be a bit off track, as I have a lot of work to do with the parent club at the school and that’s going to eat up my time unfortunately so I’ll only be able to get in 3 running days. I’ll just do what I can. It’s not like I’m training for anything at the moment.

Let’s talk about balance. Balance is an area wh Let’s talk about balance.

Balance is an area where I sometimes struggle, physically and emotionally. It can be a challenge to fit in all the things I want and all the things I need. I don’t always love doing the mundane or tedious tasks that ultimately lead to the foundations of the things I am more passionate about.

I am taking a little more time to build on the basics, and find my balance. It’s going to lead to a healthier and happier me.

How do you find your balance? Do you struggle with the basics?

Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run Sometimes, the weather is too beautiful not to run.

I worked through some cardio under the blue skies and in the fresh air and then came home to @runsmartofficial’s base building boot camp.

There was A LOT of focus on balance and feet and ankles, as well as ground work in the form of different planks and push-ups.

The movements were small but effective and my legs are certainly burning! It’s going to get harder as we go, but I’m excited to spend more time on my stability and form, to see if it makes me stronger and more efficient over time.

What was on your workout calendar today?

This morning, I started on a new training plan wit This morning, I started on a new training plan with @runsmartofficial. I have a goal race in May, so I am going to see if I can make some improvements along the way.

I can admit that I am built more for distance than speed, but I am taking a crack and improving my pace over the next ten weeks. Keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻!

Anyone else starting a new training plan and cycle?

Congratulations to the @staugalligatorfarm for another fantastic event. It was a beautiful morning, with lots of enthusiastic runners and walkers, and we were so happy to be there.

A portion of proceeds went to benefit Orianne Center for Indigo Snake Conservation (OCIC) and AZA Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE), partnering to celebrate Eastern indigo snakes, which makes the race even more important.

Come take a peek at how the morning went and head over to the blog to read more about it! (Link in bio) https://runswithpugs.com/2023/03/15/race-report-raptor-run-3k/
